And while it is true that many of them did earn what they have through their hard work, they did not face the same adversity that affects other communities of color. I often hear people say imagine a 100 meter dash and some get to start at the 85 yard line while others start at 0. I think a better way to look at white privilege is imagine that same dash where everyone starts at 0 but some have weights around their ankles making them appear slower and unable to get as far without exerting more energy than the ones with privilege. It's not to say you get a benefit if youre white, but you don't have as many forces pulling you back as others do.
