It is extremely unethical to sell a product knowing it is potentially dangerous. Companies need to be held liable for endangering its customers. They should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law when selling knowingly harmful goods. The FDA recalls hundreds of millions of food units every quarter. This was resources wasted that could have been used to produce more safe food.
