Do you think banning 'assault weapons' would make public places feel safer, or does it infringe on people's rights too much?

I think in a way the public would be safer but you wouldn't have anything else to use for self defense if being attacked. So I think if the person has a history of using the weapon wrong they should not be allowed it.
