Proposition 58 allows school districts to establish dual-language immersion programs for both native and non-native English speakers. It also allows parents of students to select an available language acquisition program that best suits their child. Proponents argue that it will encourage public schools to teach students more than one language. Opponents argue that it will cause more students to graduate from public schools with poor English.
