A term limit is a law that limits the amount of time a political representative may hold an elected office. In the U.S. the office of the President is restricted to two four year terms. There are currently no term limits for Congressional terms but various states and cities have enacted term limits for their elected officials at the local level.

YES... with a 12-year max per chamber with a mandatory cooling off period before running for the other.
@9Y5J4F5Republican11mos11MO
No, tenure is valuable, but election cycles should happen frequently so that voters have more control over who is in office
@9X7CSCRLibertarian11mos11MO
Federal office holders should participate in Social Security and Medicare after 65, rather than making decisions about programs they have no relation to.
@KindredburkeLibertarian 12mos12MO
No, but their salary and retirement benefits should be equal to the median salary and retirement benefits of their state.
Yes, add term limits to the House of Representatives and have the Senate once again be appointed by the State legislatures.
@9S7P3V4Libertarian1yr1Y
Yes, but that's FAR from all. For ALL positions in the three branches, there should ALSO be an age cap, strict rules against lobbying, a decrease in their salaries, AND a rule stating that if they are involved in voting and they're absent for 3 or more voting days they should be dismissed (some of them in Oregon deliberately called in sick multiple times so that there wouldn't be enough people present to vote on specific issues when they knew they'd lose).
@WoodcraftLibertarian 1yr1Y
For the House of Representatives; No, and end Gerrymandering. For the US Senate; No and repeal the 17th Amendment.

@92C5G79Republican3yrs3Y
Term limits are irrelevant when machine politicians are controlled by lobbyists regardless of which influenced individual is elected.
@92BWFPTLibertarian3yrs3Y

@92BCX2PLibertarian3yrs3Y

@8T8GGS6Libertarian4yrs4Y
Yes, if not then there should be a certain age where you can't be a representative or a senator due to the norms changing and we need people who aren't as old as they are currently, maybe making the highest age be 70 or even 65.
@8SVC468Republican4yrs4Y
Yes, five two year terms (10 years total) and three six year terms (18 years total) that way it will increase performance and prevent corruption.

No, but we do need age limits on federal elected offices
@8SKXY2MLibertarian4yrs4Y
Yes, set the number of terms for elected positions in the House and Senate and term (years of service) limits for all Heads of Bureaus.
@8S4Y4CMLibertarian4yrs4Y
I think term limits are an opportunity to stop certain sections of corruption in American politics
@8RM3S5CRepublican5yrs5Y
Yes, and once they have done their 8 years as president, vice president, senator, mayor, governor, or representative they should NOT be allowed to run anymore.
@8RJS6QRRepublican5yrs5Y
Yes, but sured serve in both house and the senate and should later resign at the end of there term.

@8QYL3DZRepublican5yrs5Y
It should be 10 terms in the house and 5 in the senate. States can decide for state legislatures though.

@maxfern414Republican5yrs5Y
Yes, politicians should be limited to serving for a single term
@8PR72VDRepublican5yrs5Y
Yes, but every four years there should be a election for all of that.
@8P8VQSJRepublican5yrs5Y
Yes, term limits on both the House and Senate.
@8P26X7CRepublican5yrs5Y
No, and, if anything, the term should be increased to 3 years rather than 2. Senators and Representatives end up having to spend half of their term campaigning rather than legislating. Allowing Congress to have two years for work and one for campaigning will allow for a more effective Congress. Semi-related, the 17th Amendment should be repealed and the election of Senators should return to the legislatures and governors of the states. These United States are a federation of states, not a singular, unitary entity. The purpose of the Senate is to represent the interests of the many states before the Federal Government just as ambassadors represent the interests of a country in the United Nations. The House of Representatives is designed to represent the private individual. The Senate was designed to represent the state government.
@8NZSFFBLibertarian5yrs5Y
Regardless, government should be stripped of all its coercitive capabilities and shift into a fully voluntary-based institutionl which can be replicated by anyone else. If an institution wishes to allow its members to be constantly re-elected, then so may it be it, considering it will not be directly damaging to those that disagree with this policy, giving that they can leave at any time;
@8NRNZ6VRepublican5yrs5Y
Yes term limits and productivity no productivity no pay
@maxfern414Republican5yrs5Y
Yes, term lengths should be extended and politicians should be prohibited from running for reelection

Yes, and significantly reduce their retirement benefits.
@8KKZJ4XRepublican5yrs5Y
No, But decrease salary to that of the average American worker and reduce their retirement benefits
@8HF5VT8Republican5yrs5Y
Yes, we should have a mandated age of retirement in elected offices of 75 years old and decrease pay and benefits. Our representatives and leaders are supposed to be a representation of what average Americans think, feel, and believe. There should be a bigger push to dissuade Senators and Representatives from lobbying and becoming millionaires from holding an elected position. They are supposed to be American public servants.
@8H28JKVRepublican5yrs5Y
No, but take away retirement and healthcare benefits.
@8FYMWNWRepublican5yrs5Y

@98V338SLibertarian3yrs3Y

@98SKPMLRepublican3yrs3Y

@8PTKH7WRepublican5yrs5Y
No, but we should limit the amount of consecutive terms a person can serve
No, we already have term limits called "elections", but after leaving Congress, their salary stops and retirement benefits can be continued if an individual pays for it on their own. Also, the ability to recall national elected officials needs to be made. Not just state & local governments.
@8R2RMP3Libertarian5yrs5Y
Yes, in the form of a limit on consecutive terms.
