The U.S. nationality law requires applicants to have a working knowledge of the English language in order achieve citizenship. In 1990 the government passed exceptions to this requirement for older applicants and those with mental or physical disabilities.

I'm in the middle of both because they should learn English to communicate with others in our country, but also they can still speak their own language as well.
I think it should be encouraged, but not required, and resources offered for free to learn if they choose so.
No, however, there needs to be multiple federal or state funded centers in every state for immigrants who wish to learn the language.
No, but we should allow more free language learning courses for those who want to learn and offer more accessible facilities/sources for those who do not speak English.
I think that they should learn a little bit of English.
All immigrants should have the opportunity to go back to school to learn English and other essential aspects of living in the US
No, but provide free language learning courses for those that wish to
No, but provide free english lessons (optional)
No, but the government should provide free language learning courses to help those who find it a necessity to learn English in their life, which may not apply to every immigrant. If they choose to live somewhere in America where knowing English isn't absolutely necessary, making it mandatory may be more of an inconvenience.
Yes, but provide that class as part of becoming a US Citizen
No, not required however the government should fund language learning services
No, but provide a translator or at least suggest that they learn English, as it is our most common language
I think it benefits everyone to understand and be able to communicate in the country's main language. There should be at least a minimum requirement that immigrants learn basic english.
yes a little bit like the basics
Yes, but also provide a broader range of languages in schools.
Yes, I think everybody should start learning new languages.
No, It shouldn't be a requirement but they can provide free optional classes for learning English.
Depends if they want to learn it, its good to know another language but if they don't want to they dont have to
Yes, If we have learn their language to when we go to enter their country, then why shouldn't they?
Yes, But we should embrace the diversity that immigrants add to out country
No, they could decide whether to learn english or not.
It should be recommended, but not forced as it should ultimately be their own personal choice, but language learning courses should be free and easily accessible.
I believe that we as Americans, should not have a problem with the language barrier. Diversity is a huge part of USA . I also believe that we have all the more opportunities to become multilingual.
Yes because they need to understand things. No because they deserve to keep their native language.
I think that they should learn the basics of English to get by but embrace their culture at the same time. I also feel there should be translators for those who don't understand English.
Again too many laws. We should all be speaking Indian languages or spanish for the Mexicans that were here before us
Only if they absolutely have to. Otherwise they shouldn't be forced to.

Yes they should be able to speak english and America should make their national language english plain and simple (although i believe the government should provide free language learning courses for immigrants that come in legally)
No, but free language learning courses should be an option
They shouldn't be required to learn English, but they should be offered a course to better their English
no but i feel that it does give an advantage for them job wise.
I think they shouldn't be forced to know all English but they should know enough so they get get bye, and have students learn at least one or two other languages.
yes besides spanish, we should integrate spanish the way canada does with french
Yes and no if they want to learn english it would be easier for the person who speak a differnt language but they don't have to if they don't what too.
The government should provide and encourage free language learning courses, but not make them mandatory. The diversity others add to our country is important
If anyone wants to, they can, it should be a choice.
yes for benefits in understanding what people are saying, that doesn't mean they SHOULD talk in english, only when its necessary.
No because it goes against the constitution.
No, but immigrants should be highly encouraged to take English courses
No, but the government should provide free language learning courses to the ones who want to.
