Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy says that as president, he would deport American-born children of undocumented immigrants.
"The family unit will be deported," said Ramaswamy when asked by NBC News if the deportations would include American-born children, after a packed town hall here Friday.
These children, however, are U.S. citizens, regardless of their parents' immigration status. The 14th Amendment states that “all persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside.”
When asked again if these children would be deported along with their families, Ramaswamy doubled down.

The 14th amendment could not be any clearer. Children born of foreigners are not US citizens. "and subject to the jurisdiction thereof" is crucial. Foreigners are subject to their home countries full jurisdiction, not ours. The author, Senator Howard, even said foreigners are excluded.

Regardless, deportation will wreck that entire families future, and should be the absolute last resort for criminals. Citizenship means so much to immigrants, don’t yank that out of their hands because they’re desperate. Put them through the process, but decrease the incentives for illegal immigration. Desperation is understandable, but encouraging it isn’t.

maybe this is a dumb question, but I've heard Americans born abroad still consider themselves to be Americans because both parents are American, but is that really true since they weren't born on u.s. soil? That's a question that's always made me go hmmm!
