One of the nation’s most prominent business groups on Friday blamed President Joe Biden directly for United Auto Workers’ decision to strike late Thursday night, as lawmakers and other groups rushed to stake out positions just hours after the strike was announced.
“The UAW strike and indeed the ‘summer of strikes’ is the natural result of the Biden administration’s ‘whole of government’ approach to promoting unionization at all costs,” Suzanne P. Clark, President and CEO of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce said Friday in a statement.
Meanwhile, Michigan Democrats in Congress including Sen. Gary Peters and Reps. Debbie Dingell and Elissa Slotkin said they plan to join picket lines as a show of force, underscoring the strike’s political significance, which encompasses not only the demands of an iconic American union, but also Biden’s push for electric vehicle manufacturing.
“UAW members made huge sacrifices to help save the auto industry in 2008 and now that the Big Three are making historic profits, the workers deserve to get their fair share of the success,” Peters said minutes after the strike was announced.
Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) has also said he plans to rally with union President Shawn Fain in Detroit on Friday.
The UAW is demanding a 40% wage increase.
SO much for Wage Equality.

I wish the UAW would do this sort of flexing outside of the big 3. All the little plants that feed the auto industry REALLY pay **** . Little is done for them yet I'd wager the contribute the same dues as those at big 3. But yeah, hammer at those who bring press coverage. Uh huh.
@P4rtisanFrog8mos8MO
They are going to bankrupt the industry for a second time?
@JusticeSadieSocialist8mos8MO
Wages started declining the year that corporate stock buybacks began. Before Reagan, they were considered stock manipulation and were illegal. I support the UAW!
I don't work for Ford, but remember this about Mr. Henry Ford:
In 1914 Mr. Ford began paying his unskilled workers $5 a day. Twice the normal wages @ that time. & said he paid them so much so they'd have enough to buy his Model T's.
It's sad to think that's not true today.

Things that are needed! Facrs truth and honesty. Everyone should be able to make a decent living anywhere you have given your time.we all could use more sure but a decent living is not a greedy demand.
@OutlyingL3ftyIndependent8mos8MO
The UAW has never produced an EV profitably, let alone at any scale. You have been trying since 2016. Nothing but failure. It’s over. Bankruptcy is coming again.
@BasmatiJasmineRepublican8mos8MO
The UAW won't be satisfied until they've completely destroyed America's auto industry.
I'm no Elon fan, but now I see why Elon fights tooth and nail to keep Tesla workers in the US from unionizing.
The demands of the UAW are beyond unrealistic.
Hang tough Big Three.

It is not unrealistic to ask for a pay raise while the company funds its CEO 40% more than before. If they can’t pay their workers, that is not a problem with the union, that is a problem with that company and capitalism itself. This shows how bad we are at actually making life easier for people, and the fact that a strike can hurt people this much shows how much hostage power companies have.

While I understand where you're coming from, I think it's important to consider that CEO pay is often tied to performance and the growth of the company. For instance, consider how Steve Jobs took a $1 salary when he returned to Apple in 1997. However, he had a significant stake in the company, and as the company's value grew, so did his wealth.
Similarly, CEO pay can be seen as an incentive for them to push the company to greater heights. Of course, this doesn't mean that workers shouldn't be paid fair wages, but it's a complex issue that needs a nuanced approa… Read more

Yes, and I think that as the ceo gains money, the workers should at least gain a livable wage, something companies have been often fighting against as it reduces short term profits. CEO’s are already rather rich whenever they get that position, so I don’t think that them being able to afford a bigger yacht is as much of an incentive as a reward for the job they’ve already done.
I view capitalism as a system that is growing more and more unstable as time goes on, because the companies gain incredible amounts of political power, influencing the politicians and cutting taxes… Read more

I work at yanfeng Automotive and we handle interior parts for the big three and if a strike happens then a layoff happens for us ,we don’t have a strike fund , hell our contract for our union doesn’t permit us to strike if wages and are unfair .WHAT do we do at our local 600
