House Speaker Kevin McCarthy publicly knocked fellow Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on Sunday, saying his road to political stardom was paved by former President Donald Trump.
“I served with Ron DeSantis [in Congress]. He’s not at the same level as President Trump by any shape or form,” McCarthy (R-Calif.) told Fox News “Sunday Morning Futures” host Maria Bartiromo. “He would not have gotten elected [governor] without President Trump’s endorsement.”

Trump is clearly NOT stronger than he was before.
He lost the popular vote in 2016. He lost it by more in 2020.
There's no reason to believe he's gotten more popular since then

magas still support trump and will forever.. but even fewer conservatives support the party of trump than 2020.. the cheneys, bushes and real conservatives wont.. magas wont grow in numbers, likely declined.. and that alone is why they will lose in 2024...

Remember when Fox News was fed up with Trump and was suddenly backing DeSantis out of desperation? Well, they soon realized he was going nowhere, so, predictably enough, they're back to backing Trump.

Well, Kevin has his position because Trump pushed Gaetz et al to vote for him.
He knows if DeSantis is the nominee, someone like Chip Roy will be replacing him.
