Given what happens after 2016, expect more violence and screaming from the US left is Donald Trump beats Joe Biden in the 2024 election.
It’s hard to imagine what’s more extreme than one side in our politics indicting its leading opponent, creating the real prospect of jailing him in the months before an election and excluding him from the ballot in select states.
Yet if Trump wins, we have to assume this is only a taste of things to come.
If he returns to power, “the price of opposing him becomes persecution, the loss of property and possibly the loss of freedom.”
This dire view depends on every institutional bulwark of America’s system — from the courts to the military to public opinion — surrendering to a one-term president who, if history is any guide, will get rebuked in the midterms and become a lame duck by his third year in office.
But if tyranny is where you think we are headed, what’s the appropriate response?
‘We need to destroy democracy in order to save it.’ this reminds me of the quote from the Vietnam war that went something like “we needed to destroy the village in order to save it.” I’m sure that to those who make the rules, this seems very logical.
@D1rectRavenDemocrat4mos4MO
I agree. And all that America and Korea did was commit war crimes, like rapes and murders to "save" Vietnam. Only ears later, without Western influence Vietnam became Kapitalist after it was rebuilt. Trump should go to jail and think about democracy there...
@SolidB1llOfRightsRepublican4mos4MO
I think you mean "The Country Can't Handle a Trump Victory."
@R3volutionJackalDemocrat4mos4MO
Speak for yourself! You are not a spokesperson for the USA.
@SolidB1llOfRightsRepublican4mos4MO
I know right- Biden is just doing such a bang up job starting ww3 and weaponizing the doj to only prosecute his political enemies. I like not being able to afford groceries.
@9CJ6CB64mos4MO
You mean funding other countries that we promised we’d help. Also, Joe Biden isn’t at the helm of the DOJ investigations for this. In his court cases, it’s his fellow republicans that are doing the job, along with legal officials with no actual relationship to Biden. He’s done little to nothing, it’s the officials accusing him and that’s if, Biden just verbally supports them.
@ISIDEWITH4mos4MO
Do you believe the fear of persecution and loss of freedoms is an adequate justification for opposing a democratically elected president?
@9CJ6CB64mos4MO
If the basis upon which that fear is derived is because of the candidate believing in an economic system such as fascism, then perhaps, but it should revolve around how they view human rights and freedom, not if they’re a socialist or capitalist.
