I have heard from two people very familiar with the DeSantis campaign — a major donor and a high-level political operative — that if the Florida governor loses the Iowa caucuses to former President Donald Trump as expected on the night of Jan. 15, he will either drop out of the race that night or make his announcement the next morning. (Editor’s note: The DeSantis campaign vigorously denies this assertion. This op-ed has been updated to include the following statement from the campaign: “Ron DeSantis is in this for the long haul.”)
More than that, both believe DeSantis will then — very begrudgingly — endorse Trump for president.

60,000 Iowa commits for DeSantis. That is significant.
Is that good?
@SelfishPacifistRepublican5mos5MO
Yes. At this point Cruz had 51,000

This is why Team Trump is hysterical and demanding DeSantis drop out.
They have Loomer acting like a lunatic in Iowa, their child soldier surrogates attacking Roy and Massie, and now they’re spreading the “DeSantis will drop out” lie.
@RebelScum76Constitution5mos5MO
It's absolutely unacceptable for Trump to attack Chip Roy and Thomas Massie, two Congressmen with an almost extinct respect for liberty and the Constitution not seen in either party. Roy, Massie, MTG, Gaetz, Jordan, these are the liberty-defenders in the House. Rand Paul and Mike Lee in the Senate. This is all we have, and Trump attacking any of them is horrible and shows him to be a neocon RINO without a shred of respect for his oath of office.

I honestly think the polls showing Trump crushing DeSantis in Iowa were significantly over-exaggerated, possibly even fabricated, by the Deep State, because their entire strategy for rigging this election hinges on a Trump re-nomination. Their entire plan disintegrates if he loses in Iowa, the law-fare will all have been for nothing. That's why I support DeSantis – it will deal a sucker-punch to the Left that they never expected and add a few percentage points to the GOP landslide coming in 2024.

I don’t think anyone is going to be happier to see DeSantis drop out of the race than Ron himself. Guy seems absolutely miserable.
@BlissfulEgalitarian5mos5MO
I think at this point, it benefits him the most if he gets a solid 2nd in Iowa, drops out, and endorses Trump.
The longer he stays in the race, the more it will hurt his future prospects.
@RebelScum76Constitution5mos5MO
I just don't want Nikki Haley, the fascist warmongering neocon, to become President. DeSantis must stay in this race to ensure his support base doesn't back that old witch or our country will not change at all even if she defeats Biden. DeSantis's continued candidacy could be what's standing in the way of World War III.

I think that as long as the nomination goes to someone other than Trump I'm okay with it.
