During an hour-long phone call on Thursday, Xi and Putin denounced the “US policy of interfering in the internal affairs of other states”, Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov told journalists.
The two leaders spoke about creating a “multipolar, fairer world order” in the face of US-led efforts to contain both of Washington’s biggest adversaries, he said.
“The leaders of the two countries realise that the US is practically implementing a policy of double containment, [toward] both Russia and China,” he added.
Moscow has looked to Beijing as a crucial economic lifeline since the West hit Russia with unprecedented sanctions over its military assault on Ukraine.
China has, meanwhile, benefitted from cheap Russian energy imports and access to vast natural resources, including steady gas shipments via the Power of Siberia pipeline.
Trade between the two countries has surged in the last two years, hitting $218.2bn during January-November, according to Chinese customs data, achieving a goal set by the two countries in 2019 a year ahead of schedule.

Chinese shipments of advanced “computer numerical control” machine tools have increased tenfold since the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, with the country’s producers now dominating trade in the devices critical to Russia’s military industries.
Beijing and Moscow declared a “no limits” partnership days before Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, and the two have expanded ties even as most Western countries turned their back on Moscow.

The slobbering between these two leaders is uncomfortable to observe.
As Mano en Mano as they’ll be in the short run, there are historical wounds between these two neighboring countries which may manifest themselves in the long run. For now, however, I think Xi has the upper hand economically, which is typically the deciding factor in most conflicts.
Neither leader can be trusted by the US, and I don’t believe they truly privately trust each other.

Although these guys might care about their perspective countries, like most despots, their real top priority is themselves (individually) and feeding their egos and thirst for power and control.
No matter how often they have these displays their bromance or how real they are, they would turn on each other in a minute. ( i.e. China goes out of the way not to describe this relationship as an Alliance) The truth is that Sino-Russian economic cooperation cannot dominate the world's economy. They have to work within the existing economic powers and learn to lead as they assimilate and… Read more
Am I the only one who thinks that maybe, just maybe, if Biden, NATO, and the West had not purposely slow-walked the military aid requested by Ukraine, the invasion would already have been repulsed, no russians would remain in any Ukrainian territory, and the two genocidal murders, Xi and putin would not be trying to push the West for "peace in our time?" And the empty nuclear threats against the world would be seen as just that...empty threats.

Congratulations to the geniuses in the State Department and the Biden administration for pushing Russia and China into an alliance.
An alliance between the USA and Russia would have put our greatest adversary, China, on its back foot but unfortunately, that was not to be.
Kissinger had suggested that an alliance of the US and Russia would bring stability across the globe. That alliance would have halted China's revanchism. It would have gotten Iran out of the Middle East. And it would have relegated Europe to its rightful place as a Second World country.
Kissinger's concept was known… Read more
