On Tuesday, just days before a heated Republican primary on her home turf, Ms. Haley said it again.“I feel no need to kiss the ring,” she said in Greenville, S.C., pledging to continue her pursuit of the 2024 Republican presidential nomination beyond Saturday’s primary in South Carolina, her home state. “I have no fear of Trump’s retribution. I’m not looking for anything from him. My own political future is of zero concern.”In what was perhaps her most forceful speech since she began her presidential campaign last year, she pushed back against skeptics who have long urged her to drop her long-shot bid for the nomination.
Describing herself as David taking on Goliath, she said she was fighting not only someone bigger than herself but also “for something bigger” than herself. She argued that while other members of her party had given into a “herd mentality” and fallen in line behind former President Donald J. Trump, she would not.
Ms. Haley also contended that many of the Republican politicians “who now publicly embrace Trump privately dread him” and were “too afraid” to speak up, despite knowing he had been “a disaster” for the party. She said Americans deserved a choice and “not a Soviet-style election where there’s only one candidate and he gets 99 percent of the vote.”
“We don’t anoint kings in this country,” she said. “We have elections. And Donald Trump, of all people, should know we don’t rig elections.”

As someone from South Carolina who's followed Haley's career from when she rose in the ranks in the SC House, I can say that the only thing that motivates Haley is advancing her career and personal power. It's been clear from when she entered politics that she's had her sights set on the White House, and would do and say anything to get there. (What was the cause of the Civil War again, Ms. Haley?)
I will also say that her economic record in South Carolina is mixed at best. For example, she helped bring in Boeing's 787 Dreamliner assembly plant to North Charleston, but… Read more

Every elected officials has a mixed record and aspires advancement. That's neither here nor there. Reading her own campaign website, and the accomplishments she cited, what I see is a lot of lightweight legislation. For example, a $1,000 fine for a second offense of hiring an illegal. Wow. A midsized employer will make that back by the end of the day.
Boys don’t like girls who play by the same rules as they themselves do…..and Trump is making it clear: you help Haley, you are dead to me.
I hope she keeps running. She’s the only one who he would be terrified to debate.
@BenevolentSquirrelDemocrat3mos3MO
None of this matters. Haley was afraid to cross Trump at the outset of her campaign, though for obvious reasons. Just ask E. Jean Carroll.
What is most troubling is that there were no candidates of substance in the race, Trump refused to debate, he has yet to utter a word about what policies he would bring to the Presidency other than retribution, and Haley was never allowed to go head to head with him in a serious discussion of issues.
Bottom line, GOP primary voters are left with a choice of personalities, not candidates representing political positions. Too bad for them.
Even worse for America.

Nikki Haley calls the man she voted for twice and promised to pardon “unhinged”
Sounds like she’s the one that’s unhinged.
@TwoPartyAvaDemocrat3mos3MO
Why politicians whom she helped, like Tim Scott and Nancy Mace, have come out against her? It's more likely that they expect Trump to be the nominee and don't want to get on his bad side. So they've turned on her and somehow she's the one at fault?
@HumanRightsIkeDemocrat3mos3MO
'they expect Trump to be the nominee and don't want to get on his bad side'... they're afraid of Trump.
As long as Trump continues to be a free man, the number of those afraid of Trump will grow, fast.
@TwoPartyAvaDemocrat3mos3MO
But Sen. Tim Scott was over the top abasing himself before TRump.
Not a pretty look. Do these pols really think we WANT sycophantic cowards as leaders? The entire GOP leadership is cravenly following the mob, not leading. I hope the GOP pays in the election if they try to use the border because the reason there is no border solution is because of the House GOP cowards.

In Nevada, nobody could defeat Nikki Haley – yet she lost. Sound like history's most ludicrous riddle? I'll explain. In Nevada, because of laws passed by the Democrats, there's both a primary AND a caucus – and each candidate can only join one or the other. Trump joined the Caucus; Haley joined the primary, meaning she had no Trump running against her. She couldn't lose then, right? Wrong. Another Democrat law states that "None of These Candidates" must be on the ballot in the primary. So hundreds of thousands of everyday people took a collective tens… Read more

I don't "privately dread him" nor think he's been a disaster. I don't respect or agree with many of his choices, particularly in U. N. Ambassador and some of his public statements, but I'm not voting for a role model - I'm voting for someone who dislikes the Beltway as much as me.
