Beijing knows that there is no hope for an improvement in its ties with Washington, whether under Trump, Biden, or any other U.S. president. From the perspective of Beijing’s long game vis-à-vis the West, Trump’s return to the White House may well turn out to be in China’s favor, at least in the economic field. Here are five reasons why.
1. Trump would increase divisions between the United States and Europe.
-Cementing distrust between the United States and Europe is the best way to prevent the emergence of trans-Atlantic policies detrimental to Chinese interests, such as joint export controls. From that perspective, a second Trump presidency would play into China’s hand. “I think the European Union is a foe, what they do to us in trade,” Trump said in 2018, and there is no indication that he has changed his mind.
2. Trump could make a U-turn on sanctions against Russia.
-If his admiration for Putin remains intact, Trump could well decide to lift sanctions on Russia as soon as he enters office, much to the horror of European countries.

Trump imposed tariffs on China, which they hated, Trump initiated America First, which they hated, Trump instituted a travel ban when they were trying to send the China virus to the United States, which they hated – he did more than any modern president to make China uncomfortable. Biden has done more than any modern president to do the bidding of China. No one believes this.
