Onslaught of violence against women and children in Gaza unacceptable: UN experts

UN experts* today condemned the continued and systematic onslaught of violence committed against Palestinians in Gaza, with most victims being women and children over the past seven months.

“We are horrified at details emerging from mass graves recently unearthed in the Gaza Strip. Over 390 bodies have been discovered at Nasser and Al Shifa hospitals, including of women and children, with many reportedly showing signs of torture and summary executions, and potential instances of people buried alive,” the experts said.

They noted that women, girls and children overall are among those…  Read more

The fact that Israel banned Al Jazeera hours before beginning its assault on Rafah is not a coincidence.

After everything we’ve seen in the last 7 months, imagine what they’ll do when they think no one is watching.

Why aren't there any foreign journalists in Gaza?

🤔

Oh... Hamas doesn't let them in...

 @Gr4ssrootsPaisleyWomen’s Equalityfrom Minnesota disagreed…2wks2W

Hamas has no say in it, since it's territory occupied by Israel. But you're right, Israel won't let them in.

 @Ind3pendentHareDemocrat from Massachusetts disagreed…2wks2W

Hamas kicked out Al Arabiyah (saudi) years ago. Their correspondents sit in jerusalem now. Hamas liked Al Jezeera's narrative, which is why they allowed them to stay.

 @FreedomShadsSocialist from Florida commented…2wks2W

Hard to overstate how catastrophic a full-scale Rafah invasion would be. Northern Gaza is now experiencing famine. The Kerem Shalom crossing is now closed. There is no safe place for people to go. No infrastructure. No plan for how to get aid into Gaza.

The issue is that this feels already as yesterday’s news. It was spoken about for a week, now quiet on this topic. Rafah is under attack, people have to move again, so focus is on that. In two weeks more mass graves are found and the cycle continues 😔

Thousands of Chinese Electric Vehicles Pile Up At European Ports

Imported vehicles are seriously piling up at European ports, turning them into “car parks.” Automakers are distributors are struggling with a slowdown in car sales as well as logistical bottlenecks that make it hard to alleviate the buildup of new, unsold vehicles.

Some Chinese brand EVs had been sitting in European ports for up to 18 months, while some ports had asked importers to provide proof of onward transport, according to industry executives. One car logistics expert said many of the unloaded vehicles were simply staying in the ports until they were sold to distributors or end users.

“It’s chaos,” said another person who had been briefed on the situation.

 @ISIDEWITHasked…2wks2W

How do you feel about the environmental impact of thousands of unsold electric vehicles sitting unused in ports?

 @9M7HYZNRepublican  from Minnesota answered…2wks2W

They are wasting away, useless manufacturing, the batteries are acidic and could be bad for the waters surrounding the port.

 @9M7JLWR from Massachusetts answered…2wks2W

The use of private electric vehicles may address the environmental impacts of cars, but otherwise is ineffective at addressing other issues

 @9M7J8X7 from Nebraska answered…2wks2W

I feel that they do not affect anything so long as they are not polluting areas and it is the equivalent of coca cola having a large supply of coke not being sold.

 @9M7J6RP from North Carolina answered…2wks2W

I think it's terible and they should be removed. And if people are abanding them they should be fined.

The Rainbow Unicorn crowd seems intent on poisoning the planet.

There is nothing "green" about E.V.'s; they are worse that Internal Combustion Engines (I.C.E.'s).

More waste in production, petroleum or coal fired electricity to charge, and huge toxic time bombs of plastic and chemicals when junked.

Closer to home here in the USA...

In Chesterfield MO, of all places, you can find hundreds of new, unsold Teslas, including Cybertrucks, parked at a soon-to-be demolished shopping mall.

Beyond asking why they are there, isn't the local Fire Department concerned about the concentrated fire risk?

Or is that the plan? Burn down the old mall via the Tesla conflagration?

Insurance pays both ways?

I'll be sure to be up-wind when that fire starts!

Remember in 2020 when Wall Street 'priced in' the growing EV market? You had small companies with only 80million in revenue that didn't make any profit being valued as a multi-billion dollar company (BLNK).

Now if you do a pump and dump you go to jail, but if Wall Street blatantly does it (EV, AI) well... 'it's just the free market...' . Nah, it's all a fraud pump and dump and their boy Gensler at the SEC is in on it.

Hamas accepted a ceasefire proposal, but Israel said it was unacceptable

Hamas announced Monday it has accepted an Egyptian-Qatari proposal for a cease-fire to halt the seven-month-long war with Israel in Gaza, hours after Israel ordered about 100,000 Palestinians to begin evacuating from the southern city of Rafah, signaling that a long-promised ground invasion there could be imminent.

It is not clear whether the deal will meet Hamas’ key demand of bringing about an end to the war and complete Israeli withdrawal.

Hamas said in a statement its top leader, Ismail Haniyeh, had delivered the news in a phone call with Qatar’s prime minister and Egypt’s…  Read more

Hamas is in agony and seeks to thwart the military operation in Rafah by any means necessary. We must not yield to its deceptive maneuvers.

Florida Law Prohibits Chinese Citizens From Buying Homes

More than three dozen states have enacted or are considering similar laws restricting land purchases by Chinese citizens and companies, arguing that such transactions are a growing threat to national security and that the federal government has failed to stop Chinese Communist Party influence in America.

Florida’s law, which went into effect in July, is among the furthest reaching. In addition to barring Chinese entities from buying agricultural land, it effectively prohibits most Chinese individuals without a green card from purchasing residential property. Gov. Ron DeSantis signed the…  Read more

And people are complaining about this Florida law? There should be a federal policy that says that if China does not allow US citizens or companies freedom of commerce, then those same laws should apply here. It’s a simple concept actually.

 @MercifulD1plom4tDemocrat from Arizona disagreed…2wks2W

This is a good law. In many parts of rural America, foreign speculators have bought up all sorts of real-estate- and they just let the properties rot, banking on property values just continuing to rise. They have no actual interest in the community.

 @EmptyChameleonDemocrat from Massachusetts agreed…2wks2W

The exact same applies in the most populous, expensive cities in the country. Those gigantic towering eyesores in NYC? They're all empty--investments for the world's oligarchs and their children.

 @HushedCraneTranshumanistfrom Maine commented…2wks2W

I don't see the problem with this. Most countries have pretty strict rules around who can buy property, prioritizing citizens. This helps keep property values manageable without foreign investment driving up prices. If anything, I'd love to see this become the norm across all states. I can't just got property wherever I want.

 @EagleSophiaDemocratfrom Illinois agreed…2wks2W

in California there are large numbers of homes owned by Chinese nationals who do not live in these residences. It is artificially driving up real estate costs at a time when many Americans cannot afford homes here.

 @F4irTradeDeerWorking Family from California commented…2wks2W

I hate to stand with Ron DeSantis, however, I fully agree that enough is enough with foreign purchase of American land. I do not mind foreigners purchasing of a basic vacation home, however, the purchase of multiple homes, majority ownership of US businesses and land other than the acre, or less land a home sits on should be denied. Our government is lax on this and the purchase of land by foreigners in any form is not guaranteed in our Constitution. Many of these countries like China and Russia do not offer this freedom to us, therefore reciprocally, it should be denied of them. At this point Congress must act and any of the afre mentioned purchases by foreign national;s beyond a vacation home of reasonable size should be sold to an American, or American business. If they lose on the sale, so what.

 @L1b3rtyKennedyRepublican from New York agreed…2wks2W

Agree. Other countries limit foreign purchases and we should too.( for reasons different from these)

Canada’s ‘Wacko’ Drug Policy

On April 26 the province said it wants the federal government to “recriminalize” drug consumption in public spaces such as in hospitals, parks and buses. In his intervention from the floor Mr. Poilievre blamed the Trudeau government’s drug decriminalization last year in British Columbia for feeding a crisis and linked it to the 2,500 drug deaths annually in the province. In particular Mr. Poilievre was upset about the deterioration in the quality of life for children, families, hospital workers and anyone who uses public transit. Mr. Poilievre, a member of the Conservative…  Read more

Drugs radically alter the user's brain chemistry. By definition, that alteration changes the user's experience of reality and therefore, their ability to cope constructively.

How does anyone think widespread drug use is going turn out well for the individual user or the community they live in?

 @BallotBoxJohnnyDemocrat from Delaware commented…2wks2W

It's not about increasing drug use through "widespread use" as you put it; it's about decreasing the black market/crime and increasing safety through regulation. The US can't even regulate a safe food market, so I wouldn't expect them to be able to tackle the drug problem wholistically. We can't even provide or treat mental health problems, which in lies the main the problem and why people turn to drug use in the first place.

This is where I draw the line. Here in CA, homeless camps are filled with drug addled people who get a monthly check from the government, which pays for their self-destruction. IMHO, the government is worse than the pushers who helped to get these people addicted.
