Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has cancelled foreign trips as a Russian offensive in north-east Ukraine intensifies.
Russian forces have recaptured the symbolically important village of Rabotino in Zaporozhye Region, the Defense Ministry reported on Wednesday.
The territorial gain was achieved through military action against the Ukrainian forces in the region, in which the adversary lost up to 25 troops and a US-made M777 howitzer, the ministry’s update on the Ukraine conflict said.
Ukraine has pulled back troops from some areas in the border region.
But the Ukrainian military insists it is "not allowing the Russian occupiers to gain a foothold.
"Meanwhile in Kyiv, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken announces an extra $2bn of US funding for Ukraine.
"We're rushing ammunition, armored vehicles, missiles, air defences to get them to the front lines," Blinken says
There are only two rational outcomes in this war, a Russian victory or a nuclear war. You can get to one of these outcomes today or ten years from now. It’s the same choice Ukranians had in 2014, 2022, today and ten years from now. Being a proxy for the west in a fight with your nuclear neighbor was never a good idea. Too bad the poor Ukranian people, not the corrupt elites, didnt have a democratic say in this.
Russia knows that nobody wins a nuclear war or they would have used their nukes already. If the Republicans hadn't folded to Putin, the battle would likely be a stalemate. And winning on the battlefield doesn't mean winning the war. Historically, occupying forces have rarely succeeded in the long run.
I am increasingly troubled by the U.S. response. We seem able to send bombs to Israel whenever we want, while waffling and delaying on Ukraine.

Joe Biden must lift restrictions on the use of US weapons to attack military targets inside Russia. Facing a dysfunctional Congress holding military aid for so long, lifting restrictions would have allowed Ukraine to attack supply lines inside Russia.
This one hasn’t been difficult to see coming. Ukraine has been losing for a while - be propped up solely by the United States. As Biden continues to stumble through the last months of his presidency making a series of foreign policy blunders, the chances of a Trump victory look all but certain. If so? Ukraine will be lost to the annals of history.
Unfortunately it looks like Russia is going to win this war, which means we have to win the peace. Ukraine will have to give up at least some of it's land, but in exchange, the West will have to guarantee the rest - not with its usual empty promises, but with soldiers from across all of NATO, on Ukraine's eastern borders. This is the only way to guarantee that Ukraine will ever be a free democracy within NATO.
The very nature of wars has changed. There are no victors in wars anymore only stalemates. As the enemies of the stronger side keep supplying the weaker side to perpetually bleed the stronger side.
Just imagine America after pumping in trillions of dollars and fighting for over a decade could not bring the Taliban down do you think Ukraine will be able to win over Russia?
This war is hurting the common man on both sides. The villain is Putin. There will be peace only when Putin is removed from power.
So finally we come to admit what many of us knew already. That Russia cannot be defeated on the battlefield, and throwing billions of dollars into the fight when the primary problem is one of Ukrainian manpower is a waste. Hopefully this is the first step towards a negotiated settlement. Yes, much of it will be on Russia's terms. Which is why it would have been a better idea to do it before the war started.

This is a lost cause for Ukraine, it has been since day one and the fact that our administration didn’t see that makes it all even scarier.

Perhaps better to come out with it and admit that the uniquely political delay in Congress over the Ukraine support bill has been a catastrophe that may well have lost Ukraine the war.
