No, but non-government organizations should be involved for oversight and report unethical and abusive use of AI both to the government and to the public for accountability reasons. Government obviously cannot be trusted to determine and adhere to what is considered ethical.

The government should fund research to create open source AI technology, and prevent patents on the same from accruing to the private sector.

 @9NMQWZN from Idaho answered…2 days2D

Yes, but it needs to be regulated by people who have current understanding of AI and software engineering.

 @9NMKM6Q from Pennsylvania answered…2 days2D

It is too late to regulate AI - we need to regulate life around living with AI in the form of UBI or a similar income stabilization measure.

 @9NMCQC6 from California answered…3 days3D

Yes, but regulations should be determined by a non-patisian lottery of AI-educated individuals in a variety of fields (machine learning, dark data, social media, network infrastructure, etc)

 @9NJLQYV from Massachusetts answered…4 days4D

No, the goverment should not regulate it it should be for example, the SAG to regulate AI use in movies television and other media forms

 @9NGXYQC from Illinois answered…5 days5D

There is no way to prevent bad actors from using AI for unethical use. Just make laws to punish those who do use it unethically.

 @9N8VZSC from Utah answered…1wk1W

No

No, government is the last group I would want monitoring ethics.

Government and ethics seem to be pulling further apart daily. It would be the last place I would expect to recommend what is ethical and what isn't.

 @9N7QKR9Libertarian from New York answered…1wk1W

Yes, but regulation should be done carefully and only to ensure that models which directly threaten human existence are contained

 @9N5299Q from Alabama answered…2wks2W

An independent governing body should establish a code of ethics and corporations, governments and institutions should not do business with anyone operating outside of that code.

 @9N4LZDCLibertarian from California answered…2wks2W

"regulating AI" is too broad of a question. AI is something that is used in a myriad of ways in nearly every major industry today. Specific regulations should be applied for specific industries, but there should not be universal regulations, as they would be too nonspecific to enforce.

 @9N37TT9 from Texas answered…2wks2W

Yes, but this requires updating and correcting our outdated copyright, trademark, and intellectual property laws.

 @9N23KFJ from Georgia answered…2wks2W

Somebody should, but the government does not have a track record of being trustworthy enough to regulate the ethical use of anything.

 @9MSYW9B from Georgia answered…2wks2W

To a certain extent yes, however I don't think they should have full control.

 @9MSYPV5 from Kansas answered…2wks2W

 @9MSX2D9 from New Jersey answered…2wks2W

No, I don’t trust the government to regulate artificial intelligence (AI) to ensure ethical use

 @9MSLKPN from Utah answered…2wks2W

Hypothetically if a governing entity could ethically be held accountable for the oversight of AI then yes it would be a good option.

 @9MS9PGD from Texas answered…2wks2W

Government regulations don’t often lead to ethical use. The government itself would more than likely be the culprit of unethical use.

the government should ensure AI is not being used for harmful purposes, but not regulate all of it.

 @9MRLRH2Republican from Wisconsin answered…2wks2W

I do believe regulation is needed when it comes to being sold to the public but it can be looked into

 @9MRH2JN from Illinois answered…2wks2W

Government should regulate some aspects, but not control what people do with AI

 @9MQ9RFC from Oregon answered…2wks2W

A third party government approved and supervised organization should be created using technical, objective, minds that pass multiple ethical screening tests in relations to general human ethics in society and ethics for technology specifically.

 @9MQ6N6H from Michigan answered…2wks2W

No, the government cannot be trusted to decide what is ethical and unethical

 @9MPNYMJ from Illinois answered…2wks2W

The government should not regulate what is generated by AI, but it should be allowed to regulate it to prevent bias being included in the training data.

 @9MPNVFC from North Carolina answered…2wks2W

Gov't regulation of AI would not "ensure" anything; the Gov't does not well understand AI (as perhaps the private sector does not, either) and has no coherent strategy for regulating beyond current legal constraints (in existing law).

 @9MP8Q3B from Pennsylvania answered…2wks2W

I would say yes, but I use AI for unethical use, so if I put yes I'd be a hypocrite, so no

To a degree, certain uses of ai should be limited depending on the use of the ai and its prominent viewer and user base

 @9MNZWZBSocialist from New Jersey answered…2wks2W

Yes, but only for things where companies are liable for any misuse or a marker stating that the content is AI generated and not real

 @9MNQYWT from New York answered…2wks2W

 @9MNQBVF from Minnesota answered…2wks2W

Yes but not to limit data but to make sure people can't find ways to make thing such as nuclear bombs and stuff

 @9MNQ7XQ from Florida answered…2wks2W

Somewhat. Things that would effect careers should definitely be regulated.

 @9MNPKLM from Virginia answered…2wks2W

 @9MNP9LPfrom Guam answered…2wks2W

But it should be a strict laws and Mandate on ethical laws for tech companies and responsibility of the corporations to abide by laws

 @9MNKM6BIndependent from Texas answered…2wks2W

Yes, people should be protected from AI. People who use AI to create sexual videos with people without their consent should be criminally charged. AI shouldn't be used for choosing people for jobs either because the AI could be biased from given data or the AI could be tricked or fail to choose suitable people. I also think AI art should be regulated where the AI art must say it's AI-produced right on the image and that the human doesn't own it since it's stealing other people's art in the process.

 @9MMW4Z8Republican from Michigan answered…3wks3W

Depending on the situation AI is being used in, it should be regulated. Only situationally however, as it has many benefits aside from those we are already aware of.

 @9MM7NMZ from Minnesota answered…3wks3W

As long as no one becomes over reliant on it I don't think it should matter, but I do think that over reli8ance would become a pig problem if it were to happen.

 @9MLQSBB from California answered…3wks3W

Yes, but not just for ethical use. The government should also ensure that the AI being used stays isolated and does not expand beyond its purpose. In other words, the government should regulate the protection against AI and ensure that it is being used in a positive manner.
