And that is deplorable. The electoral college doesn't work, but it does take away the voice of the people

A popular vote would take away the voice of rural communities as big cities would overwhelm them because of their sheer numbers in population. A popular vote only works in smaller areas, like states and cities. But in a country where states have different cultures and such, a popular vote would concentrate the power in elections in the big cities, which have drastically different politics than rural communities.
