I disagree. In fact the electoral college is the very thing that allows voters to have a voice from their own state. Many times people have talked about wanting to abolish it, but if it is abolished and it is only decided by popular vote, then the deciding factors of every presidential election would be America’s most populated cities. Meaning the solid majority of U.S. states would have practically no impact on elections whatsoever.

Without the Electoral college, smaller, less populated states would have no say at all in national elections. A presidential candidate could win just by taking five or six of the largest, most populated states. Presidents are supposed to represent all citizens of the United States. A president who relied on only New York, Illinois, California and Florida to get elected wouldn't need to "represent" anyone but the people in those states.
