The U.S. military budge pays the salaries, training, and health care of uniformed and civilian personnel, maintains arms, equipment and facilities, funds operations, and develops and buys new items. The 2023 U.S. military budget is $773 billion, an increase of 4% over 2022’s budget. The budget includes $177.5 billion for the Army, $194 billion for the Air Force and Space Force and $230.8 billion for the Navy and Marine Corps. Other country’s 2021 military budgets were China $293 billion, United Kingdom $68.4 billion and Russia $66 billion.

Decrease only by eliminating wasteful spending. Maintain adequate funding for military readiness, technological innovation, and fair troop pay
Decrease ever so slightly.
Decrease by a small amount
@8X4NFF8Women’s Equality4yrs4Y
I don't even know how much they spend.
Only increase during wartime and conflict.
Increase only if an attack or war is starting
Yes, but mainly toward Veterans
@99KNS9RWomen’s Equality3yrs3Y
Increase, but not drastically.
@98Z2KYX3yrs3Y
Decrease, until we reduce our national deficit
Increase, and nationalize the defense industry
@8WN9Q3NWomen’s Equality4yrs4Y
Depends on the specific situation
I am satisfied with the current amount of spending ,cancel space Force and use those funds for veterans
We need to invest in a modern military that’s ready for today’s threats—like cyber warfare, global instability, and adversaries like China and Russia—while cutting outdated systems and wasteful spending. I’ll support budgets that strengthen our readiness, take care of our troops and veterans, and ensure taxpayer dollars are spent wisely. Strong doesn’t mean bloated—it means smart, accountable, and prepared.

I don't think I am informed enough to speak on this topic however, I think it's pretty good where the spending is now however, if we were to go to war or have something potentially like that, I find it necessary to increase spending.
Decrease, we could get to a high deficit where spending more on the military could cause a recession.
Decreas marginally, but there should be better oversight for spending. Like pass an audit which they have not in ages.
@9YLD8WGWomen’s Equality11mos11MO
I dont believe we should be fighting in wars. If people want to fight over land, the people in power can fight each other
They should keep it it at a reasonable level, so that they can have money and finances for other stuff.
Decrease if possible, the current spending in necessary to establish ourselves and continue to represent ourselves.
@9Y9XZLXWomen’s Equality11mos11MO
I'd only say either decrease or keep the same because the government has our army and military constantly fighting. I'd say overall stop the fights and wars.
@9Y8WP7XWomen’s Equality11mos11MO
they should increase because the military people are serving us and they need to be treated the rest of there life no matter if it was just a year they still did some
@9Y6TZ2JWomen’s Equality 11mos11MO
I think that the military is a very useful resource so i think it should have a decent spending but to only increase it when need not because its a want but only if necessary
I believe that government spending should be reviewed every 2 to 4 years and currently should never go over 555 billion. If it’s split correctly, evenly and use properly, I believe that this would be plenty of money for our government to continue to keep up and provide for its members. But if truly needed more money would be fine.
@9Y23ZTWWomen’s Equality 11mos11MO
decrease because they serve our country and should be able to get any equipment they need at any given moment
Government sponsored military contracts need to be more regulated and investigated to prevent overspending and conflict of interest
@9XX4MLTWomen’s Equality11mos11MO
only in times of crisis, for the most part you can still spend on the military but not the drastic amount it is now
@9XWSW4VWorking Family11mos11MO
Whatever enables us to be competitive with the world powers, on multiple fronts. American exceptionalism! But we should prioritize our populations we'll being more than we currently do.
@9XSGJXNWomen’s Equality11mos11MO
I think if the military is desperate for funding then I would increase but I wouldn't increase drastically.
Funding should be reevaluated. Are we compensating soldiers and supporting veterans, or is the money going all to contractors?
Needs to be decreased until we see better allocation of funds; to mental health, family support, and payment.
Reduce wasteful spending first and decrease and try to budget for education. Only increase when actually needed
@9XJZ2DBWomen’s Equality11mos11MO
I think this amount is enough don't need to increase or decrease because if you spend too much you need to get more taxes on us and if you use less other country going to think like we are weaker and they going to attack us.
@9XHDKPYWomen’s Equality11mos11MO
Depending on the situation of what the military is doing at the moment. If our country is fighting for something specific that is damaging the rights or the lifes of the people then it should be increased.
Increase, but only by a bit because we need to spend more on education and other community programs.
Neither but we should divert spending and spend less on weapons and more on education, training, and benefits for our soldiers and veterans.
@9XH2T2ZWomen’s Equality11mos11MO
I honestly don't think I wanna answer this question because it just doesn't effect nor concern me that much. It probably is important, but I just don't think it is in my range of...I don't even know.
Decrease spending by reallocating some of the budget to education, healthcare, and the prison system, and only decrease the budget by 5-10%.
Decrease to Israel, increase to Ukraine, decrease aid to India and other countries that support Russia.
This is an ever changing situation and the decision should be based on solid information from the military
@9XC7PPWWomen’s Equality11mos11MO
it depends on what happens but generally I think it should decrease unless we need to use the military for certain works, projects, then I believe we can increase the spending.
I think that there should not be that much in spending from my taxes on the military. Don't get me wrong there is war and there is a lot of warfare that America is involved with and that they would have to spend money on the military for supplies and weaponry, I just wish that the federal tax that the government collects is more distributed to education and to the homeless rather than so much as in, billions of dollars spent.
only put money twords whats needed. like training, medi care, vehicals, and over all better equipment
Decrease to focus on public issues and ensuring everyone has access to fundamental rights, but mainting high level of funding for the protection of citizens and development of technology
@9X6W9RVWomen’s Equality11mos11MO
decrease only because they are spending more than 800 billion dollars. I think staying the millions is more than enough. If its going to good deeds such as helping the poor, donating, services, etc then that would be a different story
Neither, but the DoD should be required to use part of their budget to better support Vets and active military families
Decrease - Government contractors are charging massive amounts in comparison to 20 years ago and these contractors have bought up smaller companies which has created LESS compatition and higher prices. Also, retireing miliary should not be allowed to work for a lobbing company or defense contractor for at least 10 years after retirement
The government should worry about finding our military to fight for our own country and stop sending our troops and weapons and millions of dollars to other countries.
@9WQV27LWomen’s Equality11mos11MO
The government needs an outside contractor to assess cost. They overpay to keep the pay out high. So much money is wasted or overspend. Adjustment is needed, not more
@9WPTVF8Working Family11mos11MO
i dont really know how much is being spent and if that is enough or not so i dont think that im even qualified to answer this question
Again, another vague question. Increase if needed. Decried not needed. The government contracts with the private sector is where the corruption is anyway so it doesn’t matter anyway
The military doesn’t even know where there dollars are spent. If they knew that then maybe I’d be okay with their budget. They can’t account for most of their expenditures
@9WNB5H9Women’s Equality11mos11MO
Depends on how much we are already spending. Enough to where we are protected, but less to where we can use the extra money to cover debts
decrease, spend it on more important things such as poverty, giving people aid that need it, and many other things that accommodate to the poor
Increase as necessary to assure democracy worldwide. Spend where it is the most benefit to the military
@9WLCN6PWomen’s Equality11mos11MO
Decrease, we should allocate our military spending with more care. Educating our allies instead of fighting their wars for them.
Decrease, but maintain a good reasonable amount to keep the military strong and the country safe (increase only if needed then decrease back down when things are stable again)
It should be less prioritized, as the money could go to places that improve life for the people of this country.
@9WG7QWKWomen’s Equality11mos11MO
Decrease, let’s focus on solving our own problems before we spend more on assisting military for other countries.
@9WFCD6WWorking Family11mos11MO
decrease and how off a bit to see where we are and how we do with spending less money and if needed, find a way to find more affordable solutions.
Stil have it enough to be able to deffend ourselves and have the best army in the world but not much more than that.
@9W4QPHVWomen’s Equality11mos11MO
only increase when there is impending danger towards the countries safety . if there is any concern for attack on US land then I think it would be beneficial but not right now .
Increase, but the monopolistic power our defense contractors have over the DOD really needs to be taken care of.
We spend much of our military budget on providing for allied countries such as NATO members and they need to start pulling their weight and then we can cut down on the military spending that isn't even going to the US military.
Decrease slightly, allowing spending on necessary items and training, and limiting spending on unnecessary or over the top items
Decrease, but do it based on rooting out the rampant waste now so prominent, and in the face of true emergencies.
Make sure the money is being used for wars the American people support and that make sense for the country in the long run.
Decrease but only enough so that we are still able to maintain our military presence, capability, and strength
I would not go in with the aim of either increasing or decreasing the overall spending. I would look at where the money is being spent currently and maximize cost efficiency. I do believe the current size of the United States military is too bloated and needs to be scaled back.
This is a complex issue. Find out what is excess and cut it and fund what the military needs and what our expectatins are for the military.
Funds need to be redistributed. Amount spent on contractors is crazy and can be allocated in other places
I believe the military contributes to the economy greatly and creates many jobs for people that would otherwise have a more difficult time finding employment; however, I wish the tax money we made in return from the military was spent on the people i.e. healthcare, infrastructure, education and etc.
It depends if we have reason to believe that our current spending isn't enough, or leaving us in a vulnerable sate
If the other countries are able to use smaller amounts of money for their armies and some of them have almost as much or some even more than us, we should be able to spend LESS on military funds.
Military personnel should be adequately compensated, especially when exiting the military or injured in any way. Living wages and beyond should be provided as well
If they were to decrease we would have more money for other things but if they increase you get better weapons for wars. I’m in between on this one.
In times of war, yes, but in times of peace a reduced amount so while were still giving them enough for their research and tests we also have enough for ourselves.
I believe that the government should put money into the military but it should not be drastic amounts since the United States is in a large amount of debt
@9V3X2YGWomen’s Equality12mos12MO
Keep the same but they don't have to spend the entire thing nor can they request more, the remaining balance for one year can roll over to the next.
The military should be given enough money to protect the US and our allies. But the funding also needs to be controlled and not a free for all.
Un-privatize the military industrial complex so that Lockheed-Martin isn't bleeding the American government dry on every screw and nail.
If we think we are about to go to war soon, then we should increase spending. Other then that, decrease.
Neither, reallocate funds to the welfare of active members and veterans instead of heavily investing in weapons.
The government should either decrease or increase military spending based on the current events going on in the world, or if America is involved.
Increase for research and development of new technology for military purposes, but not for purchasing/use of weapons.
I feel as we spend a little too much on our military budget, i would say to give it a slight/small decrease to use that money for other things.
i think they should just invest what is necessary because they have to eat, fight and many more things should weather they spend a lot or less is up to them because if we dcerease they wont have the materials to fight and that is an issue
Decrease, the money should go towards other things that are more important. The military is not needed much at the moment, we don't need to be so involved with other countries. We should worry about our own internal issues more.
it would be depending on what we are funding for specifically, cause if we put more money into them to create wars we could settle by talking it out or some other way that doesn't involve in a physical altercation I would say no to wars and yes to peaceful negotiation. Not everyone had to be higher then the other cause everyone will be afraid of everyone of high power or stronger and we don't want that fear cause fear is a corrupter.
Neither really!! I feel middle since there are increasing or decreasing the amount of cash but on the other hand they should spend a little on the spending
Military spending should only be increased if spent towards something of importance instead of wastefulness.
I am happy with the current spending but I would like the U.S.'s defense dollars spent more efficiently.
No, Russia, North Korea, Iran, Syria, Venezuela and China are all working together to defeat democratic countries. We need to decouple from China
It depends on the era that we are living with but its should be a decent amount of spending in my option
Reallocate defence spending to defence against cyber attack and streamline the armed services with the most advanced weaponry.
Decrease spending, increase oversight and transparency. Implement more stringent waste and abuse regulations.
They should decrease the spending towards conquest-like ordeals, and use that spending for defense instead of offense.
I think the government should only increase the spendings if we are currently at war and need the money.
Once an issue arises that requires an increase in military spending only then should more money be thrown into the armed forces
