We need a lot of money put into our military, China is starting to step up their military up a lot and being prepared is the best we can be

 @TheRightSophieLibertarian from New Jersey  disagreed…2yrs2Y

It's true that China has been increasing its military spending. However, it's worth noting that the U.S. still spends more on its military than the next 10 countries combined, including China. Our defense budget is so large that even a moderate reduction would still leave us with a formidable military force.

Perhaps we should consider investing more in diplomacy and international cooperation. For example, the U.S. could lead a global disarmament initiative, encouraging all nations to decrease their military spending. Not only would this reduce the likelihood of conflict, but it would also free up resources for pressing global issues like climate change and poverty.

What do you think about this idea? How do you believe we can maintain national security while also addressing these global challenges?

 @B6FFRCZ from Montana  answered…1mo1MO

This question is based on a false premise of arbitrary budgeting. Our military spending is not determined by a percentage of GDP or political negotiation. It is determined by the Doctrine of Sufficient Defense. The President-Regent, as military commander, will assess the credible threats to the Republic. The Assembly of Stewards will then allocate the exact amount of funding required to provide a defense so strong that no enemy would dare attack. If the threat increases, spending will increase. If the world becomes more peaceful, spending will decrease. The budget is dictated by the reality of the threat, not the other way around.

 @B5KHFTL from Montana  answered…4mos4MO

More of the funding should go to the actual soldiers that are fighting, rather than just government officials and high ranking officers collecting all the revenue or spending it on stupid things.

 @B2SMQ64 from Montana  answered…7mos7MO

The government should decrease the military spending, not because the military is not good but because we are spending $1.2 trillion dollars

 @B2M3XPSLibertarian from Montana  answered…8mos8MO

Reduce fraud, waste and abuse in Research and development while increasing operational, training, and equipment funding.

 @9ZGGZJ9 from Montana  answered…10mos10MO

I think we should focus more on statewide military and veterans. The funding should be more focused on the mental and physical wellbeing of current and past military members.

 @9XMCWYJ  from Montana  answered…10mos10MO

Decrease to where it was in 2022's budget. In a time of crisis, i.e. our own war, vote for additional funding.

 @9XL9M7Q from Montana  answered…10mos10MO

Decrease a bit, but not too much. And put the spending that we took off, in other things that would need a bit more spending.

 @9TR8SGJProgressive from Montana  answered…12mos12MO

Increase funding into technology that can replace humans in battle and increase laser weapon based studies for lower price destruction

 @9T9XQPR from Montana  answered…1yr1Y

i would say decrease it just a little to help us with getting more money after taxes since it goes to the military

 @9SP7QWXRepublican from Montana  answered…1yr1Y

it all depends on the later yes in the past if they had used the money right and wisely then yes they should be able to get a little more. but if they had been irresponsible, then no they shouldn't.

 @9RLM5KBIndependent from Montana  answered…1yr1Y

Military funding is higher than necessary in some departments and to low in others but it should not be changed because if funding is not being used in full the government will naturally decrease it anyways

 @9LM7W7H from Montana  answered…1yr1Y

Regardless, the nation should not have a standing army in times of peace. During peace time the military should be a labor force for public good.

 @9LKVYWT from Montana  answered…1yr1Y

Every Country that we deal with comes with their hand out. I’m for helping the Ukraine but I’m not so sure about Israel.

 @9KWY6C9 from Montana  answered…1yr1Y

I think whatever is best, I think it is important to support the military and their financial need but only things that are very important.

 @9KGWHW9 from Montana  answered…2yrs2Y

No, instead improve spending to be more efficient and targeted heavier towards defensive capabilities.

 @9JRB8DJIndependent from Montana  answered…2yrs2Y

They should only increase if they need to. They also need to be sure that they keep research on their equipment and keep it updated. The government should not give out as much equipment to other countries.

 @9JBQB9D from Montana  answered…2yrs2Y

Make it more accountable and less profitable to the secret industries who are, in my opinion, war profiteers.

 @9H8GWL9 from Montana  answered…2yrs2Y

Keep the same spending, but ask for countries that receive our protections to pay for the help we give them.

 @9GNGMVX from Montana  answered…2yrs2Y

I believe that government funding within our military system can be used better if we could reallocate funds towards undermined military programs.

 @9G88HYF  from Montana  answered…2yrs2Y

Increase- ONLY for ensuring proper treatment for our Veterans. the VA medical centers are atrocious; eliminate them, move to providing nationally acknowledged insurance.

 @9FJFDJSLibertarian from Montana  answered…2yrs2Y

 @9DZCTQR from Montana  answered…2yrs2Y

Neither, it should get rid of wasteful spending and use it somewhere else, however if need be it should increase.

 @9DS86N8 from Montana  answered…2yrs2Y

 @9DLCX68Democrat from Montana  answered…2yrs2Y

 @9RK466R from Montana  answered…1yr1Y

Increase funding to personnel and technology. Decrease funding to non-essential supplies, administration, and unnecessary expenses (example - traveling to a meeting that can be held online).

 @9BM7RP9 from Montana  answered…2yrs2Y

We should keep a military, but for the sole purpose of defense, never to attack. If any money gets spent, it should be spent on shields, not swords (metaphorically).

 @9BKBHNF from Montana  answered…2yrs2Y

Decrease, and use this money in areas such as environmental protection and social welfare

 @98V2N8GIndependent from Montana  answered…3yrs3Y

Military spending needs to be reduced in the specific funding that is unless.

 @96N2NPL from Montana  answered…3yrs3Y

Have some extra money on standby to quickly increase spending if needed

 @96MHNQP from Montana  answered…3yrs3Y

Decrease but only to what is necessary for them to keep their same level of activity

 @96595LH from Montana  answered…3yrs3Y

Neither, but put more funding into military research and studies instead of weapons.

 @94JJDD4 from Montana  answered…3yrs3Y

Try to spend more efficiently and ensure that money also goes to recovery programs and the VA, because those need serious reform.

 @94CXPCS from Montana  answered…3yrs3Y

Is there a problem with the current budget? What would the money go towards if the budget was increased? Are there any consequences to decreasing the budget?

 @94B68C7 from Montana  answered…3yrs3Y

Decrease and reallocate funds into maintenance and care of equipment instead of new technology

 @944YFK2 from Montana  answered…3yrs3Y

The amount of current government spending is satisfactory, however, The deficit that the country has needs to be decreased.

 @93XK6M8 from Montana  answered…3yrs3Y

 @93BTKGW from Montana  answered…3yrs3Y

 @9393SMW from Montana  answered…3yrs3Y

I think that we should only in times of crisis or if our enemies are advancing in their armies tech.

 @937W4MR from Montana  answered…3yrs3Y

 @937VR8L from Montana  answered…3yrs3Y

I think our spending is bordering on excessive amounts, but I think it is reasonably important to have some degree of spending, but 600 billion per year is absolutely excessive sounding.

 @92JZDJWDemocrat from Montana  answered…3yrs3Y

 @92HJX48 from Montana  answered…3yrs3Y

We should decrease our military but only by a small portion so that we are able to maintain it and improve upon it if necessary.

 @8YYFKYJ from Montana  answered…4yrs4Y

Decrease until deficit is drastically reduced and then maintain current spending.

 @8YSV7ZNSocialist from Montana  answered…4yrs4Y

redistribute all the military equipment to the masses so that we can overtake a tyrannical government if needed.

 @8YN34LV from Montana  answered…4yrs4Y

The government should decrease military spending but still have enough spending to maintain some equipment and maintain soldiers, however it does not have to have most of the spending going towards new gear or new weapons when most of it is not needed nor us having the right technology to constantly make it.

 @8YLSMFWAmerican from Montana  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8Y9BFL6 from Montana  answered…4yrs4Y

Pentagon spending is rife with waste and fraud. Fix corruption, and spending increases won't be entirely necessary.

 @8X9BV2JPeace and Freedom from Montana  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes the government should increase military spending but the increase shouldn't come off of taxes but a secondary source

 @8W7RY4N from Montana  answered…4yrs4Y

They should be smarter and more careful on what they are spending the money on and only spending it on essentials.

We have thr stongest military for a reason, but cutting back on spending a tad will not hurt us. it woluld help put money in other areas, like healthcare and education.

 @8RJM8K8Women’s Equality from Montana  answered…5yrs5Y

increase but only untill everything is running with just the right amount of funding

 @8RJLZDJ from Montana  answered…5yrs5Y

They should send money that they need but not a lot because spending to much money o war could make us lower on supplies and money just to win with way better equiptment

 @8QKY39G from Montana  answered…5yrs5Y

The US should make the other powers in NATO pay for their own military protection instead of relying on America

Decrease, and the money should be used for other programs like education

 @8P3K4ZMGreen from Montana  answered…5yrs5Y

It is important to have the proper amount of military dollars and troops trained and available when needed by our county. Budgeting according to debt etc is crucial but also depends on the current world affairs.

 @8NPBNZ2 from Montana  answered…5yrs5Y

 @8NBY4QS from Montana  answered…5yrs5Y

 @8N7XYVK from Montana  answered…5yrs5Y

I believe it is all situational. At certain times it wouldn't hurt to decrease the amount spent.

 @8MNJY9Y from Montana  answered…5yrs5Y

Depending on the situation or what is needed it should be increased. Other wise the amount it has now is good.

 @8MMB6X6 from Montana  answered…5yrs5Y

neither, use the amount at hand for better purposes and if absolutly needed increse, for example war.

 @8M9JFXF from Montana  answered…5yrs5Y

Decrease, but the government should stop requiring the military to spend all the money that they are given and allow them to save some of it

 @8M3BNDQ from Montana  answered…5yrs5Y

 @8LGB6YF from Montana  answered…5yrs5Y

 @8KT5694 from Montana  answered…5yrs5Y

if the military finds that they should, we should try and keep it low but high enough where they can still get by.

 @8JPTGNQ from Montana  answered…5yrs5Y

 @8J9TMSH from Montana  answered…5yrs5Y

Leave it as is but reduce the fraud and gouging in military spending. Should be overseen by a legit outside group.

 @8HRXV7G from Montana  answered…5yrs5Y

Decrease, and add more transparency so that they are accountable to taxpayers for the money they do spend.
