After the March 22nd terrorist attacks in Belgium, Republican U.S. Presidential Candidate Ted Cruz said law enforcement should be empowered to “patrol and secure Muslim neighborhoods before they become radicalized.” In defending the plan, Cruz cited former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg for his aggressive policing efforts, including the alleged targeting of Muslim neighborhoods for surveillance. Current New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio and NYPD commissioner Bill Bratton held a press conference where they criticized Cruz’s proposal as “incendiary” and “foolish.”

Not if these Muslims are legal citizens. Extensive background checks go into the process of becoming a citizen. If they have reached that status, they deserve the same privacy as any other American neighborhood. Illegals regardless of religious affiliation should be the bigger concern.
@9HLGDR4Independent 2yrs2Y
No. There should be a 50% reduction of ALL police forces across the country. The USA is not a POLICE STATE, which it has become in the past few decades.
@9BQ4W5YIndependent2yrs2Y
Yes, but only where data proves such neighbourhoods have a higher proportion of crime
@93KC4QLIndependent3yrs3Y
Yes, to better protect Muslims from domestic terrorists.
@93K7TKKIndependent3yrs3Y
To protect them? From what?
@92M8KNCIndependent3yrs3Y
It depends of the crime level in the neighborhood.
@8YXS5STIndependent4yrs4Y
Yes, and increase surveillance on high crime neighborhoods
@8WMGH3ZIndependent4yrs4Y
Only if there is reason to believe there is potential domestic terrorism and should be the same for right wing extremists groups
@8QSXDKGIndependent5yrs5Y
Yes, until the frequency of terrorist attacks by Muslim extremists decrease. It is not unconstitutional or racist to monitor a group of people that have a high likelihood of violent crime or terrorism. In fact, training the police force and community to be involved and incentivised to root out this problem is beneficial to all humanity. Period.
@8PYHC94Independent5yrs5Y
There shouldn't be "Muslim" neighbourhoods to begin with.
@8PBP2V8Independent5yrs5Y
No, doing this would be racist, and unconstitutional, instead should be based off the crime rates of the areas.
@8P3FVMLIndependent5yrs5Y
No, but police should increase surveillance and patrol of all high crime neighborhoods regardless of race or religion.
@8MZ592JIndependent5yrs5Y
not unless they are appropriatly increasing such in EVERY SINGLE OTHER neighborhood as well. ALL LIVES matter
@8MSGWJDIndependent5yrs5Y
Only if the know for sure they are performing illegal activities or planinning on performing an illegal activity or threat.
@8M8TRK6Independent5yrs5Y
Deport all Muslims and Outlaw Islam.
@8LKWBZ8Independent5yrs5Y
It would be good if they can actually increase surveillance and patrol in every zone that is considered dangerous.
@8G4HGHWIndependent5yrs5Y
No, and abolish surveillance
@8DYMTB8Independent5yrs5Y
Increase surveillance decrease patrol
@8DFL34CIndependent5yrs5Y
I'd say this should be a combination of "No, this decision should be based on crime rates instead of race or religion" and "No, but police should increase surveillance and patrol of all high crime neighborhoods"
@CharCharIndependent5yrs5Y
No we treat them like any other person in America, there has to be probable cause or provable relations to crime/ any given relation that may be connected to another individual convicted of a crime.
@8D4X28CIndependent5yrs5Y
Only if their is a good reason to. Evidence to back a surveillance
@8CRMFP4Independent5yrs5Y
No, and what is up with these racist questions?
@9CBXZ6VIndependent2yrs2Y
No, unless there is evidence of radicalizion
@9B5DM8PIndependent3yrs3Y
Lol. There are no Muslim neighborhoods.
@9B2XMJNIndependent3yrs3Y
Not just Muslim neighborhoods and if they were to do so it shouldn't be based off of religious belifes and/or ethnic backgrounds
@99NLRYPIndependent3yrs3Y
Yes, and increase surveillance and patrol of all high-crime neighborhoods
@99BWQVNIndependent3yrs3Y
Yes if there is a good reasons for it.
@97WW86GIndependent3yrs3Y
This should be up to the local Muslim neighborhoods to decide. That being said, more needs to be done from both Muslim and white Christian neighborhoods to combat extremism by reforming their literature and teachings. Local police presence should be an indirect litmus test as to the community's effectiveness, given how police are often the symptom of a problem, not the cause.
@97WG697Independent3yrs3Y
Yes, targeting Muslims is not the way to go. And yes, this decision should be based on crime rates instead of race or religion
@8Y7LZQSIndependent4yrs4Y
Only if there is evidence of criminal activity in those neighborhoods.
@8GC6BVSIndependent5yrs5Y
Police should not have the job to be "watchers" of neighborhoods, especially due to skin color or ethnicity (racism). We need to instead invest more into mental illness and rehabilitation public services instead of putting these responsibilities on cops to do.
@92TZ94XIndependent3yrs3Y
If they have a troubling past then yes but if they havent done anything wrong then no they shouldnt
