Yes, housing is a basic right that should be affordable to anyone

 @ISIDEWITHDiscuss this answer...5mos5MO

Yes and also ban corporate and foreign investors from purchasing residential real estate

 @ISIDEWITHDiscuss this answer...5mos5MO

No, reform zoning laws to increase housing supply instead

 @9RVQ9KWIndependent from California  answered…1yr1Y

Housing should already be affordable regardless. There shouldn't be special incentives just to make living affordable,

 @9SXVZP4Republican from California  answered…1yr1Y

Big corporations should be regulated by rules and policies from buying and selling homes, which makes housing more expensive.

 @ISIDEWITHasked…1yr1Y

Have you ever thought about how housing affordability might influence a person’s mental health or well-being?

 @9WVWGM8  from Texas  answered…11mos11MO

If someone is stressed about finances it might make their mental health worse.

 @9XSGQ35 from Idaho  answered…11mos11MO

No, most housing affordability is a function of government subsidization driving up the cost of residences, and people's unwillingness to live uncomfortably.

 @9WXC4HP from Texas  answered…11mos11MO

If a person is stressing about finances, then their mental health might get worse.

 @9TRWRGQ  from Florida  answered…12mos12MO

Affordable housing would allow families to be able to afford to pay rent without worrying about paying their other bills and not having enough to feed their children. This causes a lot of stress and anxiety on most people and takes a toll on the overall health of a person.

 @9L4Z23BIndependent  from Pennsylvania  answered…1yr1Y

No, local governments and zoning boards should reform zoning laws to allow higher density building and to help construct more housing than there is demand

 @9ZNL4BHGreen from Texas  answered…10mos10MO

Yes, but the government should focus on renovating unused buildings that are currently wasting valuable space in our cities

 @9L4Z23BIndependent  from Pennsylvania  answered…1yr1Y

No, the government should relax zoning laws to encourage increasing housing supply and stabilize rent

 @9VYDQRC from Washington  answered…11mos11MO

Yes, but they should focus first on incentivizing better wages, parental benefits, and healthcare so that more citizens can afford their rent or mortgage without the need for special housing.

 @9TDXT2Y  from Washington  answered…1yr1Y

Yes, the government should incentivize the construction of affordable housing to help ensure that everyone has access to safe and affordable living conditions.

 @9W6VFM3 from Connecticut  answered…11mos11MO

The government should incentivize the construction of affordable housing and additionally should build social housing.

 @9RPRD7T from Missouri  answered…1yr1Y

Yes, the government should incentivize the construction of more housing in general, not just affordable housing.

 @B33SHXDConstitution from Kentucky  answered…7mos7MO

No, ban corporate and foreign investors from purchasing residential real estate and capitalize the industry

 @B3GDS3V from Arkansas  answered…7mos7MO

Yes, but lower regulation instead of incentives or any financial assistance unless seen as necessary

 @9X4VDKW from Wisconsin  answered…11mos11MO

No, this is too broad and these houses can still be overpriced while developers get cuts by writing these houses off as Low Income

 @9WDTKJ8 from Illinois  answered…11mos11MO

There also needs to be addressing of underlying issues so that it doesn't impact the ability for those to sustain.

 @9TT5ZMT from North Carolina  answered…12mos12MO

Yes but the affordable housing should be well-made! People shouldn’t have to be forced to accept sub-standard housing.

 @9SZ4ZWS from New York  answered…1yr1Y

Yes, but it should only be used to get oneself on their feet. It should not be used as a permanent residence for the rest of one's life, that is until there is enough to support that.

 @9SBYVSYDemocrat from Indiana  answered…1yr1Y

Yes, but we shouldn’t build too much and destroy nature, build homes in designated areas, and have more protection for nature

 @9RSTXRMIndependent  from Washington  answered…1yr1Y

Yes, but have better systems of accountability for landlord/tenant laws so those in lower income housing are not exploited by corrupt management or held hostage by predatory leases.

 @B73YG4F from Alabama  answered…12hrs12H

Yes, for middle income families since there don't usually qualify for subsidized housing and are having problems affording housing.

 @B73RMPR from Massachusetts  answered…22hrs22H

Yes, and not just projects, complexes, or apartments for renting, but houses for purchase, including rent-to-buy; housing is a basic right that anyone and ever should be able to afford, and also ban corporate and foreign investors from purchasing residential real estate.

 @B733QB9 from Texas  answered…2 days2D

Yes, but the state should build and provide the housing, rather than on the whim of private developers that only care about profit

 @B72XPZQ from Illinois  answered…2 days2D

No. People should be able to make or buy their own houses and get rid of abandon buildings to build houses

 @B729KS7 from New Jersey  answered…3 days3D

Ban corporate and foreign investors, and raise the minimum wage so people are actually able to afford housing.

 @B6ZHWCHWomen’s Equality from Nevada  answered…4 days4D

They should do their best to upkeep the economy so that housing prices don't increase so drastically.

 @B6ZFPJDLibertarian from South Carolina  answered…4 days4D

Yes, I think it could be good. People could take advantage of it really easy and make it hurt the tax payers.

 @B6ZDNZV from Rhode Island  answered…4 days4D

reform zoning laws to increase housing supply instead and also ban corporate and foreign investors from purchasing residential real estate

 @B6YX4HV from Washington  answered…4 days4D

No, reform zoning laws and ban corporate and foreign investors from purchasing residential real estate

 @B6YSD35 from Idaho  answered…5 days5D

I have mixed opinions on this question, so I'd say I'd need further education on this topic to answer.

 @B6YP2GJ from Michigan  answered…5 days5D

There are too many houses being built. Instead stop building unneeded housing for millions and give that housing supplies to people in need. Reuse homes.

 @B6YN6KS from New York  answered…5 days5D

I think the government should incentivize not only affordable housing but also use the land to put houses.

 @B6YB9KQRepublican from Utah  answered…5 days5D

Yes we should be able to buy homes without investors and corporations bidding homes at a higher price than us.

 @B6XTYKQRepublican from Ohio  answered…6 days6D

The more houses built, the more people milking it. This will also decrease the amount of farm land hurting farmers.

 @B6XFQVLRepublican from Florida  answered…6 days6D

No, I believe we need more private support over government support when it comes to caring for low income individuals.

 @B6X68Q7Republican from Texas  answered…7 days7D

I think that the people who cant afford places to live are not contributing enough and/or want to leech off others cause it isn't hard to get an affordable place to stay if you truly want one.

 @B6X2J6Q from California  answered…7 days7D

I believe that there should be some efforts to create affordable housing but not enough to where every apartment or condo is affordable.

 @B6WL5SH from Florida  answered…1wk1W

The government should create public housing programs with livable home run by government agencies or nonprofits.

 @B6WK2YK from Ohio  answered…1wk1W

Regulate how houses can be priced and limit the number of residential properties an individual or organization can own.

 @B6W2FK4  from Colorado  answered…1wk1W

No, there is no "hosing shortage." What we must do to provide an opportunity for Americans to purchase a home is reform zoning laws, abolish property taxes, and ban corporate and foreign investors from buying, renting and owning residential real estate. In conjunction, we must also root out corruption and greed within real estate, as well as having far lower interest rates in this nation. One more factor to increase housing availability and affordability would be to deport every single illegal alien and encourage remigration for all foreign born residents, this will free up at minimum, tens of millions of homes.

 @B6VZLP8 from North Carolina  answered…1wk1W

Yes, but only in certain areas. These areas should benefit the city and the low income population. The State, or local municipality should have the authority to make this decision.

 @B6VMMM7Independent from Michigan  answered…1wk1W

we already have many houses and all the rich bought the land or houses up so those selfish rich and politicians should fix up the houses and sell them back for not an insane price.

 @B6VG7T7 from South Carolina  answered…1wk1W

Housing should be available to those of low to middle income, however, there should not be tax breaks for the developers, leaving the taxpayers to pay for extra costs such as expanding the roads.

 @B6VF9XKfrom Northern Mariana Islands  answered…1wk1W

Yes incentivize private bussiness to build housing but also change zoning laws to allow more building in intercities

 @B6V9QB9 from North Carolina  answered…2wks2W

Make it in the middle, taxes could increase by a bit to make up for the construction of affordable housing

 @B6V9G8BIndependent from Massachusetts  answered…2wks2W

Yes, but only if they aren't going to use too much undeveloped land so that wildlife is left undisturbed.

 @B6V57ZP from North Carolina  answered…2wks2W

No, the lower the cost of housing, the cheaper the materials used and the more dangerous the home becomes

 @B6V3GQK from Minnesota  answered…2wks2W

No, reform zoning laws to increase the presence of mixed use, and higher density developments in urban areas

 @B6TWYZRProgressive from Pennsylvania  answered…2wks2W

I think they should incentivise employment opportunities instead of spending money building projects that will just group certain people together.

 @B6TRNNM from Massachusetts  answered…2wks2W

Yes, but make sure that not too much undeveloped land is being used. Wildlife and habitats are important.

 @B6T84FW from Mississippi  answered…2wks2W

No, reform zoning laws to increase the housing supply while incentivizing the development of new housing and ban corporate investors from purchasing residential real estate.

 @B6T7T8Y from Texas  answered…2wks2W

No. "Affordable Housing" is a scam nowadays. The markets artificially increase the price of rents, making normal income people spend much more than they want to on rent, and makes low income people still spent a large portion of their income on rent. Large companies should not be allowed to buy single family homes at all. That is causing more stress on the market than there not being enough "affordable housing". The houses that are on the market now could be "affordable housing" if there were more supply, but not from artificially just adding more homes.

 @B6T2CJ9  from Pennsylvania  answered…2wks2W

Yes, but only in areas that need it and the gov will not be paying for crazy expensive houses, just a basic home.

 @B6SZVQ8 from Maryland  answered…2wks2W

There should be a method to affordable housing implemented that doesn't heavily harm the environment.

 @B6SNRDH from Pennsylvania  answered…2wks2W

I believe that affordable housing could also end up causing innovation of more effective house building methods, like how some companies can 3D-print a stable house.

 @B6RXMMY  from Wisconsin  answered…2wks2W

Make the cost of building materials cost less by 20% and ban foreign countries that don't align with the U.S like China

 @B6Q9MGJ from Pennsylvania  answered…2wks2W

No, bring back more jobs, factories, and lower the interest rates so younger people can afford to buy a home and then there would not be a reason to have "affordable housing" because the market would determine that, not some politician

 @B6RV24XLibertarian from Minnesota  answered…2wks2W

Yes but the answers to choose from are flawed. Housing is not a right. Governments should not be required to change zoning laws if it is against the wishing of the citizens. While I think a budget should be made available for housing assistance If a person cannot afford to life in and area than they should move somewhere else.

 @B6RPWJQ from Oklahoma  answered…2wks2W

Put a limit on the AUM on huge companies buying up single family homes. limit it to a number around 200,000,000.

 @B6RPQP5 from Florida  answered…2wks2W

This should be determined on a state or local government basis based on the specific situation. Some locations are better suited for zoning reformation others need construction and additional development, some need programs that incentives more reasonable rent prices, and some need to discourage national/international corporate and foreign investors from purchasing residential real estate and encourage local residential ownership.

 @B6RN6VLIndependent from Maryland  answered…2wks2W

I think that housing should be more affordable but the government needs to use the 16 million homes and housing areas that are currently empty when re-locating helped homeless and federal workers.

 @B6RJTY2 from Kansas  answered…2wks2W

Yes, but in a form of horizontal expansion. Instead of building outward, harming the environment, build up as a form of smart urbanization.

 @B6RB4Y7 from Georgia  answered…2wks2W

Yes, housing is a basic right everyone should have but they also need to reform zoning laws and keep corporate and foreign investors from buying up all the "affordable" residential real estate.

 @B6R7SL3 from California  answered…2wks2W

no, housing is basically a right the goverment should build cheap housing and give it to the homeless

 @B6QRVV2 from Tennessee  answered…3wks3W

it would not be fair if poor people and homeless people get a house when they never worked a day in their life.

 @B6QQWV9 from Michigan  answered…3wks3W

Yes, but make sure that the affordable housing has the proper safety standards and is inspected appropriately

 @B6QPP82 from California  answered…3wks3W

No, Reform zoning laws to increase housing supply and ban corporate and foreign investors from purchasing residential real estate.

 @B6QM3HL from Tennessee  answered…3wks3W

Yes, but at a limited stance. A center focus for affordable single family housing units. This will help reinforce the ideas of the nuclear family, which studies show more positive outcomes for the children in these types of households.

 @B6Q4XMT from North Carolina  answered…3wks3W

No, instead a land value tax should replace property taxes increasing the incentive to build housing and reducing property speculation.

 @B6PZBNQCommunist from North Carolina  answered…3wks3W

Yes, and build denser housing and reform zoning laws, housing is a basic right that should be accessible to everyone.

 @B6PWXN5 from Illinois  answered…3wks3W

Yes, but there should be strict laws on the funding process for the affordable housing construction programs.

 @B6PWSRW from Texas  answered…3wks3W

Yes, but the government should be building these developments itself, not on the will of real estate developers

 @B6PV5VB from Georgia  answered…3wks3W

seeing all the construction for "affordable" housing here makes me think it's a waste of our money being spended by the government. The housing isn't at affordable prices.

 @B6PSBFQ from Indiana  answered…3wks3W

No. There is already plenty of housing. Ban corporate and foreign investor from purchasing the real estate, and place a cap on purchases of residential real estate so that houses don't just sit empty when they could be occupied.

 @B6PS78B from Minnesota  answered…3wks3W

No. We should stop building new housing and shift our focus toward rehabbing existing housing and buildings.

 @B6PDFNH from Indiana  answered…3wks3W

Yes, and also incentivize the creation of durable housing and research related to that sector in addition to incentivizing research in general.

 @B6PBCB5 from Indiana  answered…3wks3W

Yes, and regulate the expansion of suburbs into rural land along with regulating pricing of housing (suburbs are too expensive in some areas)

 @B6P9ZJW from Illinois  answered…3wks3W

Decrease the pricing of building materials and ban any foreign Countries that mostly do not aline with our Ideals.

 @B6P7955 from Missouri  answered…3wks3W

NO, instead stop people from owning too many airbnb's as it takes actual housing away from people. A company can own things like trailer parks or apartments but using a house to make money off of temporary stay takes houses away and building more houses takes away animals environments.

 @B6P3JQV from Texas  answered…3wks3W

Yes, but make it only short-term rentals, and make it so that people can, and have to get a job after a set period, and maintain that position for a set period.

 @B6NZGXVanswered…3wks3W

The government should incentivize affordable housing but not allow too many developments in some areas.

 @B6NZ3G4Independent from Indiana  answered…3wks3W

Neither, the construction of affordable housing is already there, but the demand is too large to get those affordable housing

 @B6NLGW7No Labels from Georgia  answered…3wks3W

Yes, but be aware that land is shaped for a reason. With increased flooding we need to be careful. land needs to also be set aside for wildlife

 @B6NKXJ8 from California  answered…3wks3W

I think yes it is a basic right and should be made affordable for others but at certain costs , if the government is offering help to people so they can have housing they should do a little bit of a background check so nothing fires back on them. Most importantly if the people have children then housing should be made possible for that family.

 @B6MKPHK from Georgia  answered…4wks4W

I believe that there should be a reform of how our housing construction is carried out with an emphasis on preserving the natural resources that are dwindling and to stop encroaching upon our forest and other wildlife heavy areas. I also believe corporate and foreign investors should be block from purchasing residential real estate and there should be a cap on how many homes one entity can own ie.: rental properties, condos, apartment buildings, and such.

 @B6MJFZQ from Ohio  answered…4wks4W

yes and no. yes because i feel like housing should be more then affordable for the people that need it. but also no beacuse the peopl that owne the house rather its the goverenment or just someone that sells houses

 @B6MF37G from Kansas  answered…4wks4W

to the degree that a hard working house hold should be affordable enough for a lower to middle class family

 @B6MDZZJ from Kansas  answered…4wks4W

yes, housing should be available and affordable to people who work and are "functioning" members of society

 @B6M4TCP from California  answered…4wks4W

The cost of living in an area can depend on how much money its people make on average. If we take the example of affluent areas, the government cannot implement this since the housing in said affluent regions would be considered "affordable" to most of its residents. They can, however, promote some real estate companies to also make affordable housing, along with the more high-end types that the majority find to be affordable.

 @B6LLW4Y from Iowa  answered…4wks4W

No, an egalitarian community model with no government should make housing for its fellow inhabitants.

 @B6LBC95 from Nebraska  answered…4wks4W

Bring back law and order. Build asylums that can offer help and hope to drug addicts and the mentally ill.

 @B6KF78V from Illinois  answered…4wks4W

kinda both Yes, housing is a basic right that should be affordable to anyone and No, reform zoning laws to increase housing supply instead

 @B6KDHGP from Idaho  answered…1mo1MO

I think it should be affordable, but it's not a right, it's a privilege. they should still be worked towards
