Its depends on the severity of the situation like invasion from foreign countries should not have to be authorized but if it something that does not affect the united states directly as in people are in danger and in fear everyday then congress should have to approve it because the president might make a bras decision that might have bad consequences for the U.S.A.

When the action is necessary to prevent an imminent threat yes the president should be able to authorize military force; however, Congress should be notified afterwards.
