If teachers are not allowed to carry guns at school, then how do you expect kids to be kept safe? Our high school currently only has two School resource Officers, to cover over 1000 students. With two guns, there is not much that they can do if multiple people were to invade the school and start killing people. With 10+ guns throughout the school, students would be safer.

 @9G86GX8  from Illinois  disagreed…3yrs3Y

The armed teacher protocol would introduce firearms into classrooms yes but they would be secured in the teachers person at all times. The teachers would have to undergo training to properly handle weapon systems though. With this training they would be able to respond to emergency situations much easier than throwing books and staplers at someone carrying a firearm.

 @9GY7QLW  from California  disagreed…3yrs3Y

Shooters will always go where it is safest for them. A classroom with a trained armed teacher is the last place they’ll go.

 @B9G4L7B  from North Carolina  disagreed…5mos5MO

Even the best school security measures, do not guarantee instant intervention. In many shootings, police arrive minutes after the attack begins, yet most casualties occur in the first few minutes. A trained, armed teacher already on site can interrupt or stop an attacker before mass harm occurs, potentially saving lives.

 @B89PJ8S  from Texas  disagreed…7mos7MO

i think that teachers can choose and they don''t need a firearm but something like a taser or military grade pepper spray could save countless lives

 Deleteddisagreed…3yrs3Y

I believe that allowing trained teachers to carry firearms can enhance school security. It's important to prioritize the safety of our children, and armed teachers can provide a rapid response in the event of a school shooting, which could save a lot of lives. However, it's crucial to ensure that arming teachers remains an effective option so comprehensive training programs must be in place to address concerns about accidents or misuse of firearms.

 @B6RYY57Independent  from New York  disagreed…9mos9MO

If guns kill children more than anything nowadays, wouldn't you want someone who is armed and professionally trained to be with the kids, instead of waiting for law enforcement, like at Uvalde?

 @B86MXS5Republican  from Missouri  disagreed…7mos7MO

Teachers should be armed in case an armed intruder poses a threat to their students, so they can protect their students.

 @B9RWKK4  from California  disagreed…4mos4MO

Teachers are very dedicated to becoming teachers with extensive background checking when hired. They have an obligation to educate and protect students and there are many who would be more than qualified and ready and able minded to be armed in the case of an emergency where it’s necessary to protect students and faculty members.

 @9FYGXH9Libertarian  from California  disagreed…3yrs3Y

As long as they’re adequately trained in the use of firearms, having staff members be armed in the case of a school shooter enter the premises could immediately stop the killing of so many children

 @9G5LCSL from North Carolina  disagreed…3yrs3Y

How can they defend their students and themselves from active shooters, given that they have received classroom and range safety training, and passed all requirements to possess and fire a firearm?

 Removed by authordisagreed…3yrs3Y

The right to defend the life of ourselves and others. Standing our ground and not backing down in the face of evil.

 @9FZC6XB from California  disagreed…3yrs3Y

Although it won't fully stop mass shootings it will save lives in instances like the Robb Elementary School shooting, where the shooter enters classrooms. Provided that the armed teachers are trained, have a background check, and keep the firearm locked up when it is not on them.

 @BCVFY6G  from Oregon  disagreed…1mo1MO

I think they should most definitely carry guns in school because imagine a school shooting happens what are they gonna do? run at the shooter? lock the door? such a dumb question. if a teacher doesn't have a gun in the class to protect the children from a school shooter what are they gonna do when the shooter reaches the classroom NOTHING the odds of a teacher fighting off a shooter and winning are VERY low. I think if teachers were able to carry guns in school it would save a LOT of lives if a shooting were to happen.

  @GenericSocBert  from Pennsylvania  disagreed…2mos2MO

If we allow armed security guards to be present to stop threats, why can’t we do the same with teachers? Not always will a school have a security guard present.

 @9FYB4VD  from Texas  disagreed…3yrs3Y

The controversy is understandable. However, proposing armed teachers does not mean every teacher should be armed. It should be a strict system in which the person must be trained and checked on mentally every couple of months. This teacher should also be anonymous.

 @BCNGNXT  from Indiana  disagreed…2mos2MO

If certain teachers go through extensive training to carry a firearm, they would be able to act quickly to neutralize threats in a school or protect kids inside their classroom.

 @B8ZFPT4  from Iowa  disagreed…6mos6MO

What happens if the school doesn't have a guard, or the guard is on the other end of the school, and the class has no choice but to hide in the classroom. Would it not be beneficial for the teacher to have an opportunity to stop the shooter before they get a chance to harm someone else?

 @B7KHZ8V  from California  disagreed…8mos8MO

There needs to be at least one armed staff member who is trained to use a firearm in case of an event of an armed intruder entering the campus.

 @9FVTCK4Democrat from Nebraska  disagreed…3yrs3Y

Look back on previous events. If there had been an armed teacher, granted with proper gun safety and drill training, those teachers could’ve protect not just their class, but all the students in the school.

 @9H4SGSGRepublican  from Pennsylvania  disagreed…3yrs3Y

They should allow teachers to conceal a fire arm with out the know of students for the protection of other staff and students

 @B7N3X3H from Kansas  disagreed…8mos8MO

Risks of school shootings need to be countered with equal defense. School's have guards with pepper spray and that's alright. Students are also trained to defend themselves with chairs, and that won't help them stop a bullet.

 @B8R8XVM  from Oklahoma  disagreed…6mos6MO

The teachers being armed can be helpful, but it could also be bad due to others knowing where the weapon is located and having a malicious intent, and using it on others.

 @99YVBLCRepublican  from Texas  disagreed…5mos5MO

Properly teaching, and arming teachers, allows for another line of defense for our students, and ensures that if a school shooter event occurred, the casualties will be much lower than before.

 @B94TV5C  from New York  disagreed…5mos5MO

Every American should be armed. Not out of self defense, but out of principle. It is our constitutional duty to carry a firearm. Just as it is to the Freedom of Speech

 @9GS4M63Republican from Texas  disagreed…3yrs3Y

Without teachers being armed the death toll rises, a trained teacher with a gun could stop the shooter before he induces harm.

 @9GSVM6F from North Carolina  disagreed…3yrs3Y

A man with a gun in a school is in an extreme position of power to kill defenseless children for the future of the nation, Should we really just allow the shooter to go on a rampage without the risk of being shot themselves as soon as they step into the school with a weapon.

 @9GTGKXC from Ohio  disagreed…3yrs3Y

What if your kid was in a school shooting type situation. Would you want an adult in charge able to protect your child.

 @9FSZZ7RVeteran from New Jersey  disagreed…3yrs3Y

If the event of a school shooting happens the teachers should be armed and ready to neutralize any possible threats the the future of America's kids.

 @9GSFYGP from Idaho  disagreed…3yrs3Y

If teachers want and they qualify to carry they should be able to. We live in America and we have the right to bear arms against terrorists foreign and domestic and that includes school shooters teachers are the line of force between them and students.

 @9GSM9QH from Wisconsin  disagreed…3yrs3Y

I believe as long as they are trusted and have proper training and a good mental stability then it should be okay as long as it’s like one or so.

 @9H4PYYJ from Michigan  disagreed…3yrs3Y

What if the threat gets into the building or room, what then? the teacher should be able to protect more than just a defense

 @9GW84S4 from Colorado  disagreed…3yrs3Y

It would be much safer if a threat came to the school if there were safe people in the school to use fire arms.

 @9GRV2KK from California  disagreed…3yrs3Y

Teachers must have a firearm to protect students from any school shootings or attacks, but must keep it in a secure location so no student can access.

 @9GQQDY2 from North Carolina  disagreed…3yrs3Y

School shootings are a reality in this country. It is a fear that teachers, students, and parents all have about going to school. Having someone there who is armed and the weapon is secure, would help increase the safety of the students and staff.

 @9GVTXCW from Ohio  disagreed…3yrs3Y

If you get put in a dangerous situation and their is no help near as in a security guard or officer then I beileve a teacher should be able to protect the kids in that room

 @9H2LCNP from Nevada  disagreed…3yrs3Y

Teachers could be able to protect students against shooters as more school shooters are killing people, at least someone would be able to remove the threat in the time it takes the police to show up.

 @9GZLBDK from California  disagreed…3yrs3Y

Teacher could not have it viable or around students and not have it loaded unless you need to load the weapon

 @9GWZKY3 from North Carolina  disagreed…3yrs3Y

They can defend their students when things go wrong and can at least be able to save life’s in possible, especially if they can be trained.

 @9GVGJ32 from New Mexico  disagreed…3yrs3Y

Kids need to feel and be safe, if there's a school shooter that comes in, the teachers would be capable to defend themselves and the students.

 @9GQMY6H from Texas  disagreed…3yrs3Y

Teachers should have Firearms because if a shooter enters a school and the police don't respond in a timely manner. A teacher can stop a shooter probably faster if he or she plans right.

 @9GTRLN3 from Oregon  disagreed…3yrs3Y

Having an armed teacher that has their firearm concealed may help limit the damage an active shooter can cause and allow a responsible citizen to defend themselves and their students instead of taking a knife to a gun fight.

 @9H4RJN4 from North Carolina  disagreed…3yrs3Y

If there is a school shooting and the threat comes into a classroom the teacher should be to defend herself/himself and the students in the room.

 @9GX7SN9 from Maine  disagreed…3yrs3Y

If the teachers are armed, then it could easily nearly or completely end school shootings, as it would mean that even if the majority are unarmed, there is still someone there who can stop the shooter.

 @9H3PJ5K from Texas  disagreed…3yrs3Y

If you don’t want children protected then you are the problem. Guns don’t kill people, people kill people.

 @9H388V7 from South Carolina  disagreed…3yrs3Y

I think teachers should be armed, as long as they are educated and know how to use wepons and know the safety.

 @B954WX9 from Missouri  disagreed…5mos5MO

School shootings are very common in the United States and teachers should have a way to defend themselves and students

 @9H4LB4Yfrom Maine  disagreed…3yrs3Y

Teachers, who are qualified and proven to not be a safety risk, with often mental health checks, should be allowed to carry guns in order to protect against school shooters

 @9GZD33M from Iowa  disagreed…3yrs3Y

I think that Teachers should have fire Armes more of the fact to protect the students from possible school shooters, and to save more generations to come. But I do think teachers should take 2 more years of teaching about gun safety and understanding that guns are not the dagger people are.

 @9GW8TCLIndependent from Ohio  disagreed…3yrs3Y

If teachers are armed it will deter potential shooters and if there is a shooting well trained teachers will be able to stop the threat

 @9GRWYQMRepublican from Oklahoma  disagreed…3yrs3Y

I think that arming the teachers can be one of the best ways to keep students safe. There would be far less attacks on public schools if there was more protection.

 @9GR4XQD from Idaho  disagreed…3yrs3Y

A harvard study showed that more guns present in a society lead to less crime. Look at the town of kennesaw georgia in 1989, when they required the head of household to have a firearm, household bulglaries went down. Schools are a target of shootings because of the fact that it is 1. a gun free zone and 2. schools and society arent doing enough to promote the mental health and wellbeing of people, ESPECIALLY young men. If teachers can be properly trained and armed, shooters can be discouraged and prevented from causing major tragedies.

 @9GR26T3Libertarian from Texas  disagreed…3yrs3Y

If school shootings keep going on psychologically cleared teachers need to receive firearm training to protect the kids

 @9H82S5C from Texas  disagreed…3yrs3Y

only teachers who have proper training and absolutely functional mental health should be able to carry including teachers of military background to protect our schools and children from possible harm.

 @9GZZRH5 from Michigan  disagreed…3yrs3Y

I would allow teachers who choose to be trained as reserve police officers and allow the training to count as professional development. Teachers would have to pass the training and recieve certification. That way, armed law enforcement could be present in every school in America every minute of the school day.

 @9GV39YK from Oklahoma  disagreed…3yrs3Y

The death toll in shootings would majorly go down if teachers were given effective means to fight back.

 @9GTX37TRepublican from Pennsylvania  disagreed…3yrs3Y

If teachers have a clear background check and clear mental health check, they should be able to obtain a firearm in case of an emergency.

 @9GT6WNF from Utah  disagreed…3yrs3Y

as long as they meet the requirements and training they should be allowed to carry as they should be able too, to protect the children or students they are in charge of

 @9GT25LZdisagreed…3yrs3Y

in case someone does break in the teacher with experience should be able to open fire if every kid is out of the way.

 @9GSN785 from North Carolina  disagreed…3yrs3Y

With students simply acknowledging teachers are armed, there will be less chance of a mass shooting occurring in the first place, and if one does occur, it can quickly be responded to.

 @9FT7WFS from California  disagreed…3yrs3Y

In America, gun violence is a big problem. Many students and teachers live in fear of a school shooting. Allowing teachers to be armed won't decrease the rates of gun violence but It would cause a decrease in the number of deaths. Armed guards can disarm or disable the shooter and help prevent loss of life.

 @9FSP37SIndependence from Texas  disagreed…3yrs3Y

I believe that at least 1 trained teacher or security guard should be armed in the case of a school shooting or even any danger that might be near to be potentially stopped.

 @9H7Y784 from Arkansas  disagreed…3yrs3Y

I've never seen a teacher start a school shooting or participate in one. To prevent harm from one, teachers and guards should be allowed to carry!

 @9H5H3PGRepublican from Washington  disagreed…3yrs3Y

in case of a school shooter, before police can get to the school, who will be able to protect against the shooter?

 @9GY87J9 from Texas  disagreed…3yrs3Y

You cannot regulate how people who are willing to hurt students and kill people will access firearms. Those who are willing to do this will not listen to laws and regulations. The best thing we can do to protect our students is to provide our teachers, people who are already vetted via the hiring process, with the proper means to protect their students and themselves. These teachers themselves have the rights provided to them by the 2nd amendment as well, and as such should not be prevented from carrying a firearm in what has proven to be a location of interest to those who wish to cause pain.

 @9GVXNQ8 from Texas  disagreed…3yrs3Y

Teachers should be armed because in case a situation arises when no law enforcement officers or outside help is available.

 @9FRNXP4 from Texas  disagreed…3yrs3Y

Teachers should be allowed to conceal carry under the proper training and background check, to help with protection of the students and themselves.

 @9GXK92Z from Maine  disagreed…3yrs3Y

Our teachers need to be armed but trained, they need to constantly have training to keep weapons on them at any moment, and adults need to be able to not only the children of the school but also their ownself. But adults with a weapon should have a serious background check.

 @9GV6DDW from Texas  disagreed…3yrs3Y

i think teachers need to have a fire arm in their desk area in case a shooting happens because i think if teachers have fire arms it can reduce killing in school shootings

 @9GWJCPLDemocrat from Connecticut  disagreed…3yrs3Y

I just think everyone should have a right to defend themselves as long as they’re in compliance with state concealed carry laws

 @9GTQCX6 from Washington  disagreed…3yrs3Y

Structurally, having an armed security guard makes more sense then having armed teachers as not all teacher would be comfortable having a firearm nor could they all afford one nor could they all be trusted to have one.

 @9GQMQKG from Idaho  disagreed…3yrs3Y

Having armed teachers, with proper training and certification, would be able to stop a school shooter before he takes more lives. We see this in Uvalde when it took law enforcement took over an hour to get inside the school, get inside the room, and apprehend the shooter. This could be the case with other school shootings too, while a shooter is trying to get as many victims as they can while law enforcement is on the way, there could be a teacher, or multiple armed and trained who will take down the shooter before he takes more victims.

 @9FRV8MW from Indiana  disagreed…3yrs3Y

The less precaution we take on mass shootings, the more it's going to happen. I see absolutely no problem with teachers being trained to shoot and carry a firearm out of reach of students.

 @9GRRTCB from Utah  disagreed…3yrs3Y

An armed teacher can protect the kids. An armed teacher could possibly stop a threat faster that an officer.

 @9FRTN8LRepublican from Texas  disagreed…3yrs3Y

The number of teachers that have background with handling weapons is greater than we think. We do not have enough resource and security officers in our schools.

 @9GRYYDG from Texas  disagreed…3yrs3Y

Teachers should be able to protect their kids. The students parents send them to school trusting the school and teachers to take care of their kids.

 @9GT6HHV from Georgia  disagreed…3yrs3Y

self defense. it should never be out and shown and it should only be used if there is an active shooter in the room

 @9GV7PS7Republican from California  disagreed…3yrs3Y

With at least several teachers/ security armed, school shooters would think more about coming into school with lethal protection

 @9GTVZBSdisagreed…3yrs3Y

I think the teachers of the US should have guns locked away near or under their desk. This is because school shootings happen a lot in the us and sometimes the police do not want to go in there, leaving the teachers and students stranded.

 @9FRZL72Peace and Freedom from Washington  disagreed…3yrs3Y

Police response time is to long. As well as the time it might take them to get inside the building. If we have an unknown trusted teacher who is already on the inside, trained, and willing to risk their lives then we should use them.

 @B8VB6HR from Georgia  disagreed…6mos6MO

I think it should be voluntary, but those that agree to it should have proper and ongoing firearms and terrorist attack training to be better equipped to protect our children.

 @B7NVQZFPeace and Freedom from Texas  disagreed…8mos8MO

When it comes down to it, there needs to be a line of defense when it comes to defending students in the case of a lock-down, and I believe there should be at least some sort of counter attack against it, not waiting for an attack like sitting ducks.

 @B9KPMPL from Idaho  disagreed…4mos4MO

Criminals do not follow laws. If we cannot trust them to follow laws, we need to trust our committed teachers to have the option to conceal carry to protect the lives of children. Rigorous training and certifications would be a valid first step, and it only needs to be optional with utmost privacy to ensure their protection.

 @B8754Z2 from Oregon  disagreed…7mos7MO

Teachers would have been able to stop the killings in many of the school massacres if they could have been armed, its a safeguard

 @B6X2XK9 from Texas  disagreed…9mos9MO

By allowing Teachers to carry a firearm in schools it could decrease the number of casualties in shootings by allowing teachers to quickly neutralize a threat.

 @9H4DQNJIndependent from North Carolina  disagreed…3yrs3Y

The right to defend oneself does not require permission, from other person, from the state, or from bureaucracy. Therefore, no teachers require permission to be armed. Whether it is the best option, that is to each person, on their own recognizance, whether they are better able to protect themselves or others while armed, or via other training and means.

 @9H462PF from Nebraska  disagreed…3yrs3Y

I’d rather have weapon qualified teachers with basic training on defense by the military or police than just wait for the police to arrive when everyone is already death on the floor.

 @9H3NTQB from North Dakota  disagreed…3yrs3Y

The armed teacher protocol would introduce firearms into schools yes, but they should obviously be trained on how to protect themselves and students in case of emergencies.

 @9H3MW5R from Utah  disagreed…3yrs3Y

The amount of school shootings in America these days I want the teachers to be able to defend themselves

 @9GYMBQN from Georgia  disagreed…3yrs3Y

if some teachers had weapons the likely hood of school shooters even walking into schools would drop dramatically. If shooters do walk in they will be shot almost immediately and will not have the oppertunity to shoot a lot of people.

 @9GX5FMX from Virginia  disagreed…3yrs3Y

Schools are an easy target for terrorism and violent events as there is little to no armed people in the building

 @9GG96GFRepublican from Wisconsin  disagreed…3yrs3Y

well in the event of a school shooting, I think that teacher's should be able to have the right to defend their students and protect themselves as well.

 @B9FTFNBNo Labels from Illinois  disagreed…5mos5MO

I think that teachers should have the right to arms during school hours due to threats of school shootings from many students. this would make a safe space for teachers and students and would make myself feel safer knowing my teachers have guns

 @B96YM5H from Pennsylvania  disagreed…5mos5MO

I feel that if we train teachers to use a gun properly and keep them in the class room we could have less school shootings

 @B7TWGK4  from Pennsylvania  disagreed…8mos8MO

There have been way more school shootings and guns killing children, so why not have teachers put in a training course for guns and have them throughout the school day in case of an emergency? Say there's been an intruder. Sitting in a dark room with all students crammed in a corner could not protect any of them. especially if there is a school shooter who attends that school, they already know the procedures and could have access to the others. So a teacher being armed could save many lives.

 @B7QN7NR from Utah  disagreed…8mos8MO

I'd much rather have someone in the room with a gun, and is responsible enough to use it, than just sit and wait to be killed in a school that I hate.

 @9H3JCK6 from Utah  disagreed…3yrs3Y

If we dont arm our teachers and harden our schools we are putting those people at risk, the big reason why they shoot up schools is because it is a vulnerable target, if we allow teachers to chose to carry the security of our schools will increase and alot less shootings will happen or at least be stopped sooner

 @9GYQWZ2Constitution from Maryland  disagreed…3yrs3Y

Children deserve to be protected. Armed teachers are the most readily available resource for defense and deterrence.

 @9GXZ6J8 from Illinois  disagreed…3yrs3Y

There is only one armed guard at schools. Either hire more armed security or allow the teachers to be armed in order to prevent more children's lives from being taken.

 @9FVBBNM from Colorado  disagreed…3yrs3Y

There have been 175 shootings from k-12 schools, and if teachers or guards at the school had a gun or two, many of these shootings may have caused fewer deaths. If one person is saved that is more than one reason why there should be some guns in school. The people in possession of these guns should be checked and should have extensive training.
