Libertarian

Libertarianism is a political philosophy that upholds liberty as a core principle. Libertarians seek to maximize political freedom and autonomy, emphasizing freedom of choice, voluntary association, and individual judgment. They believe in the principle of self-ownership and reject any form of coercion or force that infringes upon individual rights. This ideology is often associated with a laissez-faire economic perspective, advocating for minimal state intervention in the economy and the free market.

The roots of libertarianism can be traced back to the Age of Enlightenment in the 18th centur…  Read more

What is one aspect of your life you wish had less government involvement, and how would it benefit you?

Render unto Caesar that which is Caesar's.

The lack of nuance in your slogan is why it is false.

 @MAGA_Deplorable from Washington  disagreed…2yrs2Y

Before Jesus said that, the Pharisees had asked him whether it was lawful to pay taxes to Caesar or not. Jesus didn't say no, it's true, but neither did he say yes. Instead he asked whose image and whose likeness was on the Denarius. He asked to see the coin. On the coin, it said that Caesar was divine. When Jesus said "Render unto Caesar the things that are Caesars, and to God the things that are God's," it is entirely possible that he meant that people needed to stop glorifying Ceasar like he was a God and remember that they owed their allegiance to Him, not to…  Read more

Taxation is not theft. You give your taxes to the government that you elected and the government gives you goods and services in exchange.

Theft is taking something by force for personal gain without giving anything back. Taxation is a mutually beneficial voluntary transaction between individuals in a free state.

#1 Engaged Collective Bargaining

The oligarchy are the ones enslaving you, not the government.

The government gives you goods and services in exchange for your taxes, and you have the power to remove them from office if they aren't doing their job.

The oligarchs use their power to take the fruits of your labor out of your paycheck and give you nothing in return, and have no power over them other than collective bargaining and boycotts.

 @ISIDEWITHasked…2yrs2Y

In what ways do you think minimal government intervention would impact innovation and entrepreneurship?

 @9RD2286 from Ohio  answered…2yrs2Y

Less regulation will hurt the public. Corporations will always choose to hurt the consumers if they think it will be profitable for them.

  @Patriot-#1776Constitution from Washington  disagreed…2yrs2Y

It is never profitable for corporations to harm people, in a free market those that do die.

 @FabulousUrchinDemocrat from Missouri  disagreed…2yrs2Y

What about the tobacco industry? Companies like Philip Morris and RJ Reynolds spent millions on advertising and lobbying to maintain their market dominance, all while internal documents revealed that they were aware of the dangers of their products. They even targeted young people to ensure a steady stream of new customers. They were incredibly profitable while causing significant harm to their consumers. Even in a relatively free market, they thrived over a hundred years until regulations and public awareness campaigns finally caught up.

 @omg123Greenfrom New York  disagreed…5mos5MO

#1 Engaged Addiction

What about Big Pharma manufacturing opiates and distributing them to people, knowing they will become addicted to them? "Free markets" do not protect people from addiction. Addicts do not have the ability to make a choice what they will purchase.

How do you think society would change if businesses operated with almost no government oversight?

 @9RD3FX4 from South Carolina  answered…2yrs2Y

Some, if not most, businesses would exploit their workers without government oversight.

 @RIPCharlieRepublican from Pennsylvania  commented…7mos7MO

Keep in mind, companies have to find people willing to work for them. If one company has better working conditions, it will be able to get better workers, while companies that treat workers like garbage will be left with less effective and less motivated workers.

 @9SBSJ6W from Ohio  commented…2yrs2Y

With government oversight employers exploit their workers and treat them like crap without government oversight we'd see an economic collapse or medieval times type environment.a complete rollback in civil rights.

Liberalism is a political ideology that emphasizes individual rights, equality, and the protection of civil liberties. The term "liberalism" comes from the Latin word "liber," meaning "free," and it is fundamentally concerned with the concept of freedom and the rights of the individual.

Can a society truly uphold equal rights for all its members without some form of government intervention, and why do you think so?

 @9H4JHTW from New York  answered…3yrs3Y

I believe that liberalism has come a little too far especially in present days. Yes equality should be top tier but some ideology that has come up in present days and are praised by some people in schools. These new events that are being exposed to our children are opposites of the norm and we are accepting things that children shouldn't be introduced until they are mature.

 @9H4JFJ8 from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

I believe that government intervention is necessary even if not ideal. There is not an ideal we can reach since humanity suffers with a lack of integrity. We are divided spiritually and ethically. The government in a democratic system was meant to represent the majority with the idea that the most people possible will benefit. Therefore, I would hope there would be intervention if necessary since they have structure and consistent rules. Without government intervention, we are at the whim of the changing passions and spiritual explorations of various groups.

Socialism

Socialism is a political ideology that advocates for the collective or governmental ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods. It emphasizes the principle that wealth and income should be shared more equally among the people. Socialists argue that the distribution of wealth and power in a society should be controlled by the whole community rather than by individuals or private corporations.

Did you SERIOUSLY just call Hitler a socialist? Honestly, it’s insulting you put him in the same category. He was a fascist, which is an inherently far-right ideology. He was a social conservative, and openly described his revolution as both Christian at heart, and anti-capitalist. Not pro-socialist, anti-capitalist. What he got was Corporatism, a crooked and destructive form of capitalism that lies on the spectrum of fascism. Please, continue arguing about Hitler, I’d love to educate.

If all your basic needs were met by the government, what would motivate you to work or achieve?

 @9H4Z8DD from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

Under a Socialist government the workers have no need to improve or develop anything better besides for personal enjoyment, thus leaving the nation cripplingly bankrupt for ideas. Nothing would ever get better and their would be no motivation.

 @CommonManAmerican Solidarity from Northern Mariana Islands  disagreed…2yrs2Y

Socialism basically means socialization of the means of production. In other words, workers become owners of their means of production. (Unlike Marxism-Leninism, a distorted form of bureaucracy, this is real socialism.) In this society, workers are the owners of their companies, so they will have a sense of ownership and work more creatively than before, when they were simply salaried workers.

 @9KTJSQGProgressive from New York  disagreed…2yrs2Y

Tradition is wrong 99% of the time. Tradition has a history of systemic inequality for literally all groups who are not straight white dudes. Just because we did it in the past does not make it good considering the US's history of war crimes, injustices and oppression. Unity is not needed, just because 30% of the population believes something does not make it correct or true. We can put effort into trying to convice them but after a certain point some people are just unreachable. In the case of things like climate change, deniers are in the vast minority and are just flatty wrong. If at this point they are still deniers no amount of effort will change that. Pushing for consensus here means no progress is ever made despite most people wanting change.

Every idea, philosophy or solution has an origin. As time passes these become known as traditions. Therefore, if tradition is wrong 99% of the time does that make 99% of all new ideas, philosophies, and solutions wrong also?
