It is a group that keeps the countries united and removing ourselves from it would be suspicious and would not do anything

While it's true that the United Nations serves as a platform for dialogue among nations, it's also worth noting that there have been instances where it has failed to prevent conflicts, such as the Rwandan genocide in 1994 and the ongoing Syrian civil war. These examples illustrate that the UN's effectiveness in maintaining global unity and peace is not always assured. What are your thoughts on these instances? Could the U.N. have acted differently to prevent these tragedies?

While I understand your point about fostering international relationships, it's worth noting that the UN isn't the only platform for such interactions. The effectiveness and efficiency of the UN have been questioned multiple times. Plus, it’s not guaranteed that being part of the UN would prevent wars. Instead, the focus should perhaps be on diplomatic relations directly between countries. How do you see this perspective?

The United Nations is one of the main platforms of international influence that the United Sates has access to. Our membership is also a symbol of a spirit of international cooperation and leaving it would reflect badly on us. Additionally the UN is an important mediator since we would likely play a large part in the next global conflict, should one occur. If the League of Nations had been as strong as the UN, it is possible that WWII would not have occurred.

While it is true that hosting a UN headquarters could contribute to US soft power, it is also worth considering the cost and security implications. For example, New York City spends millions of dollars each year on security and other housing-related services at its headquarters. This creates a significant burden for taxpayers. Additionally, the presence of a headquarters can also pose a security risk as it can be a potential target for attacks. How will you address these concerns?

The UN HQ provides the US with a large amount of soft power that we should not voluntarily surrender.
