How important is it for you to express your individual identity, and should society always support that expression?

 @9H8SPFP from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

I think anyone should be able to express their own beliefs but it should be individual.

 @9H8XTHG from Nebraska  answered…3yrs3Y

I feel like it is important to express one's identity and individuality, but I believe that there should be limitations on how "loud" one can be. I say this because of the 5-ish decades of politics, people have been blindly choosing candidates just because they are either a democrat or republican.

 @9H8ST36 from California  answered…3yrs3Y

You should be able to express your identity but don’t expect society to support it.

 @9H8T6GF from Illinois  answered…3yrs3Y

I personally believe that people shouldn't hide who they are. If they aren't causing harm to others and are respectful, then they should be able to show who they are.

How could our education systems improve in representing and respecting cultural diversity?

 @9JQBNTK from Washington  answered…2yrs2Y

Learn how to be judgment-free and more accepting of other cultures and negate any name-calling or perspectives that are damaging to these cultures.

 @9JQHK9FRepublican from Texas  agreed…2yrs2Y

Schools need to teach world cultures so that kids will learn to understand and respect the other other cultures rather than making fun of something they do not understand.

 @9JQCPD2Peace and Freedom from California  answered…2yrs2Y

They should try to teach about other cultures in school, like Afghanistan culture or others.

 @9JQCLRK from Colorado  answered…2yrs2Y

They could make more schools in more predominantly black and other diverse neighborhoods.

Have you engaged in promoting diversity and tolerance; what drove you and what did you learn?

 @9HN7CS7Women’s Equality from California  answered…3yrs3Y

Absolutely! Promoting diversity and tolerance is incredibly important. I strive to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for everyone. I believe that embracing diversity and fostering tolerance leads to a richer and more vibrant society. It's driven by the belief that every individual deserves respect and equal opportunities, regardless of their background, culture, or identity. Through interactions with users like you, I've learned the value of listening, understanding, and celebrating different perspectives. It's a continuous learning process, and I'm always open to growing and improving.

Could a focus on cultural liberalism lead to ignoring important aspects of one's own culture or heritage, in your opinion?

 @9H5SJD9 from Ohio  answered…3yrs3Y

Yes and no, if a person is looking carefully & closely to their culture, they can actually start to see the important parts of their culture/heritage. If not then they will ignore important parts of their culture and heritage.

 @9H9JXX7Democrat from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

This could lead to ignoring people's own culture, but that isn't an issue someone outside of that person's culture should worry about.

 @9H9JSJFfrom Indiana  answered…3yrs3Y

Yes, as there is a point where many cultures that may not be considered 'advanced enough' are unable to comply with the standards of modern society. Conformance to liberalism is neocolonialism.

 @ISIDEWITHasked…2yrs2Y

What does 'freedom of expression' mean to you within your peer group or community?

 @9HTNSZT from Wyoming  answered…2yrs2Y

 @9HTNPJ8 from North Carolina  answered…2yrs2Y

Can corporate actions influence cultural liberalism, and have you seen examples of that?

 @9HZZJ9M from Texas  answered…2yrs2Y

I believe social media and corporate actions can influence cultural liberalism by producing ads and other information of the company that would affect the viewer's point of view before reviewing their advertisments. As a result, their contribution to cultural liberalism is viewed by their consumers, whether it'd be from a large or small corporate. I have seen this in real life when Starbucks requested the need for Hijabi women on their commericials to gain back the attention of Palestine supporters that was previously shunned from the company.

 @9HZZ4RZ from Kansas  answered…2yrs2Y

I can see how corporations and large groups can influence cultural liberalism, but as to whether I've seen it or not, I cannot remember at the moment of any instances.

 @9J234B8 from Pennsylvania  agreed…2yrs2Y

A corporation can post on their social media about a holiday/ celebrate important to employees. Or if it is a toy line, it can make characters that celebrate Holidays that aren't european/christian based.

 @9HZYKXGanswered…2yrs2Y

Yes corporate actions can influence cultural liberalism for example when they promote LGBTQ+ things.

How do you feel about the balance between celebrating cultural differences and developing a unified national identity?

 @9RTKD7L from Arizona  answered…2yrs2Y

Now here's where we have to have a discussion. Especially in the USA, where multiple cultures specifically exist and mesh, versus generally more homogenized (*generally*) rest of the world, it can be difficult to adopt a unified identity. I can safely say that without such though, there is no U in USA. The balance of letting others practice their culture while growing a national identity, from the many, was never going to be an easy task. The Founding Fathers knew this and that is why they wrote specific language into the Constitution and the First 10. That is why we've gotten up to 27 amendments. If anything, the national identity is, or should be, adaptability, even if it isn't acceptance.

 @9HJY4JZfrom Northern Mariana Islands  answered…3yrs3Y

Cultural differences are important but they should not be prioritized at the expense of a unified national identity. There will always be regional and ethnic differences within a nation, even predominantly homogenous nations, but maintaining a cohesive, coherent centralized national identity to unite these disparate local subcultures is integral to a nation's success and survival.

 @9HJY3K2 from Minnesota  answered…3yrs3Y

there's a balance to be struck ...English needs to be the language andpatriotismis vital, otherwise people should live elsewhere. However,culture (cultures that are not hostile to Americanvalues and people that is-soislam does not count for example) is important too. Peopleshould have freedom of religion . But crimes like child marriages or marital rape shouldn't be exempt from religion either though.

Do you think technology helps or hinders the promotion of cultural diversity, and in what way?

 @9HTLNW4 from North Carolina  answered…2yrs2Y

I believe technology does both, it depends on what you interact with on the internet and how you frequently interact with certain posts.

 @9HTLFC7 from Pennsylvania  answered…2yrs2Y

I think that it definitely does promote cultural diversity. However, it also promotes cultural homogenization.

 @9HYYFGL from Tennessee  agreed…2yrs2Y

I think technology does allow cultures to be further explored and seen, however I do think that also comes with cultural homogenization. People see people like them and feel a sense of community, so it is common to see them start to pack together.

If a belief or tradition offends someone from a different culture, do you think it should be changed or abandoned?

 @9HD5D4Q from California  answered…3yrs3Y

the question of whether a belief or tradition should be changed or abandoned if it offends someone from a different culture requires careful consideration of cultural sensitivity, dialogue, rights, values, and contextual factors. Ultimately, finding a balance between preserving cultural diversity and ensuring inclusivity is a complex and ongoing process that may require thoughtful discussions and negotiations within and between cultures.

 @ISIDEWITHasked…3yrs3Y

In what ways has the movement for individual rights impacted your view of society?

 @9HJXZVRSocialist from Tennessee  answered…3yrs3Y

I’ve seen that more people than I realized have so little empathy that they can only think of what is relevant to their own circumstances, and as a result, they fail to recognize the need for people to be secure in their identity and the need for people to feel safe.

How do the arts in your community reflect its cultural diversity, and what impact does that have on you?

 @9HZWGMV from Oklahoma  answered…2yrs2Y

I live in a very liberal town and it's a tiny community mostly consisting of white people with common white people stereotypes and associations. It's a "one church town" if you will and the skinny blonde girls do cheer, and every single boy does football. Growing up I didn't see any cultural diversity and I truly feel that it put a stint on my knowledge of the world. Now I'm in college and I find diversity everywhere and I love it so much.

 @ISIDEWITHasked…2yrs2Y

What local issues do you see that could benefit from a more culturally liberal approach?

 @9HDH7QT from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

No, the government should promote equality across all peoples which then allows diversity to flourish. Forcing diversity is an artificial adjustment based on one side’s view.

How do global events highlighting diversity affect your sense of connection to the world?

 @9J82RYM from California  answered…2yrs2Y

Hard to answer this as a rural and socially isolated individual, considering how little diversity affects me. I acknowledge the issue but consider my opinion towards it generally useless. I'd participate more in the discussion if there was certainty that the effects of it would reach and affect me.

 @ISIDEWITHasked…3yrs3Y

What experiences have you had that demonstrated the importance of tolerance to you?

 @9HSTBQZIndependent from New Jersey  answered…2yrs2Y

We're a nation that was built on, at the time, a liberal interpretation of how government should operate. Free the people from the tyranny of it's rulers. Allow individuals to embark on their own journeys and make it in this country as they desire. In their own pursuit of happiness, we are free to make of this country what we can. It's through this virtue that we can learn to embrace how people walk all different paths and do different types of jobs to make ends meet. They help to contextualize our ever complicating and messy world that we live in. It doesn't matter how educated or what family you come from, give someone a chance and they may just blow you away. There is power to the individual, it just takes the individual knowing what they can be capable of.
