In January 2023 Reps. Dan Crenshaw (R., Texas) and Michael Waltz (R., Fla.) proposed a joint resolution giving the president authority to use the U.S. military against drug cartels in Mexico. The bill was proposed in response to the recent spike in American drug overdose deaths. Opioid-involved overdose deaths rose from 21,089 in 2010 to 47,600 in 2017 and remained steady through 2019. This was followed by a significant increase in 2020 with 68,630 reported deaths and again in 2021 with 80,411 reported overdose deaths. A 2017 analysis, accounting for the costs of health…

Yes if there is congressional approval
@9F3YXZZ2yrs2Y
The military should go down ther and take the drug cartels out.
@9DR7Q8G2yrs2Y
Yes but in coordination with other nations in the region to address the issue before it gets to the US.
No and a lot of drugs shouldn't be legal but there are some drugs that should be legal and for US president to mobilize the military against anybody whether they're a gang another government is an act of war you're going and attacking someone in a different place over something that isn't really your issue yes there probably is some in America but we have seen little proof and the only thing that they have told us is a trust me statement and not show improve about it so until there is hardcore proof that Mexican drug cartels are in America giving drugs and causing a lot of overdoses and stuff they should stay out of it they should legalize some drugs and a lot of drugs should be kept illegal
@B5YNBBJIndependent 3mos3MO
No, legalize and decriminalize all drugs, and provide at risk individuals with government funded rehabilitation services.
@B3VM4227mos7MO
It depends on what we would be doing with our military. I think we should worry about things inside of our country first before moving out, but if they have to go in order to benefit American citizens then I'm for it.
If the Cartel is in conflict with any officials who are important or anything important to the U.S. i think the military should then get involved. If the military just gets involved then it will start a big fight among ourself and wouldn't be very good for surrounding people and places.
@9SSCT8T1yr1Y
I think a special task force working with Mexico's government should be assigned with detailed background should be in charge of taking the cartel's down.
@9NZJLRS 1yr1Y
No, but give more funding to those agencies that are already trying to deal with the issue. Also legalize some of the less destructive drugs the cartels sell so that proper regulations can be enacted rather than a total ban.
@9NH6986Independent1yr1Y
In instances in which the operations can be covert and are guaranteed to stop harmful outcomes of drug- or human-trafficking, yes. Again, as a blanket statement, no.
@9M6VDDB1yr1Y
As of right now the Mexican President is doing a good job of keeping a handle of the Cartels. But if need be American troops could intervene.
@9LLLS6V1yr1Y
The president should enforce military against drug cartels, but we also have a drug problem in the US that doesn't seem to be getting better
@9KX7X9C2yrs2Y
Only with the agreement/request of Mexico. Just as I do not believe one US state should ever cross another State's border to capture someone who broke that state's law.
No legalize weed and decriminalize possession of all the drugs make rehab free and treat drug addicts like cancer or people that have a disease and need help
@9JBCBL82yrs2Y
I believe that we should but also no at the same time because that is outside of our jurisdiction,but I do believe we can do better about drug control.
@9GGZFTP2yrs2Y
he should not be able to do this because it is the duty of law enforceents to do this by its self with other agencies help.
@9G4S9DG2yrs2Y
I think if the Mexican Drug Cartels are trying to get in American illegally then yes, if they are on American soil then yes. If they have hostages and are doing stuff like that in Mexico then yes.
@9G3P2HRWomen’s Equality2yrs2Y
i would say yes to a extent, but i think it would have to be an investigated situation to know where their "hotspots" are but i also think only for operations in our boarders
@9F7ZJYD2yrs2Y
Yes, and work with the Mexican government to stop the cartels.
@9F3Z4852yrs2Y
If the Cartel’s are hurting the state then yes because that means they’re too dangerous for local authorities.
@9DS5X322yrs2Y
The US should stop it all together
@9DGLHL42yrs2Y
Yes but only working in cooperation with neighboring countries to address the issue at its source.
@9FBQN7C2yrs2Y
Yes, this should be with the assisted help of the Mexican government
@9BNSKDD2yrs2Y
Only if they are a threat
@9B2KQWF3yrs3Y
Yes, only in full agreement with the Mexican government.
@99Y25NQ3yrs3Y
If it’s a direct problem and we know any immediate way to improve it or help it maybe.
@9CCFPZ82yrs2Y
Only if the cartels become so prominent in the U.S. that federal intervention is necessary.
@9C28RX82yrs2Y
Somehow someway we need to figure out how to stabilize these central american countries that people are fleeing. We just have to much corruption in our own government to be any help.
@9BPWB692yrs2Y
stay in our lane mexican cartel is mexico's problem if they cross our borders they made it our problem
@9BP9C6B2yrs2Y
Inside our own borders, yes. Otherwise, only upon the request by Mexico.
@9BHX68F2yrs2Y
Only if it directly affects us, anything else is Mexico's problem.
@9BB8MCS2yrs2Y
Illegal deadly drugs only
Yes, but we should not punish those forced to work in cartels such as children and minors, and make sure that the families of those working in cartels are still safe in the case that they relied on the money from cartels to survive. Not every person is involved with the cartel willingly, nor are they all paid handsomely.
@9SQSVC21yr1Y
Yes, but only with the approval of Congress and the consent and cooperation of the Mexican government
@9JWKVYZProgressive2yrs2Y
Yes, but only if we are able to cooperate with Mexican authorities and have the consent of Congress and the Mexican government
@9WSGW2GPeace and Freedom12mos12MO
no because it would start a lot of troubles with the United States, and it would not be very useful in the end.
@9S99LLK1yr1Y
The us military is meant to protect the citizens of the United States in whatever capacity. More information is needed to answer this question.
@9FPLFXM2yrs2Y
Yes but not just Mexican drug cartels, and only cartels in out border.
