The policy of letting people enter and then simply letting them roam freely around the country when most of them never show up for their court dates is insane. Further it is not the job of the US to admit anyone and everyone who doesn't like the countries they already live in. They should strive to improve those countries rather than, in many cases, brining the problems of those countries with them here.
As to Ukraine, the US cannot make up for decades of Ukrainian faulire to prepare to deal with it's hostile beligerant neighbor. Prior to the Crimean invasion Ukraine was consistently spending less than 2% of GDP on defense and we now see that that was nowhere near enough. Now the US and NATO, mostly the US, are expected to magically make up for decades of non-existent Ukrainian defense spending and production which just isn't going to happen. To make matters worse Russia is now well dug in in the Ukrainian east and south so even more money and weapons will be needed to dislodge them than would have been required to keep them out in the first place. Ukraine, via it's lack of preparedness, may have simply dug itself into a hole, which, in the long run, is simply too deep to climb out of. The rest of Europe, with it's mostly pathetic levels of defense spending, would be well advised to take note.
