College is not what it used to be. Seems to me a waste of time and money for a large portion of the student body. A degree in social activism, really?

 @ColomboSocialist from Michigan  disagreed…7mos7MO

A degree in social activism, really?

Social activism is a major you can choose, not a degree. You would have to take courses in political science, economics, social engineering, and other related fields. Not to mention the required courses in Math, Statistics, Writing, and other essentials. It's a lot more difficult than just picking one thing to learn and getting a piece of paper for it. A social activist could get a job working for the Child Protective Services, Unemployment Agencies, journalism, or public administration. A major is just something you want to specialize in. The degree would be a Bachelor of Arts or Master of Arts.

I have zero plans to go to college right now, but if it would be affordable of course I would and I would likely be better off in life. Society would be smarter, and it would likely stimulate the economy with the improved job availability.

 @9VLN4QJLibertarian from New York  commented…12mos12MO

It would not stimulate the economic most college student just don’t used their degree.😂

 @ColomboSocialist from Michigan  disagreed…7mos7MO

70.2% of recent bachelor recipients are employed, while only 32.4% of recent high school graduates are employed. College students use their degrees to get employment. https://www.bls.gov/news.release/hsgec.nr0.htm

if tuition were to be free in collage the literacy rates would spike tremendously creating a well educated society.

 @9WR696D from Pennsylvania  answered…11mos11MO

I think it would make our labor force more productive, competitive, educated, and happy.

 @9VLR8HQ from New York  answered…12mos12MO

My perspective on college would change to see it as more worthwhile and less elitist. It would allow everyone a better chance to thrive, rather than just the rich.

 @9VLRVM8 from Oklahoma  answered…12mos12MO

I would not want tax payer's money going to people's tuition that they do not know

It would be a public good, but I know it won't significantly effect me because of my demographic's tendency to get good scholarships.

 @9WQM5X6Democrat from Massachusetts  answered…11mos11MO

My perspective on college tuition wouldn't really change much since it would make it more appealing to go to college.

Free college would dilute the workplace, making jobs of craft more valuable.

 @9WQLHMW from Nevada  answered…11mos11MO

Free college means more people go, which makes your degree useless. Just how a high school diploma went from a decent qualification to required for many minimum wage jobs.

 @9WQKR2H from Texas  answered…11mos11MO

If college were free I believe more people would go and the economy would improve

 @9WQKPTKWomen’s Equality from Minnesota  answered…11mos11MO

I already want to go to college but if I were to have I free it would encourage me to want to go more and make sure I get into a collage that fits me and my liking

 @9WQHBQGRepublican from Wyoming  answered…11mos11MO

It would still be the same becuase they dont care about the student they just want their money.

 @9WQGRYJ from Ohio  answered…11mos11MO

If college were free we would have more overall educated people. More education means better society.

 @9WQGKB6 from Washington  answered…11mos11MO

More educated members of society created more job opportunities at a larger scale

 @9WQGHRXRepublican from Pennsylvania  answered…11mos11MO

 @9WQGCR3 from Ohio  answered…11mos11MO

It would be negative. Its not fair to those who have paid previously and it would drive inflation.

 @9WQD86K from California  answered…11mos11MO

Free tuitions would create more oppurtunities for education in our society.

 @9WQG7LK from Georgia  answered…11mos11MO

 @9WQFKZV from Hawaii  answered…11mos11MO

It would be harder to pay professors and I think that there would be a drop in the amount of educators.

 @9WQFFCX from Minnesota  answered…11mos11MO

More people would be able to afford college which can be a good thing and a bad thing

 @9WQF9MD from Washington  answered…11mos11MO

I don't think I will go to college due to the fact that I am not willing/able to pay such a high amount and also due to my own education beliefs

 @9WQF6G2 from Washington  answered…11mos11MO

I feel like college tuition should be free. By not doing so, we limit education spread across America and only allow opportunities to the wealthy, who are primarily white and male. Less education means less power spread, and leads to an imbalance throughout history.

 @9WQDZ2C from Minnesota  answered…11mos11MO

The cost of tuition currently is horrendous and predatory loans have had a horrible affect on me and many others who were almost forced into making the decision to go to college and take out 10s of thousands of dollars in loans with no real knowledge of how the system even works, and how hard it will be to pay back later. Many jobs don't even pay enough to pay off the degrees that require them. I think making college tuition free or significantly cheaper would drastically help the younger generations get their foot in the door, buy houses, be able to afford rent, groceries etc, and boost the economy in the process.

 @9WQDNM5 from Minnesota  answered…11mos11MO

 @9WQDJBP from Florida  answered…11mos11MO

If tuition was free, it would be generally better for the student, but the colleges would get less money. To compensate, more tax dollars should go to college funds.

 @9WQD3ML from Nebraska  answered…11mos11MO

more people would attend college if tuition was free, more people would go for high jobs and pay increasing the economy ad decreasing peoples debt.

 @9WQCZ5CRepublican from Arkansas  answered…11mos11MO

I would try to go to the best college possible rather than one that's good enough and affordable

 @9WQ9QY7Independent from Idaho  answered…11mos11MO

I'd be happy since I have 3 college age kids, but I think society would be more unhappy

 @9WQCF3H from Arkansas  answered…11mos11MO

That would ensure success to families with no money at all, and more people would be able to attend colleges.

 @9WQC96Z from Utah  answered…11mos11MO

 @9WQC5S5 from Arkansas  answered…11mos11MO

More people would go and it's help the economy by giving us higher a qualified workforce

 @9LF45RSRepublican  from Kansas  answered…11mos11MO

If college would become free than student loan debt should be forgiven to those who already paid for same education. I also feel that only those that academically are prepared for college should be admitted.

 @9WQ32H4 from Nebraska  answered…11mos11MO

I think that free college is too controversial, and I don't think that it will benefit the economy. There are more important things to focus on.

 @9WQBSJTWomen’s Equality from Texas  answered…11mos11MO

I think there needs to be regulations on college being free. Students should need to maintain a certain GPA and be actively working towards a degree.

 @9WQBN9J from Minnesota  answered…11mos11MO

I think having tuition be free would be amazing but there are a lot of different factors that also have to be considered. Will student loans be forgiven? How will colleges be able to afford paying their staff? Will taxes increase?

 @9WQBN9MIndependent from Pennsylvania  answered…11mos11MO

 @9WQBM2K from New York  answered…11mos11MO

People might take school less seriously as far as education and more like a period of personal growth socially, but that's also important while growing up, so I'm okay with it. Hopefully they come out a better and smarter person with a degree. I'd love if college were a lot cheaper and maybe even free. The loans we have today are too expensive because they know we're getting federal loans which they're grabbing at greedily like free cash. Like the renewal fund from the 2022 Batman movie.

 @9WQBG93 from Colorado  answered…11mos11MO

It would make me want to attend college more because I would not have to worry about paying off my debts for a long time after college. This would impact society in a good way because more people will go to college.

 @9WQB6S7Republican from Kansas  answered…11mos11MO

If college were free then way more people would go. But the government would have to fund it and it would be expensive.

 @9WQB4KB from Arizona  answered…11mos11MO

People could have degrees or majors more easily which can give opportunity to have a job

 @9WQ8WFBIndependent from Georgia  answered…11mos11MO

I had to pay my on Tuition so should everyone pay there on debt for college. And the Government should not be paying for tuition. Colleges are charging way to much for Tuition.

 @9WQ9VKZ  from Colorado  answered…11mos11MO

It could be life changing. It would set students on a path where they could truly focus on the content of their work without the weight of a big cost. There are other ways to motivate and create incentive for student success other than a high charge and cost for education. There’s often the mindset where a student tries in school because they know they’re making the payments and they don't want it to go to waste. However, the motivation of accomplishment and perseverance alone and to have a sense of purpose and achievement in this world is meaningful enough to go through the hard work and experience of higher education. A large cost can set a student off on a challenging start and could create a cycle that is tough to break. Such a large cost can be detrimental to a young adult and their beginning steps into the world.

 @9WQ9JS7Democrat from Minnesota  answered…11mos11MO

If colleges were free it would decrease the value of having a degree in the work force. I think it also shouldn't be 100% free because people would not try as hard if they aren't paying for it. College should be a great deal cheaper like a lot cheaper, because people deserve equal opportunities to become educated, and colleges already make enormous amounts of money as is.

 @9WQ7KLK  from Texas  answered…11mos11MO

Allowing higher education to be free or extremely reduced would probably increase the strength of the economy because more people will be getting better, higher ranked, more important jobs that are more stable, allowing more structure in America.

 @9WQ7B5YRepublican from Texas  answered…11mos11MO

Lots of kids cant afford tuition to go to the college they wanna attend and some don't get scholarships either therefore if it was free it would help lots of people and students out.

 @9WQ759B from Pennsylvania  answered…11mos11MO

I feel that if tuition were free then a lot of people who otherwise wouldn't get there talents known or put to use the way they should be would get not only the education they need but also move up in the world.

 @9WQ727B from California  answered…11mos11MO

 @9WQ6TVB from Pennsylvania  answered…11mos11MO

 @9WQ6LMSNo Labels from Missouri  answered…11mos11MO

It would make no point to college. You pay for that allows you to get the higher paying job. Dont major in something stupid that doesnt pay a good salary and you are fine

 @9WQ4X32 from Texas  answered…11mos11MO

I think that people should be able to afford college in the same way as anybody else.

 @9WQ4FVHPeace and Freedom from South Carolina  answered…11mos11MO

If College were free, that would allow many more people to pursue a higher education, while lifting the burden on people that may have had years of debt. However I think there should still be qualifications on how you get into a college, because if anyone can get into a college it might not be the best for everyone.

 @9WPYWF5 from Arkansas  answered…11mos11MO

It would probably make other prices go up that we dont want to so the society wouldn't like that any. It would cause a negative impact on society.

 @9WPY93G from New Jersey  answered…11mos11MO

People would stop thinking about college as something you get into but as something you have to do as a chore.

 @9WPY86LRepublican from Virginia  answered…11mos11MO

As a college graduate with debt I can't afford to pay off, it would increase my likelihood to return to graduate school, and I think it would increase the likelihood of people attending college.
