There is a massive misunderstanding about H-1B visas and the type of people coming in on these visas.

These are not elite top 1% type engineers and programmers. They are mostly very mediocre and nothing special.

These people are brought in for cheap labor, not elite talent. There are exceptions, sure. Very few.

 @HushedKingdomConstitutionfrom Maine  disagreed…2yrs2Y

According to Grok Each year, the United States issues a maximum of 85,000 H-1B visas. This includes 65,000 under the regular cap and an additional 20,000 for individuals who have earned a master's degree or higher from a U.S. institution. That is a lot of people.

This is false...in order to get an H-1, you must try to recruit eligible workers in the US first, then have a prevailing wage study done (preventing low wage scams)...come on guys.

Visa holders get exploited by corporations because they can't change jobs and have to leave the country if they get laid off. Harder to get raises because of lack of competition. It doesn't help foreign workers or domestic workers. Just corporations.

Tech bros not gonna win this one within MAGA.

Their best bet is getting their status quo position to prevail in some quiet administrative compromise and hoping no one notices, rather than drawing attention to their losing position on X.

There’s no actual way of people on my and their side of this debate winning. Not happening under Trump, Democrats aren’t supportive of this position either. At some point years down the line, maybe public sentiment will change.

Thanks to Joe Biden, immigration restriction is a majoritarian position in the country in a way it wasn’t in 2016. Trump has a mandate to do whatever he wants on it. This is a weird hill to die on, particularly in light of the election we just had.

 @5JLL85RDemocratfrom Kansas  disagreed…2yrs2Y

wrong. the coalition of minority/immigrant voters that went right has fractured bc the identitarian right didn’t say any of this stuff prior to election- basically the base just backstabbed the newer part of the base

 @GrassrootsArtDemocrat from Texas  disagreed…2yrs2Y

They’re dying on this hill because the actual problem to hardcore MAGA isn’t border crossings. They just don’t like immigrants in general, so they want to leverage their majoritarian position on border crossings into a total purge.

For something to be an intra-coalitional rift, the debate has to be happening at the voter level, with millions of people in the coalition taking one side and millions of people the other.

This H1B kerfuffle doesn’t rise to that level.

 @LibertyBellPloverWorking Family from Texas  agreed…2yrs2Y

MAGA did everything they could to squelch these debates during the election, "We can hash things out after we win". So a lot of their coalition kept their mouths shut.

Now that it's time to pay the piper, a lot of those groups want payback with interest for their silence

If you hear someone say “Comprehensive Immigration Reform,” immediately disregard their opinion.

What we need, and what Trump campaigned on, is the largest deportation operation in American history.

They will call you racist and a bigot. Ignore the noise. Stay true to our goal.

That just means allow everyone in, instant legal status and voting democrat in 1 year

 @PluckyLemurGreen from Washington D.C.  commented…2yrs2Y

I hope the MAGA right notices Vivek Ramaswamy is hostile to working people. He wants to prevent Trump from capping credit card rates and junk fees which to help the 70% of Americans living paycheck to paycheck while blaming American culture for their circumstances.

His podcast interview with Ezra Klein was shocking for its shallowness of thought beyond sophomore year Ayn Randisms
