No

 @B4L3TFHfrom Maine  disagreed…1yr1Y

I believe there are only two genders but if you think your a animal then you can think you are but no one else should get in trouble if they call you sir/ma'am. because scientifically you are either male or female.

 Deletedagreed…8mos8MO

Context is that parents and children have differing views and that's not inherently bad but there should not be heavy government intervention unless heavy amounts of mental and physical abuse are present.

 @ISIDEWITHDiscuss this answer...1yr1Y

Yes

 Deleteddisagreed…8mos8MO

Parents can have quarrels with children there are ways for them both to understand each other and come to a consensus the government should not intervene to make them lose custody.

 @B4LD449Republican from North Carolina  answered…1yr1Y

they shouldnt lose custuody, but should go to a therapist to understand that it is wrong to misgender their own child.

 @B4LCM3N from North Carolina  answered…1yr1Y

No, but intentional missgendering should be taken into account when considering emotional and psychological abuse.

 @B4LJQMLRepublican from California  answered…1yr1Y

Male born children should on be allowed to be male, and female born children should only be allowed to be female.

 @n35w101Independent  from Oklahoma  answered…1yr1Y

It depends on the reasons behind the misgendering. Is it because of legal status issues, or intentional disregard for the child? The topic is too nuanced for a simple answer.

 @B4LK6GJLibertarian from Texas  answered…1yr1Y

I believe if they are harming them in any way emotionally and physically because they do not agree with their child, they should lose custody.

 @B4LF5HPPeace and Freedom from Pennsylvania  answered…1yr1Y

No the should not lose custody but something should be done to try to prevent it our make it law and allowing the child to do what they want to do instead of misgendering them so young

 @B4LBNTQ from Pennsylvania  answered…1yr1Y

Parents should love their children unconditionally and sometimes they have to learn and adjust from what their parents have installed in them to believe

 @B4KK7WP from Georgia  answered…1yr1Y

This is stupid thats still their child and should not lose custody for calling them the gender they are.

 @B8Y6SMM from Tennessee  answered…6mos6MO

If they’re born male then they’re a male for the rest of their life and same response if it were a female. Only 2 genders.

  @Mosby-Politics  from Michigan  answered…2mos2MO

 @BBMZD48Democrat from Massachusetts  answered…4mos4MO

No but if it repeated and harmful towards the child they should. I highly recomend not purposefully misgendering them.

 @B4LS62X from Ohio  answered…1yr1Y

No they shouldn't lose custody the child should be able to decide until thye are 18 or at least mature enough to understand and must get surgery..

 @B4L9JJQNo Labels from Missouri  answered…1yr1Y

Unless they are physically hurting their child for being a different gender, I don't believe they should lose custody unless the child believes so.

 @B4K8X2M from Pennsylvania  answered…1yr1Y

Parents shouldn't be obligated to lose their child if they misgender them if they use the gender in which the child was born with

 @B4K8QDR from Nebraska  answered…1yr1Y

if they are forcing them to switch genders yes, if they are sticking with their biological gender then they're fine

No, but they should lose custody if they prevent social and medical transition.

 @BDVZ2SW  from Washington  answered…2wks2W

 @BDWD9GG from Wisconsin  answered…2wks2W

No, but people need to be properly educated on topics of transgender and nonbinary people in order to get rid of discrimination.

 @BDVMK4SNo Labels from Texas  answered…3wks3W

Yes, only if there are other signs of abuse or child neglect included.

 @BDVMG5L from Iowa  answered…3wks3W

It depends. The foster care system in this country is horrible and could possible put them in a house that has even more abuse.

no I don't think they should but I think they should actually respect said child

 @BDRYQDL  from New York  answered…4wks4W

No, I think they shouldn't lose custody but should go to therapy to figure out how to accept their child's decision. The child will have issues as it won't feel accepted.

 @BDRVMP8 from New Hampshire  answered…4wks4W

it isn't really that big of a deal unless they keep doing it, but thats not too serious to lose custody over.

 @BDRMGNXSocialist from Tennessee  answered…4wks4W

 @BDR455YSocialist from California  answered…4wks4W

Not automatically, but depending on other factors, they may lose custody

 @BDQHDRT from Colorado  answered…4wks4W

 @BDQ8WQB from California  answered…4wks4W

 @BDP2MRH  from Pennsylvania  answered…1mo1MO

Only if they’re misgendering their child because they don’t support them, if they don’t know what their child identifies as then that’s different.

  @ScarredWillDemocrat answered…1mo1MO

No, but their children should be able to reach out to third parties for assistance

 @BDN9ZS5 from Minnesota  answered…1mo1MO

It depends, if its harming them emotionally and physically, then yes...other than that, no

 @BDN3F23 from Indiana  answered…1mo1MO

 @BDMCMD5 from California  answered…1mo1MO

Maybe not at first, but if intervention occurs and nothing changes, then yes.

 @BDMB4V2 from California  answered…1mo1MO

I feel like they shouldn't lose custody but they should not be misgendering their own child.

 @BDM7RYR from Pennsylvania  answered…1mo1MO

If the child has been emotionally affected (Hospital visits, therapy) and the child has said they do not feel safe in the house hold.

 @BCPCXKR from Washington  answered…2mos2MO

I think if it gets to the point where a child doesnt feel safe in their own home then maybe.

 @BCNVGD7Communist  from Texas  answered…2mos2MO

No, there are many nuances, and people should be given a chance to learn to be understanding , but if it turns abusive, they should lose custody.

 @BCMBR4V from New York  answered…3mos3MO

Yes, but only if it is done to the point where there is emotional abuse and the child themselves wish to be removed from the home.

 @BCB65FY from Washington  answered…3mos3MO

yes, if for long periods of time and with the intent to harm, and if it does serious mental damage to the child

 @BC9ZGMVDemocrat from Missouri  answered…3mos3MO

No, because we can't force other people to use the correct pronouns but we still need to respect others opionions

 @BC9GXVRSocialist from North Carolina  answered…3mos3MO

No, but misgendering and other intentional acts of denying a child's gender identity should be considered and possibly used as evidence when a parent is investigated for emotional or psychological abuse.

 @BC979LF from Kansas  answered…3mos3MO

No, but non-biased family therapy should be required and the decision of custody should be decided by the therapist.

 @BC6GBQ9Constitution  from Michigan  answered…3mos3MO

Only if "misgendering" is defined as treating the child as a sex other than the sex the child was born with.

 @BC636JL from Georgia  answered…3mos3MO

If the kids are still young I think they should still support their children, but talk to them about how life changing this is. Don't forcefully do it.

 @BC5BM8C from California  answered…3mos3MO

I think that parents migendering their child is a choice they make. At the end of the day, it is still their child, even if they refuse to aknowledge their stance.

 @BC3XFYJ from Missouri  answered…3mos3MO

No, children should not be worrying about their genders at young ages, but parents who do it as a form of abuse should.

 @BBYT6SQ from North Carolina  answered…3mos3MO

If it was a one off instance, no, but if this is a part of a larger issue, like abuse to the child for wanting to identify as a different gender, then that should be looked at.

 @BBVJP5R from Rhode Island  answered…3mos3MO

Although it is wrong to misgender your child intentionally, this isn't something that a parent should lose custody over their child for.

 @BBNXSYDJustice party member from New York  answered…4mos4MO

At first, know because it could be a problem with the parents' thinking, and then try to get the parents' help, and then if it continues to happen, then take the child away.

 @BBKSQ8R from Kansas  answered…4mos4MO

I think its important that parents respect their children but I think losing custody for simply misgendering them is very extreme

 @BBKSMDK from Georgia  answered…4mos4MO

You cannot change the opinion of someone even your own parents. It should only become a problem when they’re about to use conversion therapy.

 @BBHWSVFDemocrat from Kansas  answered…4mos4MO

If they are purposely being homophobic and treating them harmfully for it to an extreme extent, then yes.

 @BBHK4FT from Arizona  answered…4mos4MO

if they are forcefully misgendering them, if they child changes their gander and the parent doesnt comply it not a big deal if they are still young. If the child is born as a female and the parent intentionally misgenders them, then its a bigger problem.

 @BBGDXBZ from Maine  answered…4mos4MO

If the kid is LGBTQ and the parents misgender isn't he just misgendering his self if he wants to dress like a girl let the kid leave if he wants to for sake let them lose custody this is such a non issue people are dying.

 @BBG5XPS from Colorado  answered…4mos4MO

Yes, if it goes against what the child wants, for example if its a boy and they force it to be a girl, yes.

 @BBFY3TL from Pennsylvania  answered…4mos4MO

No but its important for the parents love there child unconditionally since they chose the have kids

 @BBFXRMT from Missouri  answered…4mos4MO

unless it's harming the child's metal health/physical health, then no, but be sure to give the parents a lesson.

 @BBFVRSDDemocrat from New York  answered…4mos4MO

If there is an alternative parent (ie: an aunt, uncle, grandparent, etc.) I think it should be up to the child.

 @BBF6NDT from Indiana  answered…4mos4MO

No you are a boy or your a girl scientifically you can be a hermaphrodite no trans or when men where dresses claiming to be women, just boy, girl, hermaphrodite.

 @BBF5LPL from Oregon  answered…4mos4MO

Only if it is a continuing issue that is leading the child to suicidal or self harm attempts or ideas

 @BBDMW6VGreen from Washington  answered…4mos4MO

No, but they should be evaluated to see if they are an unsafe environment for their child, as misgendering could be a sign of this.

 @KumoKumahDemocrat from Louisiana  answered…4mos4MO

No, but courts must intervene when intentional misgendering forms part of a broader pattern of abuse or dehumanization toward a trans child.

 @BBC4SZKPeace and Freedom from North Carolina  answered…4mos4MO

Yes, I think that if the kid clearly states that he does not feel supported by the parents, he has the right to leave, and the parents lose custody.

 @BBBBP8D from Ohio  answered…4mos4MO

The child’s mental and physical we being should be assessed and their safety be paramount when deciding placement

 @BB6VT3D from Connecticut  answered…4mos4MO

I think it is disrespectful to the child and don't support misgendering but I feel losing custody over their child is to much and unnecessary unless their child wants it.

 @BB6MD2TWomen’s Equality from California  answered…4mos4MO

No they shouldn't but they also shouldn't do that if they know their child is uncomfortbale with that, but no they shouldn't have their child take away from them

 @BB6BM7C from Tennessee  answered…4mos4MO

Yes, but only if this behavior is intentional and reoccurring, and is done to humiliate and belittle the child.

 @BB5FSLJ from South Carolina  answered…4mos4MO

i would say no but your child is your child you should respect there choice no you don't have to like it but that is there choice you should love them for who they are

 @BB4W4FC from Colorado  answered…4mos4MO

No, not lose custody and have their child taken away, but they should be required to take classes and face some kind of penalties, until they properly gender their child

 @BB4T2QS from California  answered…4mos4MO

No, but they should be taught tolerance for their children choosing to life the life they chose for themselves.

 @BB3SNTP from Arizona  answered…4mos4MO

No, but the child should be able to report this to a school counselor as a form of psychological/emotional abuse and a process should be in place to adjudicate that. An immediate move to custody removal is too extreme.

 @BB37ZFF from Minnesota  answered…4mos4MO

No i believe that this should only happen if it’s found to be abusive towards the kid. Parents are allowed to teach their children ideologies that they believe are important but to prevent hypocrisy there also needs to be a space for the child to have their own beliefs

 @BB2LSN5 from Ohio  answered…4mos4MO

Difficult to say. Only If the parent is doing this with the intention of verbally abusing them and not because they just don't understand and want to stick with what is comfortable for them.

 @B9ZX8WC from Florida  answered…4mos4MO

No, but there should be laws to prevent misgendering by a parent, or at least the child is able to make a reasonable decision by themselves.

 @B9YX5FK from Washington  answered…4mos4MO

No, but there should be some other form of help or intervention for transgender youth who do not feel supported by their families.

 @B9XXRCCProgressive  from New York  answered…5mos5MO

I believe that if it's intentional and malicious, it can have a large psychological impact on the child, and that it should require further investigation into possible psychological abuse, and that consequences should move forward from there

 @B9XTDQGPeace and Freedom from New York  answered…5mos5MO

No, I don’t think they should lose custody. There should be an intervention involving family counseling, education, and mediation rather than punishment.

 @B9WH6WJ from Utah  answered…5mos5MO

No, but it should be something that's recognized and addressed with proof of the harm it does to the child.

 @B9VKZTX from Pennsylvania  answered…5mos5MO

I don't understand why they wouldn't remember their own child's gender but there might be something wrong and some people shouldn't have kids

 @B9VFK7H  from North Carolina  answered…5mos5MO

I don't understand the question. If it is parents not respecting their child's incorrect belief of their identity, no. If it is the parents forcing their children to identify as a different gender than their assigned sex, yes.

 @B9VDV4S from Texas  answered…5mos5MO

I don't think lose custody but there should be something done because that child is still young to understand those term and has not decided that for himself

 @B9V2RPB from Ohio  answered…5mos5MO

They shouldn't lose custody... But they should not be allowed to adopt or foster trans children they misgender

 @B9TZ2K9Democrat from North Carolina  answered…5mos5MO

They should be reported to child protected services, and forced to receive counseling and gender identity education and well as education on the impacts on mental health of the child.

 @B9TGL2KIndependent from Washington  answered…5mos5MO

Boys have a penis, girls have a vagina. If a parent mis-genders that, they should have consequences.
