If more people are encouraged to take responsibility for their own safety instead of relying on the government it wouldn't matter if mentally ill or violent people had access to guns. There should be enough responsible people carrying firearms that if someone pulls a gun to do harm multiple people can stop the shooter immediately. In the case of violent criminals, if someone is too violent to own a firearm then they are too dangerous to be part of society.

Gun control will simply not work. It would be great, in theory, to eliminate guns, but we should have started at the inception of this country. Gun control would only deprive law abiding citizens from owning firearms that are used in self defense and hunting.

I think weapons should be accessed by all able bodied and able minded individuals that are of adult age. I think people have the right to defend themselves and if criminals knew every house had a weapon to defend themselves it would deter a lot of crime. I also think parents should lock up firearms in a biometric scanner safe or key lock safe. I think firearm safety should be taught in school and I think human life should be taught how valuable it is in school also. I think basic human and adult skills should be taught in school.

if we took guns away criminals will always be able to get guns and that leaves law abiding citizens defenselss

I am more concerned about citizens having the right to bare arms yes there are bad cases that happen but we live In America where the u.s gives us the freedom to have guns and with that freedom comes a risk that there are incidents and accidents that are gonna happen same thing with driving we have the freedom to drive but there also comes a risk we might crash and there are gonna be accidents

While this seems reasonable, this could potentially lead to further restrictions against legal owners. It also infringes the 2nd amendment which, while does not explicitly state that every citizen has the right to a gun, implies it.

People who buy and register guns do not need to have professional training in order to have a gun and you don't need someone to "believe" you can own a gun. If you are buying the firearm and everything, you don't need to be told what to do or told if you can have one or not, bad past or not.

I agree with this comment in most respects. I think you should be allowed to own guns, but should need a license to use it in any case. People with criminal backgrounds/mental illnesses should not be given access to guns.

I agree with this statement. I think it should be a lot harder to purchase a gun. I think there should be a lot of tests and background checks. It has become too easy.

 @B9HG2P5Democrat from Missouri  agreed…6mos6MO

I agree, the danger doesn't lie in the gun itself but in those who are unfit to bear it. However, I think that certain guns shouldn't be allowed even if someone passes a background check, psychological test, and professional training. Your average person should never be trusted with a weapon above a hunting gun.

 @B9H48BP from California  agreed…6mos6MO

I do agree with this comment, as mental health and stigmas surrounding it are much bigger issues than simply guns existing in America.

 @B9H48HF from California  disagreed…6mos6MO

I think anybody with serious offenses shouldn't be able to use guns, I also think that before buying one the person needs to be qualified and mentally stable

 @B9H9YHD from New Jersey  disagreed…6mos6MO

Just keep the gun somewhere safe or on the side of your pocket so people don't think your a bad guy or something

 @B9H4LZJ from Minnesota  disagreed…6mos6MO

The 2nd amendment and the case of McDonald v. Chicago allow for the gun personal gun ownership without government interference.
