Yes and no? If the social media app's algorithm is at fault (ie purposefully pushing harmful content onto someone because the algorithm beleives they will enjoy/engage with that content) then yes, the company should be held liable. Harmful content should be purposefully demoted and hard to find. However, there is a point where you can't really control a user's behavior, if one really wants to look up harmful content then you can't really stop that. There's also the issue of individual user interactions, you can't entirely control what one user sends to another user. Ultimately that's my stance, it's a complex topic with an unclear answer.

.I agree with this comment about social media regulation. Social media has a big influence on people, especially young users, and some rules can help keep users safe from harm and misinformation. Speaking up about this is important because it encourages others to share their views and helps create a more responsible online space

I agree, we must also acknowledge the horror done by individuals, but in cases like Myanmar where Facebook was effectively complacent in genocide, companies should be held accountable.

I agree. Social media itself is a tool, there is no actual inherent harm. The companies have designed their platforms to generate money, that is why it is often seen as toxic. When people's self esteem is low, it's easier to sell them things to make them "better." On top of this, it can be a dangerous place. It falls on the companies to monitor and report those who seek to harm others or communities.

Social media companies absolutely should be held accountable for their role to protect harm before it occurs through use of their site, and should be entirely transparent about their algorithmic-content and regulatory processes. Additionally, clauses in agreement forms holding that users are not allowed to sue the company should be declared completely unconstitutional, as individuals have the right the protect themselves and gain reparation for all harms.

I think that there should be help accountable for their role to protect harm because the incident happened in the social media platform and their filtering system failed to work to protect the user so this should be why they should be help accountable.

i agree because social media platforms have the resources and responsibility to create a platform that is not harmful for users

I agree with it. It is the responsibility of social media companies to mandate what is going on in their app.
