Should the government mandate that large tech companies share their algorithms with regulators?
No, only if there are serious allegations of harm or misconduct
Yes and no?
If the social media app's algorithm is at fault (ie purposefully pushing harmful content onto someone because the algorithm beleives they will enjoy/engage with that content) then yes, the company should be held liable. Harmful content should be purposefully demoted and hard to find. However, there is a point where you can't really control a user's behavior, if one really wants to look up harmful content then you can't really stop that. There's also the issue of individual user interactions, you can't entirely control what one user sends to another user. Ultimately that's my stance, it's a complex topic with an unclear answer.
