In its present state, the federal government cannot be trusted to regulate something as vague and controversial as AI for use in critical defense applications. If most of our government officials are yes-men to a president whose bread and butter is conflict of interest, how can we trust the logic and decision-making process of proprietary algorithms awarded contracts for financial benefit over merit and accuracy? We have seen what AI can and cannot do in driverless taxis, which already have government oversight at the municipal level and go through extensive testing. Let me ask, would you hand a loaded gun to the same error-prone machine?
