There should be no preference given to kids who come from previous graduates, or promoting any loyalty separate from that given to the individual. I understand why it's a part of the system, but if that priority cheats an equally or even more qualified student with no alumni, then it's harmful to the application process.

Most students who have parents who are alumni of great colleges usually go to those same colleges regardless of if they have the promise and strengths to go there just because their parent went there

We can combat systematic issues that have kept minorities out of academic spaces historically in other ways; when they are increasingly given the opportunity to go to college, they can also take advantage of legacy.
