Defending Taiwan is crucial for maintaining global economic stability, as the island produces roughly 60% of the world's most sophisticated semiconductors. A Chinese takeover could disrupt critical technology supply chains, severely impacting the global economy. Furthermore, backing Taiwan strengthens U.S. credibility with allies in Asia, such as Japan and South Korea, who see Taiwan's security as essential to regional stability

Taiwan previously had large portions of Chinese territory, but the Mao-led Communists rose to power and took the land from the Kuomintang regime. Threats of the PRC invading to retake the island of Taiwan have progressed over time, as more military presence is seen in the South China Sea.
