Should funding for local police departments be redirected to social and community based programs?
Yes, replace police with unarmed community based responders for non-violent calls
Without a credible threat of force, violent criminals would be emboldened, and non-violent criminals would be emboldened to become violent. Without an arm to enforce the law, the law is as good as void.

#5 Engaged Defunding the Police
People are going to break the law no matter what, so defunding the police is only going to hurt more people. Police officers protect the public. They should defintely be able to carry guns, because if they dont have any threat of force, then they have no real impact on the criminals.

We should most definitely keep the police. Any government service position like firefighters, paramedics, and police should be kept to enforce the law and to protect citizens. The issue is that tax we have to pay for that, and it's what's making citizens ask for the defending of the police. The rich needs to get taxed so that we could put less pressure on citizens, and to enjoy what we really have.

Yes, I agree with this commenter. Defunding the police will definitely lead to more violent crimes, with more casualties and innocent bystanders being in harm's way. If the complaint people have is that the police are violent, rash, and not well-trained, then it would actually make more sense to increase the funding given to them so the training can improve. There is no point in having laws if we have no one to enforce them, because it is human nature to push the limits of the law, and the US would fall into chaos as a result.
