There are many reasons a woman should be allowed to terminate a pregnancy: rape, incest, various medical/health reasons, etc.
If a pregnancy is terminated before a certain term or time period, it is not “ending a life,” because at that point, there was no life to begin with.

In regards to abortion being made to feel like the “only option,” I don’t believe that is the case. While I do believe sex education needs to be mandated in schools and updated to more relevant, present-day standards, I also believe the vast majority are aware of other options of birth control…  Read more

A woman deserves the right to choose what happens to her own body. It doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. It is her body and her life. Life doesn't truly begin until birth. It a woman was raped and she doesn't want to subject herself or her child to a life knowing that connection, she should be able to choose. There is no reason a mother should have to listen to anyone else about her own body.

I stand on pro-choice. A baby's heart does not start to beat until 5-6 weeks into the pregnancy and although at a certain time it does become more than a fetus it is still gaining its 5 senses in and out of the womb. A baby after birth isn't even capable of thinking realistically. Although it sees and hears things its a natural response that happens after birth from humans and animals. Both lives should be protected yes, but if the caregiver is not in a right state and has decided she does not want the baby, then right then and there should the possible "mother to be" be…  Read more

While I agree there should be more support for pregnant women, women should be able to choose. What happens in the case of an etopic pregnancy. The options are for both the mother and baby to die or just the baby as in this situation the baby isn't viable anyway

There are a lot of agreeable stances here, like "women in hard situations need real help, not shame or pressure." and "Instead of making abortion feel like the only option, our communities and government should do more to support mothers through pregnancy, birth, and raising a child." I can agree with these claims but I think that women should still be able to get an abortion. It should be their choice if they want the baby and it doesn't affect the unborn in any way. Women should still have the choice along with help through whatever they choose.

Life does not begin at conception because when you are a clump of cells you have no consciousness meaning you wouldn’t feel it if you aborted the cells.

 @BDHHZ8BDemocrat  from Michigan  disagreed…1mo1MO

As someone who will always be pro-choice, I find the argument that life begins at conception rather redundant and entirely incorrect. As cited by a paper published by New York University, "It is widely believed that consciousness requires a thalamocortical structure, and this system develops at around 26 weeks of pregnancy, so it is unlikely that consciousness is present before that time," which ties into the concept of consciousness correlating with life. Furthermore, a heartbeat doesn't start until 10-12 weeks of gestation. As abortions are typically conducted within the first 13 weeks of a pregnancy, it is simply scientifically incorrect to say that life begins at conception. That would be like saying life begins at ejaculation, which is also fundamentally wrong.

I do not believe a fetus is a child. Until there is brain activity or consciousness, the mother's life takes precedent every time because the mother is the one who is living. Healthcare is a human right and religious/disproven science should not prevent that. Not only that, but restrictions on women's healthcare opens up the possibility to do the same for other marginalized communities.

Women should have the right to choose, because they should not be forced to carry a baby and have the child when it poses a significant threat to their mental or physical health. Women die from carrying and having babies, or if a women becomes pregnant from a violent or sexual crime it's her right to chose what she wants to do. She should not be forced to relieve that trauma for nine months while the baby is in the womb.

Even though financial stability is important, some people believe that the moral status of the unborn child means it should still be protected, regardless of economic circumstances. From this view, ending a pregnancy because of poverty treats the potential life as something that can be ended due to convenience or hardship, which they see as ethically wrong.

They might also argue that instead of abortion, the focus should be on expanding support systems—like childcare assistance, healthcare, housing aid, adoption services, and financial programs—so that people are not forced to choo…  Read more

I stand on pro-choice because I believe not everyone has the sufficient sources or abilities to take care of a child.

 @BDKDGW4from Maine  disagreed…1mo1MO

What are you proposing to support the mother's life and the cost/time of raising a child? Currently, we have a high rate of maternal mortality in areas of the country with the strictest abortion laws, with limited access to childcare and support after birth. I believe if you're arguing for pro-life, I am curious how you mean to balance these issues as well.

 @BDH8G69Democrat from Texas  disagreed…1mo1MO

I stand on the pro-choice side because I believe that up untill a certain point in the term of pregnacy you should be able to terminate.

 @BDJQ4YQ  from Indiana  disagreed…1mo1MO

I think pro choice because what if someone is raped? what if a child is raped? do they have to carry that?

 @BDJZCJY from Pennsylvania  disagreed…1mo1MO

I believe no human being should be obligated to support the life of another, why is the pregnant woman forced to use her body to sustain other? I do not believe life begins before birth and the pregnant person should be able to choose 100%.

 @BDK85LF  from Georgia  disagreed…1mo1MO

exactly the baby is still a human life even if its unborn i look at it like its murder I mean you are killing a tiny human just because of people in this world and i get that people are cruel but that baby could be the best thing that has ever happened to you so why should we care what people think why should we care what they say it's not their decision it is ours and if we are proud of this baby then let it be but at least give the baby a chance because we won't know if we don't try.

 @BDH7M9X from New York  disagreed…1mo1MO

If it was a 10 year old girl who got raped, would you still be pro-life? That man would disappear and never pay child Support and most likely be imprisoned if he was even caught. It would be a child raising a child.

 @BDH46HSDemocrat from Minnesota  disagreed…1mo1MO

Abortion is not the ONLY option, and the pressure women feel is often from people wanting them to keep the child. I do not believe life begins before birth - the baby has no idea it exists yet.

 @BDH86HP  from Idaho  disagreed…1mo1MO

There are cases where abortion is the only option for a woman as going into labor could end up taking her life. Abortion should be an option for those who are inexperienced or don’t wish to throw away a future they have been working towards their whole life just because they made one mistake. Also for some woman they are forcibly impregnated. Forcing a woman to go through a pregnancy and then raising the spawn of their abuser is beyond cruel.

 @BDH92S7 from Utah  agreed…1mo1MO

I fully agree with this position. There are solutions that can protect both the baby and the mother.

 @BDH42MY from New York  agreed…1mo1MO

I disagree because fetuses are not fully formed in the early stages of pregnancy and are nothing like actual humans. Sometimes providing help can still make things too hard on the mother, making having the baby not worth it.

 @BDH3MN5Green  from Florida  agreed…1mo1MO

I agree. I heard one stat that showed it would be cheaper to help the mother than to kill the baby. Also mothers areore likely twice as likely to keep the baby after hearing the baby's heartbeat.

 @BDJK2NCRepublican  from Arkansas  agreed…1mo1MO

I fully agree with this statement I feel like its murder either way and abortion can sort of mask that in a sense. The mother's life is also important as well, that's why I agree with the statement that the government should do more to support pregnancy and raising a child. There are also alternatives that the mother can take such as adoption rather than killing a life that could make a great impact on the world.

 @BDJHWTM from Arkansas  agreed…1mo1MO

I agree babies shouldn't be killed, because their mother or father, wanted to be a idiot one night, its not the babies fault it shouldn't die!

 @BDHTRYBRepublican from Wisconsin  agreed…1mo1MO

I agree with this statement because a dead thing can not just become alive, the cells that turn into children are always living. These babies are always alive and always will be until they live their full life. Babies deserve the right to live and get the same opportunities as everyone else whether or not they were planned.
