The Senate Judiciary Committee announced Tuesday that confirmation hearings for Todd Blanche, the nominee for U.S. Attorney General, will begin on July 15. Blanche is currently serving as the Acting Attorney General after the President’s previous pick was removed from consideration.
While he has secured endorsements from major law enforcement groups, key Republican senators like John Cornyn remain undecided on his nomination. Critics, including the New York Times editorial board, argue his past work as the President's personal lawyer makes him unfit for an independent justice system.
Blanche will spend the coming weeks meeting with lawmakers to try and secure the 51 votes required for a permanent appointment.
