Hurt, by demanding higher wages and better hours, the company they work for will be forced to sell their goods for higher in order to make the same profits

 @9ZPVCPVRepublican from California  answered…11mos11MO

depends if it turns into a violent riot that could happen in a union could be bad for economy or a long strike no jobs no work America would have a damaged economy

 @9X4HZBCRepublican from Pennsylvania  answered…11mos11MO

Unions were created for the workers, which I think that it should remain that way, but when they start demanding money from the government, is where I tend to disagree.

 @9X3YFP5Republican from Ohio  answered…11mos11MO

No opinion on economic impact, but public unions should be banned from making political contributions.

 @9W733V8Republican from Texas  answered…12mos12MO

Help and hurt. The people need a voice but sometimes that means the public suffers when they go on strike.

 @9TTD33CRepublican from Nebraska  answered…1yr1Y

they can be helpful or hurtful depending on whether or not they are to powerful and aggressive or if they are peaceful

 @9S59WDCConstitution from North Dakota  answered…1yr1Y

Help, but should be banned from making political donations or making any attempt to sway the voting decisions of their members and should be banned from requiring people to join them to be employed at certain jobs.

 @9S4GSMWConstitution from Washington  answered…1yr1Y

Hurt, the only people that benefit from unions are the few people in charge and their politicians they back.

 @9RPCYC7Republican from Virginia  answered…1yr1Y

I believe in unions that take down corrupt companies but not a socialist sense rather an anti globalization monopoly sense

 @CurvyletterConstitution answered…1yr1Y

Hurt, by increasing labor costs, reducing adaptability to market changes, and sometimes causing disruptions through strikes or work stoppages

 @98L9PYJRepublican  from Michigan  answered…1yr1Y

Help, but it needs to be easier to fire people who can't do their job or accused and have proof with horrible allegations.

 @9LZZFM2Republican from Tennessee  answered…1yr1Y

Help, but only when there is truly a need for the labor unions. They can grow out of control and should be regulated.

 @9KV2786Republican from Illinois  answered…2yrs2Y

unions are nice yes but certain jobs teachers etc deserve more money or our economy will crash and we will have no teachers and no public education

 @9KTJSSHRepublican from Florida  answered…2yrs2Y

Labor unions are a necessary check on employers, but most current labor unions are more hindrance than help for rank and file labor.

 @9J7N226Republican from Arizona  answered…2yrs2Y

I don't think they affect the economy, someone is going to get paid for their labor whether it's the corporation or the individual.

 @9J2PW83Republican from Nevada  answered…2yrs2Y

I think it depends on the individual case, firmly neutral until it interacts with the surrounding society

 @9HYB43NRepublican  from Tennessee  answered…2yrs2Y

When unions work for the worker rather than work against the employer they are beneficially to the economy and protect the rights of workers. However, when they strictly work against the employer they hinder the economy and can cause severe damage.

 @9HGBC8WConstitution from Kentucky  answered…2yrs2Y

Help AND Hurt. Help when clean and optional and not donating money to crooked politicians. Hurt when mandatory, corrupt and paying off crooked politicians

 @9H9HKL5Republican from Ohio  answered…2yrs2Y

I think that labor unions do both at the same time. They help the working class but they also keep the guys that does not show up to work as well.

 @9H73QHGConstitution from Massachusetts  answered…2yrs2Y

Neither, I tolerate collective bargaining but I prefer individual negotiation for wages and salaries

 @9H25XR6Republican from North Carolina  answered…2yrs2Y

Labor Unions in most cases help the economy by protecting the employee, in some cases such as strikes and walkouts they hurt the economy.

 @9GD7Y7MRepublican from Kansas  answered…2yrs2Y

Help and hurt, while they can protect the interests of the worker, given too much power via overly broad protections and mandatory (closed shop) status, they can drag the whole system down with their greed.

 @8G68N7XConstitution from Tennessee  answered…5yrs5Y

Hurt, They had their place in time, now they mostly take away good work ethics.

 @9DWT6M4Constitution  from Washington  answered…2yrs2Y

Hurt, get rid of unions since all they care about is the leadership in said union.

 @8PTYM3KRepublican from Texas  answered…5yrs5Y

They help in theory but if corruption is suspected, it should be investigated along with any political donations they give if they are found to be corrupt.

 @4V4VGHMConstitutionanswered…2yrs2Y

 @96DPT78Republican from Idaho  answered…3yrs3Y

 @95ZS8RHConstitution from Pennsylvania  answered…3yrs3Y

Labor unions should be temporary while they achieve their goal, and dissolve when an agreement is made

 @95CH6QQRepublican from Oklahoma  answered…3yrs3Y

Help and hurt they should be reorganized and reformed to the union worker and employee

 @95C9P92Constitution from Mississippi  answered…3yrs3Y

Both; Even though many are corrupt I support some private unions but would like to see public unions disbanded, and no union (or company) should be able to make political donations.

 @94H3C8VRepublican from Massachusetts  answered…3yrs3Y

 @933K4DPRepublican from New Jersey  answered…3yrs3Y

I believe that labor unions are essential to ensuring that the dignity of workers is respected through reasonable wages and adequate workplace safety, etc. In light of this, it is also important to ensure they do not abuse their collective bargaining power, as some have in the past. Though there are many unions whose work is beneficial to all parties involved, there are also plenty of labor unions and related entities that have misplaced their moral compasses.

 @93NMPPCRepublican from New York  answered…3yrs3Y

Help however ban labor unions ability to fund political campaigns and planned parenthood

 @93JCH7ZRepublican from Florida  answered…3yrs3Y

Help only in private sector, monitored for political corruption and ban from making political donation. Public sector unions are unconstitutional and must be outlawed.

 @939GBQPRepublican from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

Help, but can become corrupt and should have their powers limited, they should not be able to make political donations and I am against public unions.

 @8ZDJ95DConstitution from Washington  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8ZC6H3VRepublican from Missouri  answered…4yrs4Y

I think they have a right to exist, but they are too influential in politics. They hurt the policies put in place in America.

 @8YJVDWCRepublican from Pennsylvania  answered…4yrs4Y

I think both, they help drive up wages but they are very corrupt and sometimes a pain.

 @8WQ95YCRepublican from Kansas  answered…4yrs4Y

Help as long as they focus on economic issues as opposed to social issues

 @8WDSK78Republican from South Carolina  answered…4yrs4Y

Labor unions can hurt and hurt both the economy it just depends on how the look at it.

 @8W9LS56Republican from Utah  answered…4yrs4Y

Even after "learning more" I do not know enough to answer this question

 @8VZY8Y9Republican from Arizona  answered…4yrs4Y

Help, they make the voices of workers heard, but money should not be involved

 @8TM8KRXRepublican from Texas  answered…4yrs4Y

Labor unions can be good in certain circumstances like getting healthcare or a wage increase but they are also bad like when teachers go on strike in the middle of the school year or certain necessities to society are halted to to a strike

 @8TDFXG8Republican from Texas  answered…4yrs4Y

In many circumstances unions help protect worker rights. The unions today are corrupted and should have their power limited on top of banning campaign donations to anyone running for political office.

 @8H7DQVCRepublican from Ohio  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8SZ7MHBRepublican from North Carolina  answered…4yrs4Y

Trade labor unions provide a means to obtain workers with appropriate skills. Unions should function as a business revising a needed commodity (skilled, qualified labor). No worker should be forced to join union as a condition to f employment. Unions should concentrate on providing qualified labor to support the employers business operation.

 @8SYGDDRRepublican from New York  answered…4yrs4Y

they hurt the economy they act like children and create a toxic workplace environment and block proper flow of production with their drama

 @8SXTVQMRepublican from California  answered…4yrs4Y

They have done both. Unions serve a purpose, but there are time they have hurt the economy. The money used for lobbying is a concern.

 @8SWN8FJRepublican from Minnesota  answered…4yrs4Y

Hurt, but they are necessary to ensure workers get paid the right amount for their job.

 @8SRRBSTRepublican from Washington  answered…4yrs4Y

Hurt, and they help the Democrats cheat by stealing workers' salaries to pay for Democrat campaigns.

 @8S7Y3GPRepublican from Illinois  answered…4yrs4Y

Private sector unions should be allowed, public sector union are ridiculous.

 @8RRMM6LRepublican from Florida  answered…5yrs5Y

it doesn't really matter does it, I think labor unions has both good and bad sides to them but grats to them for using their system.

 @8RPYF7XRepublican from California  answered…5yrs5Y

Hurt, but the government should leave unions alone in the public sector. I am strongly against public sector unions.

 @8RJS6QRRepublican from Oklahoma  answered…5yrs5Y

They help and should be federalized and to be under the Department of Labor.

Hurt, they were important years ago, but have become guardians of lazy incompetent workers

 @8L68PV7Republican from Missouri  answered…5yrs5Y

 @8JVG7W7Republican from Missouri  answered…5yrs5Y

Labor unions are hyper politicized and some tell employees how to vote, and I don’t like the targeting of non union workers by trade unions. I do like how they support their workers, but has to be within reason/sustainable

 @8JRCT3DRepublican from Kansas  answered…5yrs5Y

Help, but need to realize they can bargain their membership right out of work if they aren’t realistic with wage rate expectations.

 @8JD8FCSRepublican from Colorado  answered…5yrs5Y

It depends on where unions are within company and keep crookness out of the loop

 @8J43QWJRepublican from Massachusetts  answered…5yrs5Y

Help, in the cases of labor and trade unions by providing a path for employment and training, but harm in most other (public and service unions) instances.

 @8HT9LZ2Constitution from Montana  answered…5yrs5Y

Unions help and are constitutional under the 1st amendment right to petition and protest.

 @BobBeastaRepublicanfrom Maine  answered…5yrs5Y

Hurt, but they are natural elements of the economy and should not be protected or enshrined
