The government could intelligently lower spending by monitoring how the money is spent, like not spending 5 billion on a camo that blends in with nothing and gets soldiers killed

  @9CJ6CB6 from Virginia  commented…2yrs2Y

It’s actually mostly congress that makes the military waste so much. Few senators actually are in the military, and often have no idea what it really needs besides the vague advice of those who do know. If possible, we’d need to separate congress and the military’s funding. Maybe they could get money from an independent agency?

 @9DH6YBWLibertarian from Washington  answered…2yrs2Y

Decrease in times where the military is not an immediate need to the country, and increase when times of war or conflict are presented.

 @9D5R29BLibertarian from Tennessee  answered…2yrs2Y

It depends on circumstances. All programs should be continually scrutinized for effectiveness and efficiency.

 @9D5GTHFLibertarian from Ohio  answered…2yrs2Y

The military should adopt an isolationist attitude until we can solve our debt crisis. A vote from the people and then congress should be presented before ANY action.

 @97JW8SKLibertarian from Virginia  answered…3yrs3Y

Decrease to help support other government programs (health care, public schools,etc.).

 @9ZGYJBQLibertarian from Idaho  answered…10mos10MO

We should decrease it a little and give that money to welfare and other programs to help the poor but not seriously cut the budget.

 @9YMZRJ6Libertarian from Missouri  answered…11mos11MO

I like being a world leader in military power, but wasteful spending should be reallocated to infrastructure.

 @9YGXXXKLibertarian from South Carolina  answered…11mos11MO

Companies such as boeing and whoever makes military equipment etc, should stop overcharging for military made equipment.

 @9YFBG2RLibertarian from Florida  answered…11mos11MO

Keep current spending, increase sales to our allies and use the profits to increase the military budget

 @9YDVPGQLibertarian from Indiana  answered…11mos11MO

Decreasing spending only results in service members losing their benefits, not an actual reduction in equipment spending.

 @9YDM2FZLibertarian from Kansas  answered…11mos11MO

Spend more money to take care of those who serve the country. Better insurance, better living conditions, they should not be taxed if they are deployed.

 @9Y74JJMLibertarian from Florida  answered…11mos11MO

neither. we should stop being the worlds police force and wasting time resources and blood for countires that would never do the same thing for us.

 @9Y2Y4DHLibertarian from New York  answered…11mos11MO

Decrease spending on foreign security programs to use on ourselves until other countries hit their quotas

 @9XLQ5L7Libertarian from California  answered…11mos11MO

Decrease military spending that involves operations and assets utilized by NATO and foreign governments

 @9XHXPYPLibertarian from California  answered…11mos11MO

The money should be better spent to reduce waste. The quantity is not the issue, the reallocation and poor financial management is.

 @9XGC9T5Libertarian from Texas  answered…11mos11MO

Decrease in specific areas, be nice if the Pentagon would complete an Audit of spending. We need to reduce some of our Deficit first

 @9XFKLMXLibertarian from Indiana  answered…11mos11MO

Keep the funding the same but restructure and withdraw from most foreign countries. Stop endless wars.

 @9XFCLQ2Libertarian from Wisconsin  answered…11mos11MO

The budgets need to be reformed so that if a unit doesn't use their budget it doesn't decrease the next year. This would stop alot of unnecessary spending.

 @9WYPCLLLibertarian from Virginia  answered…11mos11MO

Some spending should decrease, but some should increase. It depends on exactly what the money is going towards.

 @9WTPZJZLibertarianfrom Maine  answered…11mos11MO

Procurement is very inefficient. That needs fixing. The US is a force for good. Enemies of the US should fear its military might.

 @9WQMLRSLibertarian from Virginia  answered…11mos11MO

Government spending should decrease or increase depending on the need. If we are in War Times then I feel Military Spending should increase. But if we are in peace time then government spending should decrease.

 @9WJQ44JLibertarian from California  answered…11mos11MO

I would like to see a change in our current foreign policy, decrease spending abroad and use the money domestically.

 @9WHDLR9Libertarian from Alaska  answered…11mos11MO

Maintior decrease total spent, but the percentage spent on housing, insurance and personnel pay needs to be increased.

 @9W3M36TLibertarian from Mississippi  answered…11mos11MO

i personally think that it would be fine if they did increase it but they don't have to if its not needed

 @9VJBL8XLibertarian from Texas  answered…12mos12MO

There should be a redistributing of funding for military spending to increase the welfare of the soldiers and shift spendings from multi-million-dollar equipment to spendings on the foundation of the military, the troops.

 @9V9SS8ZLibertarian from North Carolina  answered…12mos12MO

The government should only spend how much is fit to defend our country and the countries we are protecting.

 @9TPXP8YLibertarian from Virginia  answered…1yr1Y

Increase, but rethink how we are spending that money. Money is wasted on contracts when it should be spent on retaining personnel.

 @9TLQXDDLibertarian from California  answered…1yr1Y

Government waste and abuse needs to be addressed. The government does not need to spend MORE money on military, it desperately needs to audit the funds it currently spends.

 @9THP4F7Libertarian from New York  answered…1yr1Y

Although, spending does help to improve the economy overall extreme militery spending is not neccecary in times of peace

 @9THJ7LPLibertarian from Texas  answered…1yr1Y

The military focus needs to be realigned such that the spending is appropriately focused on national security.

 @9TFVBSPLibertarian from Texas  answered…1yr1Y

The government should re-balance the checkbook of the military to use tax payer money more effectively

 @9T7BBGTLibertarian from Ohio  answered…1yr1Y

The funding that is already allocated should have full accountability. Our defense spending into our own uses (not to be donated to another entity for use) may be increased after full accountability is implemented. There should not be lost money.

 @9SXQQ8ZLibertarian from Texas  answered…1yr1Y

A balanced approach ensures that national security is maintained while also addressing domestic needs and promoting a comprehensive strategy for global engagement.

 @9SR26DZLibertarian from Ohio  answered…1yr1Y

Both, they should decrease unnecessary spending but they should increase health care and veteran care spending.

 @9SC8XQKLibertarian from North Carolina  answered…1yr1Y

Neither, allow rollover in all department budgets to prevent use it or lose it spending and to allow higher spending in other departments that need it.

 @9S8CDSQLibertarian from Kansas  answered…1yr1Y

I’m a proponent of military spending, however, the oversight and audit controls are not what they should be. i.e. $400 hammers

 @9S7P3V4Libertarian from California  answered…1yr1Y

Decrease, AND have an official PUBLIC audit investigation conducted on EXACTLY where and how that budget is being spent, because we are somehow both in MASSIVE debt, but still somehow have the funds to wage unnecessary wars and fund genocides in other countries. (Also, more often than not they treat our Vets very poorly and refuse to help them after being discharged, anyway.)

 @9S62PVNLibertarian from Ohio  answered…1yr1Y

The overwhelming majority of military spending goes to either retirees or private military contracts with enormous military corporations. Good luck.

 @9S57TLTLibertarian from Virginia  answered…1yr1Y

Decrease but do this by auditing the supply chain and cost of parts/supplies. If the government requires it they should be supplied at wholesale price

 @9RXNTLBLibertarian from New Jersey  answered…1yr1Y

Reduce admin bloat first, while decreasing DEI requirements so that we have a capable military first. Then perform audits to recover lost funds being misappropriated to various contractors or foreign subsidiaries. THEN replace current admin with capable peacemakers to instill treaties with Russia and other “enemies” in an attempt to reduce risk of war. THEN increase funding for research into better tech to keep more troops safer, and train troops to be #1 again

 @9RWJTNJLibertarian from Ohio  answered…1yr1Y

Decrease until they can account for ALL of their current spending. Too much money going to killing people instead of improving the lives of the living.

 @9RJQHMZLibertarian from Virginia  answered…1yr1Y

Neither, but certain military sectors need to become more efficient through removal of low individual performers

 @9QZ8PYMLibertarian from Georgia  answered…1yr1Y

Yes, and no. I think it should only be increased if there’s new equipment coming available, or if anything needs to be updated in general.

 @9QX6DZ9Libertarian from Utah  answered…1yr1Y

I think our military is incredible and I would like to see our military spending stay within the country// go to our bases. I don’t think we should be supplying weaponry//funding to other countries military.

 @@ebfreeLibertarian from Colorado  answered…1yr1Y

Decrease, we should get out of our 'forever wars,' but still ensure we are well-prepared for any future threats.

 @9QPRJP3Libertarian from Virginia  answered…1yr1Y

Increase, in the areas of veteran support and well being as well as areas of mental health wellness and assistance for active duty and vets as well as their dependents.

 @9QKYHPDLibertarian from Virginia  answered…1yr1Y

Increase, but with more oversight to ensure funding is being spent on the right things and reduce waste fraud and abuse.

 @9PT6TV7Libertarian  from Missouri  answered…1yr1Y

Neither, However I disagree with so much of our money going toward foreign aid, especially to countries who will not benefit us long term if conflict should arise between us and China, Russia or Iran.

 @9PGYNYGLibertarian from Oklahoma  answered…1yr1Y

We need to be more responsible with the allocation of the money spent. Veterans all over this country are suffering daily, and need to be helped and supported. We need to stop sending money to fund proxy wars and regimes across the globe.

 @9NRZVXYLibertarian from Missouri  answered…1yr1Y

neither, we need to audit every dollar spent and figure out why the government/military buys 10 dollar items for $10,000.

 @9NG4JK3Libertarian from Nevada  answered…1yr1Y

Restructure & heavily regulate
as well as create funding scources, varible cost will rise indefinintly so the Gov should create hotels, e-commerence, entertainment etc. Taxes should be only for fixed costs & public saftey. All forms of gov should be allowed to start legal and moral income scources that are independent from other businesses.

 @9N8Z2GTLibertarian from Michigan  answered…1yr1Y

Military spending should be dictated by need. The military should prepare to defend against existential threats and avoid costly missions that are unlikely to be existential (No regime change unless the U.S. military leaves after toppling the government and is not required to manage the rebuilding phase. Yes to cost-effective proxy wars like Ukraine that represent existential threats to allies in Euurope and on whom we rely for common defense. The Ukrainians are doing their own fighting and need only minimal armament to disarm one of our peer competitors.).

 @9MS62CQLibertarian from Wisconsin  answered…1yr1Y

The US military budget is almost 3x more than any of the listed amounts. Yet our service members & families are lacking. Where exactly is this money going? We shouldn't be involving ourselves, needlessly, worldwide. The US has obligations to the world but it's OK to say no sometimes.

 @9MCS7TBLibertarian from Pennsylvania  answered…1yr1Y

Decrease because there is already such a large amount of financial incompetence that occurs and that needs to be fixed. Once that gets fixed spending will decrease naturally.

 @9MBMV6CLibertarian from Virginia  answered…1yr1Y

Yes, contingent on reorienting the military toward the primary objective of protecting the country from foreign threats, protecting our strategic interests worldwide, defending our allies, and removing social engineering from training or culture within the military.

 @9MBBKTYLibertarianfrom Maine  answered…1yr1Y

stay the same but less spending on funding other countries like the current spending on shadow-wars in ukraine and russia and so on

 @9M64D7PLibertarian from Louisiana  answered…1yr1Y

Stop funding wars. Start funding more altruistic measures that benefits society such as space exploration

 @9LZP5W8Libertarian from Nevada  answered…1yr1Y

Decrease, along with a rational analysis of actual US interests and an accounting of what that would cost.

 @9LDWXWBLibertarian from Utah  answered…1yr1Y

Increase spending where it matters Decrease spending on stuff that does not benefit our nations security.

 @9LCSNGXLibertarian from New York  answered…1yr1Y

The government should do nothing more than defend the u.s. , not be used to infiltrate foreign governments and "protect our interests" by taking their natural resources.

 @9LB6J2JLibertarian from Michigan  answered…1yr1Y

I think that they should decrease military spending because there is mass production of weapons and armor that will most likely not be used so this money can go toward the economy and helping the people by lowering taxes.

 @9L74LQWLibertarian from Virginia  answered…1yr1Y

Efficiency should be the goal the fed budget system means any money saved is lost so their encouraged to spend same with individual deductions for expenses

 @9L59WDTLibertarian from Washington  answered…1yr1Y

Reallocate funding within the defense budget to focus on the homeland instead of overseas installations and campaigns. Increase pay and benefits for service members to keep pace with rising home costs and inflation

  @LucidLibertarianLibertarian  from Oregon  answered…1yr1Y

Decrease, reduce the military bases around the world, bring troops home, defend our own borders and every time the DoD fails a financial audit, their funding is decreased by that amount the following year.

 @9KWLSWVLibertarian from Ohio  answered…2yrs2Y

It should be increased in times when it seems the country is under serious threat or suspected to be.

 @9KVP56LLibertarian from California  answered…2yrs2Y

The lack of oversight and misappropriation of military funds and spending should be rectified before debating on whether or not an increase or decrease should occur.

 @9KPZJHXLibertarian from Illinois  answered…2yrs2Y

Only increase is there needs to be . Like let’s say there is a Ward breaking out or something happens where the military equipment is damaged or it’s run out then spend more funding but if nothing bad is happening to the point where we need more our military equipment then just keep the funding as it is

 @9KPRNF2Libertarian from Oregon  answered…2yrs2Y

I think the U.S. military needs to be audited to find where the incredible amount of misplaced spending is going, so as to determine if the amount we continue to feed our military is actually required for the maintenance of such a military. I believe that ultimately we should try to stay right where we are (on top)

 @9KH8G97Libertarian from Washington  answered…2yrs2Y

Decrease by cancelling all cost-plus programs and promoting competition in the military-industrial market

 @9KGM9M3Libertarian from Georgia  answered…2yrs2Y

Do a massive audit and increase money for healthcare and wages for soldiers and their dependents for life but reduce overall spending on weapons.keep current budget amount the same

 @9KC893XLibertarian from Virgin Islands  answered…2yrs2Y

Increase. History shows that there is greater world peace when we have a stronger military force and presence.

 @9KBBDRBLibertarian from Nebraska  answered…2yrs2Y

We should keep a steady amount of spending and should only increase in times of possible crisis, danger.

 @9K9CDTJLibertarian from Florida  answered…2yrs2Y

Military spending on members of the military should be a concrete ratio of military spending and not subject to cuts. (Veteran care, training, reintegration, etc)

 @9JZR8CMLibertarian from Missouri  answered…2yrs2Y

Decrease by eliminating waste, reforming contracting procedures, and significantly drawing down troops stationed overseas.

 @9JXQCT9Libertarianfrom Pennsylvania  answered…2yrs2Y

I prefer a less military heavy government that would instead rely on not only corporations but the people that provide public funding and to own firearms and to purchase PMCs.

 @9JQNCMQLibertarian from California  answered…2yrs2Y

Slightly Decrease, and spending should be directed by the military, not politicians for jobs projects

 @9JFWNHFLibertarian from Oregon  answered…2yrs2Y

Decrease by abandoning most foreign bases and bringing troops back home to be used as a defense force.

 @9JF29JPLibertarianfrom Maine  answered…2yrs2Y

A reform to reorganize funding from the ground up. A ton of US funds are lost because they are not trackable. Like a defragment of the military.

 @9J3CNTLRepublican  from Alabama  answered…2yrs2Y

Decrease some, but in a form of sending our older model equipment to countries or wars like the Russo-Ukrainian War. Or instead of spending it on more and more advanced warships that aren't in need of retirement, retain more of the older ships to be more cost effective. Another option could be to reduce the size of active duty units, making them reserves instead.

 @9HV8GNSLibertarian from South Carolina  answered…2yrs2Y

The DoD has not passed an audit in years. Funding should be withheld until tax payers know where the money is going.

 @9HV5S5YLibertarian from Oregon  answered…2yrs2Y

Decrease spending, but by cutting costs. Reduce over seas bases using large amounts of funds and review contracts for supplies. Stop overpaying massively for our equipment. Use much of the budget that has been cut to better pay troops and strengthen national defense.

 @9HV5S5YLibertarian from Oregon  answered…2yrs2Y

 @9HTMVP7Libertarian from North Carolina  answered…2yrs2Y

decrease but not too much. it gives me a sense of security knowing i live in the most heavily armed country in the world.

 @9HT2HGFLibertarian from Florida  answered…2yrs2Y

Increase pay for enlisted servicemembers. They are the lowest paid individuals in the workforce. BAS & BAH don’t pay bills, buy groceries or pay child care.

 @9HQMKL8Libertarian from Wisconsin  answered…2yrs2Y

The military budget would be good right now if they weren't spending on a deficit, so fix the debt THEN spend all that on military

 @9HMRBDTLibertarian from Iowa  answered…2yrs2Y

decrease but with the caveat that money is re-allocated with more accountability to where the money is going

 @9H9R2HSLibertarian from Nebraska  answered…2yrs2Y

Yes, but spend it on things troops actually need. Not pointless wars or helping other countries. Ensure existing troop facilities and equipment are maintained properly, repaired to new or working condition, and provided with necessary operational resources

 @9GZGB8HLibertarian from West Virginia  answered…2yrs2Y

I think the government should get our allies to increase their military budgets so we dont have to manage world peace alone.

 @9GRYQL4Libertarian from Kentucky  answered…2yrs2Y

Neither, but better evaluate ways resources are allocated and spent. Too much money is spent on over bloated and failed projects like the Zumwalt class destroyer. We need to allocate more funds to proven, practical projects and not impractical, futuristic, half baked prototypes.

 @9GH27S4Libertarian from New York  answered…2yrs2Y

The portion of the funds spent on our military is unbalanced with other vital systems that the government should be funding more.
