No

There's no other way to resolve illegal immigration crisis. We need to stop them at the boarder, and detain and deport those who enter the country illegally.

 @9G8GFZL from Texas disagreed…6mos6MO

Illegal Immigrants should be detained and expelled for any reason. They ought not be entitled to Constitutional protections as they are not US Citizens. The threshold for allowing immigration falls squarely in the wheelhouse of the Federal Government (the people). Choosing to illegally immigrate (whether border crossing or visa overstay) should be the all the character assessment required to allow them to stay. Considering each and everyday they remain in the country is a crime - they should have no retort to deportation.

 @9F5F7ZS from Minnesota disagreed…7mos7MO

If we don’t detain them what’s stopping more from coming into the US if we do nothing about the ones that are already in

 @ISIDEWITHDiscuss this answer...11yrs11Y

Yes, all illegal immigrants should be turned over to federal authorities and deported

 @9G9TKYF from Missouri disagreed…6mos6MO

Not all immigrants are involved with crime and are only looking for new opportunities to support their families and themselves. Instead, they should provide fair trial and investigation to then consider whether or not they should be deported, and if not, they should get a chance to live in America because they haven't done anything wrong but work hard and hope for a better future.

 @9H58QZSDemocratfrom Maine disagreed…5mos5MO

They should be given a chance to gain citizenship before being deported straight back to their country. especially if they already have created a life for themself

 @9H2KQZY from New Jersey disagreed…5mos5MO

Although illegal immigrants should be turned over to federal authorities and deported, illegal immigrants should be given the choice to make a change in order to ensure that they will stay in the U.S.

 @9GYL79K from California disagreed…5mos5MO

if we were to detain immigrants the population will surtainy would go down as well as constructions jobeies

 @ISIDEWITHDiscuss this answer...11yrs11Y

No, only if they are convicted of a violent crime

 @ISIDEWITHDiscuss this answer...11yrs11Y

No, too many non-violent immigrants are being deported

 @9G4ZXCZ from California agreed…6mos6MO

Why would America want to ban potential citizens from our beloved country? if our country was originally brought up my immigrants why is the country all of a sudden against it?

 @9FQ6Y66 from South Dakota agreed…7mos7MO

It is largely our own actions which have created the "border crisis." Above, I noted the ways in which we created conditions in "source" countries which have led to the migrations we're seeing. Also, we haven't properly funded immigration courts so that they can act on cases expeditiously. When someone lives in this country for years waiting for a court date, it should not be surprising that removing them at this point would be hugely disruptive to the deported person, his/her family, and often his/her US community. None of that is the fault of the immigrants.

I think that it is only fair for illegal immigrants involved in minor crimes to be referred to authorities.

 @8NKN247from Maine answered…3yrs3Y

Sometimes these immigrants dont have the money to buy themselves essentials and if they really need it they should have a bit of compassion

 @9DYQYY7Libertarian  from Arizona answered…8mos8MO

If someone commits a crime which falls under State jurisdiction due to it's nature, then it should be handled by the State. If it is a federal crime, then it should be prosecuted by the federal government. But a persons immigration status, while it can be a federal offense, should have no impact on the fair trial or treatment of the accused simply.

 @AnteaterLaylaRepublicanfrom Texas asked…8mos8MO

Would you then suggest a different approach for local law enforcement when they encounter individuals with uncertain immigration status? Or do you believe that the existing systems in place adequately address this issue?

 @8DDBNHZ from Michigan answered…4yrs4Y

Illegal immigrants should be transferred to federal immigration authorities if they have committed any other crimes. If they have been law abiding, they should be given an opportunity to become legal immigrants or be deported.

 @9GZDTYYIndependent from Maryland answered…5mos5MO

Yes, local law enforcement should be allowed to transfer immigrants to federal immigration authorities no matter what crime if they were found to be illegal

 @9FK25GX from Connecticut answered…7mos7MO

No and abolish the police and ICE

  @9CJ6CB6 from Virginia commented…7mos7MO

Okay, ICE I can understand, but destroying the police without drastic social changes we’d be unprepared. Work to make the police force less on the violent side, replace some of them with social workers and reduce qualified immunity. Lord needs to be done, but cold abolition is a really bad idea right now.

 @8VRZZFSIndependent from Missouri answered…3yrs3Y

 @8W5HJMCWorkers from Florida answered…3yrs3Y

it depends on the crime if it causes mental problems to the victim in the future then yes if not then they should have mandatory community service but in the case of a violent crime then they should be convicted

 @8LSMGD6 from Missouri answered…3yrs3Y

Illegal immigrants should work towards gaining their citizenship. This is a hard process, but in order to live in this country one should have legal citizenship. However, one cannot come into this country illegally and expect to get away with minor crimes. They should be punished justly according to the constitution, this may include deportation. However, it is a definite deportation for larger crimes, or a higher punishment for crimes such as rape or murder.

 @8LS2JK9 from Connecticut answered…3yrs3Y

Yes, as they are not citizens here they should be more aware of their actions.

 @8LR3WX9Constitution from Texas answered…3yrs3Y

Crime-committing illegal immigrants should be detained and deported, however, make it official with the entire deported's family on which country they need to choose to stay in for the rest of their citizenship

 @8LQTFM7 from Massachusetts answered…3yrs3Y

I think "deported" is a strong word and they should be put in jail like everyone else.

 @9LKTFVZ from California answered…4 days4D

No, only if they are convicted of a violent crime and no, too many non-violent immigrants are being deported

 @9LK99GZ from Michigan answered…4 days4D

Yes, but the immigration authority shouldn't resort to deportation unless the individual doesn't meet certain requirements.

 @multiplegeese  from Washington answered…1wk1W

No, this will lead to more over-policing of marginalized communities in pursuit of evidence of minor crimes

 @9LG9WMY from Virginia answered…1wk1W

To rule out deportation on an immigrant for minor crimes could be seen as a hate crime in of itself and should be rethought if the decision ever came down to it. Also, not all immigrants are violent and the stereotype isn't much of a help when the "people" in power abuse it to their best ability.

 @9LF5TKX  from New Jersey answered…2wks2W

if the person has filed for international protection they should be held accountable to laws as any citizen would be

 @9LBPWC9 from Indiana answered…2wks2W

Yes, but only if they committed a crime. This shouldn't be an excuse to profile & deport any one that may or may not have a green card.

 @9L7NX98 from South Carolina answered…3wks3W

They should have the same las applied as a typical citizen but should also have a trial by ury and all the same rights.

 @9L7N2XG from New York answered…3wks3W

Yes and they should be turned to federal authorities and be taken out from the United States of America as it is to protect the liberties of American citizens from foreign invasion and domestic violence.

 @7YS3KJPIndependent  from Arizona answered…3wks3W

It would depend on the number of nonviolent immigrants being detained under this law and the state of the existing research on this issue.

 @7RJVGXB  from Washington answered…4wks4W

The term "minor crimes" is too vague. That aside, major crimes such as violence felonies should result in a being turned over to federal immigration authorities. Minor crimes should be taken into consideration after a certain accumulated amount.

 @9L3XM82 from North Carolina answered…4wks4W

No, but it depends on the specific crime and whether the immigrant in question has a legitimate reason to seek asylum

 @9L38HTJ from North Carolina answered…4wks4W

They should at least try to get them incorporated into the US, but violent offenders should be sent to immigration autorities.
