You believe in a society where individual freedoms are protected, and power is held by elected representatives, promoting equality and justice for all.
Liberal democracy is a political ideology that combines the principles of democracy with those of liberalism. It is characterized by fair, free, and competitive elections between multiple distinct political parties, a separation of powers into different branches of government, the rule of law in everyday life as part of an open society, and the equal protection of human rights, civil rights, civil liberties, and political freedoms for all people.
The roots of liberal democracy can be traced back to the Age of Enlightenment in the 18th century, a period that saw the emergence of ideas…

How much influence do you believe citizens should have over laws that govern them compared to elected officials?
@9LMWQF62yrs2Y
A lot more, regular people deserve more of a say in what affects THEM and what happens to THEM, elected officials are privileged and find ways around the law, run from it, and get away with things easier than a regular citizen. Citizens are the ones who will be affected and they deserve to have the most say in what exactly happens to them.

@9LLMTLDLibertarian2yrs2Y
How would that be implemented? Because you have to consider the fact that elected officials are people too and they have their own personalities, beliefs, etc. Also nearly every political office in the government allows the people there to be voted out of power if they are unsatisfactory to the people and be replaced with a candidate who is better suited to serving the people they represent. Also you didn't capitalize the letter "i", misspelled "believe", you misspelled "officials", and you forgot a period at the end of your sentence.

Have you ever changed your opinion based on someone else's argument, and what did that teach you about the value of dialogue?
@9HYQRG42yrs2Y
In liberal democracies, dialogue plays a crucial role. It allows for the exchange of diverse viewpoints and ideas, fostering understanding and often leading to more informed and balanced decisions. Through dialogue, individuals can challenge their own perspectives, consider new information, and understand the rationale behind differing opinions. This process is essential for the healthy functioning of a democracy, as it promotes tolerance, respect for differing viewpoints, and the ability to find common ground or compromise.
Dialogue in a democratic context teaches the importance of listening,… Read more

Yes I have done this many times, I am friends with many inteligient people who have strong political opinions and they have swayed my opinion very often. I used to consider myself far leaning one way but their claims moved me a little closer to the middle. This taught me how significant my indoctrination of political ideology was by my parents, and how considering the other sides opinion can broaden your understanding of politics as a whole.

@9KVT9H72yrs2Y
While we should care about the economy, the climate crisis should take priority. Companies should be incentivised to switch to eco friendly alternatives, or even subject to penalties in some cases as there are about 100 companies responsible for roughly 70% of emissions. This is due to the whole tragedy of the commons problem, where if you overuse today, you won't have enough for tomorrow, and the future will be screwed

The circle of poverty that is intentionally designed to keep lower income communities and neighborhoods from any social mobility must be completely uprooted and eliminated. Accessibility to every basic aspect of life: Healthcare, education, finances, housing, and a livelihood, has been continuously sabotaged for decades for the benefit of the wealthy class.
These institutions that provide the basic services for a societal contract must be reestablished into providing them at a robust, high quality quota so that all communities of the working class can thrive and break the circle of poverty, and this quota can, should, and must be established at the cost of the wealthy elite.

@9H765793yrs3Y
Yes, some opinions may be hateful and some can be straight flat out wrong, but they all deserve a spot at the table so we can see what people have to say and what they know. many people are just misinformed and when spouting their info they dont have enough of or were given incorrectly, theyre just bad mouthed and shut down instead of talked with and properly seeing what makes them think that way and why they could have that opinion
