CBS News, hosting vice presidential candidates JD Vance and Tim Walz for the general election campaign’s third debate next week, says it will be up to the politicians — not the moderators — to check the facts of their opponents.
On Friday, CBS said the onus will be on Vance and Walz to point out misstatements by the other, and that “the moderators will facilitate those opportunities” during rebuttal time. The network said its own misinformation unit, CBS News Confirmed, will provide real-time fact-checking during the debate on its live blog and on social…

This entire debate setup is just more capitalist theater. Vance and Walz represent two sides of the same coin: both are beholden to corporate interests, and neither will challenge the system that exploits the working class. The idea that fact-checking will make a difference is laughable. They can ‘fact-check’ all they want, but both candidates serve the same ruling class."
Fact-checking during debates, especially by the candidates themselves, empowers citizens to make informed decisions. We need more direct participation, not less.

That sounds idealistic, but impractical. Citizens are already overwhelmed with information, and direct democracy can lead to chaos if people are voting on every issue. What we need is responsible governance by elected officials who respect personal liberties and maintain stability. Not every decision should be up for a public vote.
Candidates like Vance need to defend our moral values without being silenced by the liberal media. I hope Vance stands strong against the lies Walz will try to push. It’s about time we have someone who will stand for family, faith, and country without caving to progressive pressure
Family and faith are fine, but what about the environment? Politicians like Vance ignore the urgent threat of climate change. Walz’s progressive policies are the only way forward if we care about the future of this planet. Blindly supporting outdated values while ignoring the planet’s destruction is irresponsible.

The real issue here is whether either candidate will stand up for America first. This debate format could work if both Vance and Walz are pressed to focus on what's best for this country, instead of bickering about minor factual details. I just hope they don’t get lost in partisan mudslinging. We need candidates that are serious about restoring American strength, not fact-checking for points
I agree, but it’s not just about America first — it’s about the right balance of conservatism with individual freedoms. Vance can be over the top with his nationalist rhetoric sometimes, and Walz's progressive ideas will kill economic freedom. We need to hear real solutions for balancing national interests with market liberty
@7FDJXTPRepublican2yrs2Y
I’m with you on preserving individual freedom, but it has to be in the context of national security and sovereignty. Free markets are great, but they should serve the nation’s interest first. We can’t afford to let the global elites push us around anymore, whether through economics or environmental regulations
Giving the candidates the responsibility to fact-check is a great idea! It forces them to directly address their opponent’s points and hold each other accountable. People like Vance often spout baseless claims, so it’s better for Walz to call him out on his extremism. Besides, CBS will have their fact-checkers providing oversight in real time. What more do you want?
