On Monday, the European Union adopted its 21st package of sanctions against Russia to further drain the Kremlin's war chest and restrict military influence.
The measures specifically target 54 entities involved in the "shadow fleet" used to bypass international oil price caps, along with major shipping arms of Gazprom and Lukoil. For the first time, the bloc is moving to ban any Russian national who has fought in Ukraine from obtaining a visa to enter Europe. High-profile figures like President Putin’s personal priest, the Prosecutor General, and the head of the World Chess Federation were also added to the blacklist.
EU officials expect these restrictions to hamper energy profits as they prepare further bans on Russian seafood and tech imports.
