they help the economy overall but hurt the business that has the union but if the business used the advantage they have to help the common good etc it would be even better generally assuming a perfect world that had all the variables but obviously that doesnt exist and since employees inherently have less power than their bosses they are not equally represented in a business sense without union and all parties have to be represented to have the most optimal outcome overall generally speaking for all parties involved

Help, if the companies profit from tax funded infrastructure it is imperative that workers be allowed to collectively bargain for their wages.

It depends on the unions. Most I've seen in America, has hurt more than helped. But they can be useful if done right.

Labor unions can both help and hurt the economy. When they get too powerful, they can cripple industry and drive operation costs up to the point the industry will close up shop like in the case of the steel mills.
