I think it is disrespectful to those those who fought for this country and are fighting for this country right now

 @9FF84MWPeace and Freedom from Indiana  agreed…3yrs3Y

Burning the flag is more than making a statement. It is the utter disrespect and disregard to those who have fought to raise that flag. When you burn the American flag, it shows that you only want to make a statement because there are so many other things you could do to show dissatisfaction. Burning the flag disgraces the whole country, not just what ever political statement you argue over.

 @9FD6DJJRepublican from Pennsylvania  disagreed…3yrs3Y

it symbolizes the country that we all live in, whether or not its run the way you want it to doesn't give you the right to destroy the symbol of the country you live in

 @9F4SZM8 from Texas  disagreed…3yrs3Y

If you do not care about your country and its pride, there are plenty of people who will. Go live in another country and see how you like it.

 @9GVBJ67 from Indiana  agreed…3yrs3Y

It's saying about how if you don't care about your country, then leave it and go to another country you love more and America.

 @BCYJ8CG  from Virginia  disagreed…2mos2MO

I think as Americans, that saying the American Flag is just a piece of cloth is disgraceful, not only to just everyday citizens but to everyone who has been in the military, or had family in the military. That flag represents our country, the freedoms we have, and the people who fought to get us to where we are as a country. I feel like if you think so poorly of the US, and the flag, that you want to burn it, then you should probably relocate to somewhere where you feel their flag is being better represented than ours.

 @BD2XRWR from Texas  disagreed…2mos2MO

I think as an American citizen, you have the right to think the flag is just a piece of cloth, you have freedom of speech, and that is you freely speaking. A lot believe the flag no longer aligns with the beliefs held when the flag was established, and have the right to believe it is no longer of importance. Putting down the idea of the flag does not hurt or put down people who have been in the military, as they are still respected. It just puts down the idea that the flag is sacred, as our country no longer represents what it should, so the flag feels as if it is slowly losing all meaning. Also, just because you don't agree with the government does not mean you should leave; it has always been like this, and it is your home. Just because you disagree doesn't mean you're any less valid or valuable.

 @BD2XRWR from Texas  disagreed…2mos2MO

The American flag does not represent what the country has become; the country no longer holds the same values, and people have the right to free speech, which includes burning the flag. It is a piece of cloth at this point because our country has gone to such **** that it no longer matters, nor does any politician represent what we would consider true American values. It is a sign of distress, and I believe it needs to be done in some cases.

 @BD2XMYX from Illinois  agreed…2mos2MO

I would agree because the flag was from the wars we fought, built in a war, represents us and our veterans. So no one should ever burn a flag, and if they do it's illegal and jail time.

 @9GS2CWX from Texas  disagreed…3yrs3Y

Hundreds of both men and women died fighting for that flag, so treat it worth the respect it deserves.

 @9GX8VWT from Illinois  disagreed…3yrs3Y

The flag represents the deaths of the men and women that served to give you the freedom to be an idiot and disrespect their sacrifice. If you burn the flag you are saying “yes you died for me to be able to act the way I am, and have my freedoms, but screw you I’m going to do what I want because I’m immature.”

 @9GGRRMB from West Virginia  disagreed…3yrs3Y

people should not burn the american flag because people fought and died so you could live in peace and have freedom people died protecting america and that flag so you should not be allowed to burn it that would be disrespectful to all the people who died so you could have freedom

 @9FMJ6M9Republican from Missouri  disagreed…3yrs3Y

No burnig the flag is wrong. It should ever burn the flag. If you don't like the Country you live in, then leave. Burning our flag and stomping on it is a terrible thing. It should never be allowed. People died to protect the country you live in todayit symbolizes the country that we all live in, whether or not its run the way you want it to doesn't give you the right to destroy the symbol of the country you live in.

 @9GT6CYP from Texas  disagreed…3yrs3Y

The flag represents the men and women who fought to give this country it's freedom. If you have the decency to burn the flag, you definitely have the decency to leave this country if you dislike it so much.

There are many people who have fought and died for that flag. That flag represents blood, sweat, tears that many have shed for that flag. It would be a dishonor to those who have fought to burn the flag.

 @9F9NYZV from Washington  disagreed…3yrs3Y

Our founding fathers created that symbol you call a piece of cloth to unite against an unjust ruler so you can sit at home and watch whatever or go to church on Sundays

 @9G3CYS9Republican from Missouri  disagreed…3yrs3Y

It is not simply just a piece of cloth. It represents all of what this country has fought for throughout several decades. This flag represents freedom. . If one were to burn this flag, it would be the largest form of disrespect and brutality towards our country. Men and women fight and have fought for centuries for us to be able to live a free life. It is a symbol of our democracy, our freedom, and our patriotism.

 @9G9XX2L from Texas  disagreed…3yrs3Y

It is not just a piece of cloth it's a piece of cloth me serve and fight for. We have always fought for it and it means everything to us. It's not just a flag it's a symbol of who we are.

 @9FX32YK from Indiana  disagreed…3yrs3Y

Why would you burn the thing that so many young men and women fought to protect how many lives where lost so you can live in peace.

 @9G3TTR2 from New York  disagreed…3yrs3Y

The men who fought for this country have sacrificed so much just for a single person who does not care all too much to just throw away what they gave us. The freedom, the power, the joy, etc.

 @9GFNXS2 from North Dakota  disagreed…3yrs3Y

I think it is rude. Because the people that fought for our country are honored by the flag and burning it is just really disrespectful to everyone that served and our country.

 @9GKF5VYRepublican from Tennessee  disagreed…3yrs3Y

The flag is a symbol of our country, that I am proud to be apart of. They are basically spitting on those who have fought for our country.

 @B9C88KF from Ohio  disagreed…6mos6MO

Flag burning is disgusting, you live in a country that your supposed to love. It should be a crime because it opposes any type of nationalism and patriotism whether your republican or democratic. another question is why is it illegal to burn an israeli flags but not American?

 @B8WRKT4Democrat from Massachusetts  disagreed…7mos7MO

It is disrespectful to those who fought for our country and are currently fighting for it now to burn the flag

 @9GQPTKW from Virginia  disagreed…3yrs3Y

It represents every single person who lay dead or wounded fighting for this country and keeping us safe. It is NOT just a piece of cloth.

 @BCZ8WWLRepublican from Arkansas  disagreed…2mos2MO

The United States flag represents more than the president of our country. The flag represents the men and women who fought and died for our freedom. It stands as a symbol of said freedom and of all the hard workers that build this country. It needs to be respected because of what it stands as a symbol for. Burning it shows other countries that the US citizens have no respect for our country.

 @B9GWVDTWomen’s Equality  from Florida  disagreed…5mos5MO

Burning the flag is more than destroying cloth. It’s attacking the symbol of a nation and its values.

 @B8M9VT7  from Colorado  disagreed…7mos7MO

its a piece of cloth and represents our country and freedom, if it truly is just a piece of cloth then maybe you should considering moving to a country who also thinks the same way.

 @9GSZF4Z from Pennsylvania  disagreed…3yrs3Y

It stands for much more noble things than just the country itself, such as its beginnings and those who have died to protected the country, and burning it is disrespectful to them.

 @9GYQJ9S from Minnesota  disagreed…3yrs3Y

The flag represents our country, and if you want to burn it you should be deported from the country, I dont care if you were born here, or where you get sent to, but you shouldn't be allowed to be here anymore.

  @VulcanMan6  from Kansas  disagreed…3yrs3Y

So you are against freedom of speech and freedom of protest? Sounds like you are the unAmerican one here...

 @9GBMNRGdisagreed…3yrs3Y

A flag is not just a simple flag, is a symbol of a country's pride and how it was created, how we, the united states, gained independence from britain, The flag is a symbol of freedom and bravery

 @9G43LXM from California  disagreed…3yrs3Y

It is the american flag. People fought for this country for years so we have what he have now. They created that flag as a symbol. if you dont like this country enough to burn the flag than why are you here. that is disrepectful.

 @9GCY2G5disagreed…3yrs3Y

It is just not a piece of cloth. That flag represents all of the men and woman who have served this country.

 @9GZQ465 from New York  disagreed…3yrs3Y

It symbolizes the freedom that we work to maintain and that the military fights to protect every day. If they truly believe it's just a piece of cloth, they shouldn't mind people burning pride flags and black lives matter flags.

  @VulcanMan6  from Kansas  commented…3yrs3Y

You are free to burn those too I guess, but you're probably still just homophobic/racist anyway, which is bad.

 @9FCTPHD from California  disagreed…3yrs3Y

The Flag represents freedom to the world and if you don't respect that then you don't know what it means to be an American.

  @9CJ6CB6 from Virginia  commented…3yrs3Y

To many it’s a symbol of colonialism, and America has long soiled its reputation in front of the world. America stands for its own freedom in the majority of conflicts, while it does often side with the right side, we have a long history of messing with other nations for our own gain.

 @9G7ZJDS from Michigan  disagreed…3yrs3Y

Many people have served our country and the flag is a symbol of respect to our country and our military so It deserves respect.

 @9G2N2LBdisagreed…3yrs3Y

 @BCQTYQK from Michigan  disagreed…3mos3MO

That piece of cloth has a 250 yr long history, that symbolizes giving people freedom of speech. By burning that flag, you are burning that very freedom.

People should not be able to burn the flag, and it should be illegal, because millions of people have fought and died for our country to give us peace, freedom, and happiness.

 @BC64QNZDemocrat from New York  disagreed…3mos3MO

people should not burn the American flag because there is people that died defending the flag, so people should have some respect

 @BBVPPW2 from Michigan  disagreed…4mos4MO

Even though a flag is a piece of cloth, it represents the country, its people, and the sacrifices made for freedom. For many people, the flag symbolizes national unity, history, and the lives of soldiers who fought for the nation. Because of that meaning, burning it can be seen as disrespectful to those values and sacrifices, not just destroying a simple object.

 @BBPBD2BRepublican from California  disagreed…4mos4MO

i believe that it is more than a piece of cloth. millions and millions of veterans in our nation have fought and risked or lost their lives fighting for this country in order to us to have the freedoms and rights that we have.

 @BBDVX34Independent from Colorado  disagreed…4mos4MO

It’s a simple act of respect and unity for us all to come together underneath the flag. A rejection or burning of the flag should be seen as anti American. This should not be left vs right but our last shred of unity.

 @BBDHBKT from Indiana  disagreed…4mos4MO

I think that flag burning is a disgrace to our nation and what it stands for. Many people have given their lives so we can fly that flag freely and proudly across our country. It stands for a nation of liberty, freedom, and independence. If it's just a piece of cloth and doesn't mean anything to you, go to another country that doesn't have these freedoms and see just how much it represents. Even if you still have this view, then why burn it? If you don't believe in these values then just let the flag be. It obviously isn't just a piece of cloth if you take the time and effort to burn it. I think that this should be a federal offense.

 @BBCFD99Republican from South Carolina  disagreed…4mos4MO

The flag is part of the American symbol. It stands for freedom and liberty. People have no right to burn it, no matter what the First Amendment saids

 @BB7KHHQ from Pennsylvania  disagreed…4mos4MO

The flag shows our country's pride, putting it on a pole, putting it to be seen is respect and pride for our country. Burning is a sign of disrespect.

 @BB2XSS8 from New York  disagreed…5mos5MO

The American Flag does not represent all of the hate or animosity within America, the flag represents everything wonderful in America and the gives meaning to the sacrifices of every person that spent time, blood, sweat, and tears to protect our country. Burning the flag doesn't mean what you think it means, it is a direct disrespect to everything that makes America Great.

 @B9YH5ND from Illinois  disagreed…5mos5MO

I find that the flag represents those who have fought and died for our country and I think its disrespectful for people to burn something that others quite literally died for.

 @B9WKDGS from Illinois  disagreed…5mos5MO

The American flag represents its peace and power throughout the world so burning would mean that you are stepping on it or disrespecting it.

 @B9W3978 from Ohio  disagreed…5mos5MO

i believe that its not just a piece of cloth that it represents what we fought for and it represents us

 @B9TBPSNRepublican from Oklahoma  disagreed…5mos5MO

So if its just a piece of cloth why not burn your clothes instead. I mean unless they represent something.
Just because your mad at the government doesn't mean you have to burn the country's flag and with the U.S.A being a free country you could just leave.

 @B9SB4YXRepublican from Kansas  disagreed…5mos5MO

We stand for the Pledge. We respect our country. If you don't respect our country, go somewhere else. The flag is a symbol of our nation. Why would we destroy our symbol of hope?

It should be illegal to burn our national flag, as it is a national symbol of the country. It is disrespectful to burn the flag, but if it touches the ground, it could be burned.

 @B9N2X8V from Indiana  disagreed…5mos5MO

I would say that the piece of cloth is what we stand for and represents are freedom so there is no place for it to be burned.

 @B9MCRLGNo Labels from Missouri  disagreed…5mos5MO

 @B929XB6 from Michigan  disagreed…6mos6MO

Well it's not just a piece of cloth. It's the symbol of the American people that have gone through change just as the flag did. The flag was first made with only the 13 stars for each colony. This evolved into the 50 states with each change. Still the colonies are represented in the stripes, this would show that we are stull learning from the past. Burning the flag would essentially be declaring yourself as abandoning the country and what it means to be American.

 @B8ZY47Z from Iowa  disagreed…6mos6MO

The flag represents our freedom and independence. if youre truly that disrespectful to go around and burn the flag, go live somewhere else that isn't in the US. Many soldiers sacrificed and died for you to have freedom; don't be greedy and take it for granted.

 @B8ZDSKT from Pennsylvania  disagreed…6mos6MO

The flag is the symbol of what our country is built on and how far we've come as a nation so it should be treated with the upmost respect at all times.

 @B8ZDQSRRepublican from Utah  disagreed…6mos6MO

That flag represents this country and the people that died for our freedom and it is important that we respect this country of freedom.

 @B8XXZ22 from Washington  disagreed…7mos7MO

It should be illegal to burn our national flag. That is a part of America's representation of freedom.

 @B8SPNFM from Texas  disagreed…7mos7MO

It is disrespectful to us if you burn the American or Texas flag people risked their lives getting those flags, so if you burn it we will be mad.

 @B8SB3SX from Indiana  disagreed…7mos7MO

It is a symbol of our country, and burning is an extreme sign and showing of disrespect. Burning the flag can be tied to terrorism and anti-American protests, like in Iran.

 @B8R37L8Republican from Washington  disagreed…7mos7MO

The purpose of the flag is the reason why you can do whatever you want. That flag represents our freedom. So for you to say that it doesn't represent what it should you are completely wrong.

 @B8K3N22 from Virginia  disagreed…7mos7MO

To me it's no different than killing the national bird (balled eagle). It's a documented representation of our country.

 @B8JWN3V from Minnesota  disagreed…7mos7MO

It’s not just a piece of cloth, it’s represents America, and what we stand for. It’s out flag, just like our every other country has a flag, so if you think burning the American flag is ok, do you think burning the France flag is also ok, like what’s the difference. It’s not ok to burn, our country’s flags, or any country’s flag for that matter.

 @B8HK356 from Kentucky  disagreed…7mos7MO

The flag of the United States of America may be seen as just a piece of cloth, but it has a long history that supports why it is chosen for its purpose.

 @B8DJWC3 from Indiana  disagreed…8mos8MO

I think that if you burn the flag of the United States you should be criminally convicted and heavily financially burdened. Possibly deported and citizenship revoked.

 @B87Q4SN from Kansas  disagreed…8mos8MO

 @B82JL9T from California  disagreed…8mos8MO

It's not just "a piece of cloth," it's a symbol of freedom, and burning the flag is not just insulting but also disrespectful. The flag should be respected, and it should be illegal to burn it becuse that is a form of hate speech and a threat to our country.

 @B82CM8D from North Carolina  disagreed…8mos8MO

My best counter argument to the "No, it's just a piece of cloth that doesn't represent what it should" position on Flag Burning should be illegal because it is very disrespectful.

 @B7YWXSGDemocrat from Texas  disagreed…8mos8MO

An successful argument of the claim that "a flag is just a piece of cloth" acknowledges the history of flag protection, tackles the idea of symbolism, and shifts the discussion back to the values of free speech.

 @B7XYM2T from Massachusetts  disagreed…8mos8MO

That flag is the back bone of our country. Burning the flag should be a large prison sentence with no reasoning to get out early. Our flag represents our freedom and our rights and burning the flag will never be okay.

 @B7W3CNT from Louisiana  disagreed…8mos8MO

You should not be able to burn the flag because it’s the country you live in and also if you’re willing to do that and hate this country then leave
